I went to a a new stylist and she was doing a weave on me. She washed and conditioned my hair and said there were ADDED ingredients to the conditioner. when she blowdried my ends were horrid and she braided it up. A week later she took it out because I didn't like it and she gave me another wash and condition and gave me a silk press. (up to 4 total to make up for the original price)

Now, this next time she blowdried my hair was silky and and whispy. (complete opposite before the washes) After she flat ironed my hair was VERY silky and straight....to straight. My hair is very thick and it shows straight or curly. Its thin like i got a fresh relaxer. I'm scared once i wash it my curls are done for. Do you think she added a little relaxer to the conditioner? can you even do that? :perplexed:perplexed:nono:

Call her and ask her.

Tell her you loved the results and want to add the added ingredients to you home conditioners.

that wont work. she said her and her mom on working on a new line of hair products so i doubt she'd tell me the ingrediants, but ill ask anyway just in case

you have every right to know what chemicals she put in your hair since you notice a texture. What if you had an allergic reaction to one of her added ingredients?

And in the future don't be people's test case. Without knowing what is being put in your hair and on your skin.

It does sound like a bkt . Hopefully you don't have heat damage because I have heard cases where people's hair was permanently damaged by that, it was just too much heat on their hair. Do you know what temp she used? What is your hair type? I hate that stylist see highly textured hair and automatically put it on 450. I just did a client's hair yesterday that was type 4b and I only used 395°. She was so shocked her hair was straight with that temp and just 2 passes. Some parts 3 passes was needed.

Also if she isn't answering your texts, she sure as hell won't answer your calls or say she is busy to avoid answering your concern about her ingredients. I would go up there and talk to her personally in a very calm state so not to have screaming match and you not get a direct answer. If she put in a chemical and didn't make your aware of that, that sounds like a lawsuit. Just explain your hair feels a lot smoother than normal and although it feels nice, you love your natural curls and hope it will return when you wash your hair. Or just simply wet a small section or wash your hair and see what happens and go up there if your curls don't return. Even with heat damage you will see some form of curl. If it's straight, you know it was some sodium hydroxide in there!

Who referred you to her? Call don't text. She needs to answer to you or the appropriate state licensing board.

no one did. i saw her hair in the club and asked who did her hair and she said she did and said it was a silk press. her friends hair looked nice too but hers was a weave and she did that also so i got her # and instagram

That's really shady, I wouldn't go to her again. If I ask you what you put on MY body and you act like it's a secret...

She should have told you up front what she was putting on your hair. If she just added some simple average ingredient to it, she should have no problems saying that. I hope everything works out for you OP.

My stylist put a chi keratin mask on my hair (I'm natural) and it came out very similar to what you've described. I haven't washed it out yet, but I was also worried about a possible curl pattern loss. She said the mask was part of the chi straightening system, but she uses the mask on its own to help natural hair stay straight longer.

Were you the poster that got a weave that everyone laughed and pointed at and you felt humiliated ? Now this stylist does a horrible sew in that you had to take down in a week, and to add insults she may have snuck in ingredients to harm your hair??? Your luck with stylist is mind blowing

Great Suggestion LovelyLouboutin Lilmama1011 since you're in cosmetology school, do you know what can be added to conditioners to make the hair silky?
I went to school and you don't add anything unless it is called for, meaning it is part of that product's conditioning process. Mizani used to have a custom made conditioning treatment system. Yeah I don't know what home girl did, but you need to find out. I hate confrontations!

Hi there---this honestly sounds like a BKT. I've had one for years and my hair is silky beyond my wildest dreams when flat ironed after wash and press...but I have ABSOLUTELY NO curl pattern because of it. A keratin treatment can be added to a conditioner or it can be disguised as a protein treatment. It's easy...and sneaky stylists do it to avoid dealing with our hair in it's natural state.

Now having said all of the above, I've had over 4 BKTs done...which would explain my complete lack of a curl pattern .... but that's just me. I noticed the alteration to my curl patter after the first treatment.

Bottom Line: You have a right to know what "added" ingredients she used. It's your hair...

Big Hair, Don't Care
She snuck some bkt in that conditioner. I am almost positive.

What you described is the bulk being removed from your hair due to less volume. That means the hair is straighter than usual. Then, the shady behavior on the part of the stylist leads me to believe that it isn't a simple case of using a really high temp on the flat iron. Stuff like that doesn't happen by accident and you shouldn't let her gaslight you.

I am staying tuned to see what she has to say for herself. Also if she uses her supposed upcoming product line as an excuse to hide from you what she put in your hair, know that that is a lie. If she was going to patent her conditioner, her formulated conditioner is what she would be using. Not some conditioner off the shelf that is made by someone else which she adds stuff to. Her story doesn't make sense.

Everyone is saying you should ask her what she put into your hair but if you do, you are liable to get a cussing out. Just don't go back to her and make it a lesson learned.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to disagree with this statement. You honestly need to know what she did to your hair. If she did put BKT in that conditioner your regimen for how you take care of your hair will be completely different.
(I.e, using absolutely no sulfates and steering clear of silicones etc).

Wouldn't be me.....

This is why I stopped going to salons.

OP,
I'd definitely try to find out what she did to your hair.
However, you should REALLY learn to take care of your own hair. Two bad experiences in a row is crazy.
