Review: Mercy Hair Extensions (3b/3c) - Proceed With Caution

Hi Ladies,

I've had this hair (two bundles: 1 -18" and 1 -20" installed for about a month (perimeter left out) and it has been quiet a ride.

I purchased the hair in Jan of this year, I was suppose to install it for a vacation but waited. When I received the hair I cowashed it and put a dark brown rinse on it. I didn't observe any real shedding. Before I installed it last month I cowashed it again (shea moisture conditioner).

The pros: The hair matches my natural texture beautifully. The curl are gorgeous. The hair is true to length. The bundles are full.

The cons: The shedding, the tangling, and the matting. I cowash at least once a week, it is usually twice. I detangle every two days. The amount of hair loss and matting is disturbing. This is my first weave with curly hair. My hairdresser set my expectations with the shedding but even she said this was a bit much. The hair literally locs up and not just in the back. This hair has matted all over. I use a detangler (kinky curly knot today). I used the conditioner recommended (Tresseme moisture). Neither of these really worked.
----------------------------------------------------------------

I sent the owner Mercy an email last week. I sent pictures of the hair loss. I asked for help in managing the hair. She suggested silicon mix and a paddle brush for the tangling. She said she has had the hair for a months and hasn't experienced the amount of shedding and matting I have described (sideEye).

She offered free shipping on my next purchase. I bought another two bundles because I already have this hair installed and I need to get through this summer. Free shipping didn't include express, so she split the cost with me.

I posted a review on her site stating the issues I had with the hair. It has been deleted. I did my research before buying this hair. I watched youtube, read blogs, searched LHCF, IG etc... It seemed as if everyone has a good experience. Maybe I got a bad batch, who knows. I'm hoping that I can last another four weeks with this hair but at the rate of hair shedding and matting I don't think so.

I love the idea of purchasing my hair from a Black Woman owned business but my experience has made me gun shy and my last purchase was my actual last.

I suggest you proceed with caution and expect to spend a good amount of time on your hair if you purchase this...

Oh wow I'm sorry you got bad batches. That's one thing I hate is wasting money :(
I did have a good experience with this hair and there was a lot of shedding as well but nothing like what you got. I wouldn't buy this hair again either I don't think based on the shedding alone. I didn't get matting or tangling though.

I had this same hair intealled to back to back installs. The first 12 weeks went great, however ther was massive matting and sheeding the next go round I had planned to use this hair for a year as it seems good quality but after the second round of sheding I seconf no thanks.

I would suggest op to cut down the cowashing and I did used a deman with a thick leave in and gel. i kept washing to a mimimum as this seems to make ther shedding worse.

I didn't seal the wefts. The wefts at the top were cut but everything sheds. I have worn weaves for 2 years and never sealed a weft.

I had this hair as well. i had a wig made out of it. Pain in the butt. looked great, but the matting and shedding was unreal. I was soo happy i decided to make a wig out of it instead of having it sewn-in. I would co-wash it once a week, detangle, and then shingle with KCCC gel. used it for 3 mo (summer) then bought something else. Im sorry you had a similar experience op, its great looking hair but isn't worth the hassle in the end.

Hey chica,

What other hair did you get? Was it kinky curly?

I have the same question. Did you buy the mongolian kinky curly line? I have this hair in now and for the most part, I really like it. I made mine into a u-part wig that I clip in and out nightly so I don't experience the extreme matting that you do but I do get tangling. If I were at home this summer, I probably would wash and detangle the hair more frequently than my current rate of once a week but I just don't have the time and besides, I like the way it looks 3-4 days after washing it.

It was a pain in the butt to sew the track to the cap but I thought that was to keep it from shedding.

I ended up just getting virgin/raw or whatever they call it indian hair extensions. its worked well for me in the past the only issue is flat-ironing my leave out.

Yes, it was the mongolian kinky curly, specifically 3b/3c from mercys extensions . I was on a heat-free kick last summer and thought this would be great because the texture matched my natural curls, I could hide my hair and I could seamlessly blend my leave-out. Winner, winner, chicken dinner, right? nope. I just wasn't cut out for the work. My natural hair doesn't give me as much trouble as that wig did. Lol. I apologize, i had a u-part wig made, that wasn't clear in my original post. Im glad its working out for you, though.

This is what makes me worried about dishing out so much money on expensive weaves. The worst thing is so many of the IG and YT reviews are sponsored. Of course you will like hair better if someone has given it to you free.

Not sure if I should take the risk or not..

I have been researching extensions for the last two days. So far I gather that I shouldnt bother with any hair promoted by youtube guru. They claim the hair is wonderful but when I read through the comments left on their pages... nothing but complaints. Im about ready to give up and just braid my hair cause I cant seem to find a reputable company to purchase quality hair/lace wig from

I've decided that I'm gonna ignore YT and try a well reviewed company on aliexpress. Less money, less risk. I'm okay with that.

The best straight hair I have bought is indique the relaxed bounce. I have hair I bought over 18 months ago. Still looks good, I wish they had a kinky hair that matched my texture.
