2016 Milestone Challenge...(not A Length Challenge. No Length Goals)

I like to have things to focus on during the year other than length. I like to use milestones as markers of progress on my hair journey to keep me motivated. I thought it would be nice to have a challenge to focus on other hair goals and achievements.

Examples of Milestones Could Be
**Complete a rollerset in 30 minutes
**Wear a low bun with just your own hair
**Style hair in a goddess braid on wet hair
**Extend dusting/trim to 90 days and still maintainhealthy ends.
**Develop a wash-n-go/rollerset/twist out regimen
**Regrow edges/nape, etc.
etc..

Instructions
When you list your goal also add your target timeframe (1st qtr 2016, 2nd qtr 2016, 3rd qtr 2016, 4th qtr 2016) or if you are trying to hit a particular month, note that. i.e. June, Oct, etc.
Example: Wear a low bun with just my own hair (3rd qtr 2016)

You can add goals throughout the year. You can join this thread at any time.

**NO LENGTH GOALS

Updates
We will have official updates the 1st week of April, July and October and the last week of December. Of course threads are better the more often you share your journey.

Official Challengers
This challenge does not allow length goals as appropriate milestones. So no SL, APL, BSL, etc. length goals. There are plenty of length challenges to join if your goal is to reach a certain length. Only challengers with valid milestones will be added to the challenger list.

You will be added to the challenger list after you add your first milestone with goal quarter.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST PICTURES WHEN YOU REACH A MILESTONE.

I'm in, my two goals for the challenge are the following:
  1. Go back to finger detangling with EVCO drenched fingers, before using the wide tooth comb. I need to rebuild the habit. I think I've lost density due to impatient detangling.
  2. Attempt a winter of protective styling.
  3. Do at least six (6) sets over 2016. I bought all of the roller setting stuff and I've only done three sets, two of which were curlformer sets. Roller setting is hard.
@faithVA , thx for this unique challange!

:yay: Thanks for joining me. Remember to add to each one the quarter when you want to complete each milestone. For example #1, you may want to have completed that by 1st qtr 2016, then you would update up the 1st week of April.

This is cute Faith.

I will be a straight haired natural for the 1st quarter. I am attempting to do this as a winter protective style. I will be wearing a low/high bun.

I will do a dusting/trim in the first quarter. Will attempt to find the hair cutting/trimming calendar to select the correct date.

I'm in. Is it ok to add goals to this post as I think of them? Here are the few I have so far:

2nd Quarter goals:
1. Incorporate a hard protein treatment in my regimen once a month.

2. Maintain styles for a week at a time and don't make wash day come early because I can't figure out how to do my hair. This includes straight hair. I have to especially figure out how to maintain an out style until wash day on flat ironed hair.

3rd Quarter goals:
1. Perfect a magnetic rollerset. So basically do it in 45 minutes tops and have it come out smooth.

2. Perfect flat iron routine. It's pretty good right now but I have to work on getting those ends smoother.

3. Stay on a regular trimming schedule. I'm aiming for every 3-4 months. I've never done this so I hope to make this a regular routine.

No first quarter goals for now because I plan to spend all of first quarter getting these things under control. And no 4th quarter goals yet because I want to meet the milestones by 3rd quarter and basically have them perfected by 4th quarter.

I'm in.

Goals:
1. Perfect halo twist using braiding hair (1st quarter)
2. Protective style at least 2 weeks a month (2nd quarter)
3. Do more roller sets and less wash and go's (3rd quarter)
4. Get middle section of hair to the same state of health as the rest of my hair (4th quarter)
5. Dust ends once per quarter
6. Attempt a new style at least once per quarter

I'm going to start with first quarter and 2nd quarter goals for now. I'm protective styling with wigs until my birthday (April) and my hair is braided in beehive braids.

1. Be CONSISTENT with oiling my scalp and moisturizing my hair under the wigs. I rarely moisturize due to laziness.

2. Finger detangle when I take my braids out. I did it one time and had little to no breakage but it took me over 4 hours so I never did it again. Definitely want to start this again.

3. Massage my edges with emu oil every night in an attempt to regrow them.

Overall Milestones:
Reduce SSKs/breakage.
Get my curlformer installation to 1 1/2 hours.

1st Quarter:
Master 1 new style/try a rod set. Will probably start with a flexirod set.
Figure out how to wear my full lace wig.

2nd Quarter:
Trim one inch all over. No more than that.
Master another new style. Probably a perm rod set.

3rd Quarter:
Try a rollerset. I like to rollerset before flat ironing so since I want to straighten my hair in the 4th quarter, I might as well spend the 3rd perfecting my rollerset.

4th Quarter:
Successfully straighten my own hair.

Adding a 1st quarter goal:

1. Get back to finishing my perm rod set in an hour. I've gotten so lazy and slow with this that it can sometimes take me up to 2 hours to set on perm roda. Unacceptable. I did one tonight and I managed to finish in exactly 1 hour and 1 minute but I felt like I was rushing. Have to work on this.

Rooted Yet Flowing
Saving my spot to update later. I've reached and surpassed my length goals so I need something else to focus on.

Update:

Q1:

1) Color with Shea Moisture jet black hair coloring system

2) Dust my ends

3) Wash every week. This one is going to be a challenge lol

Edited to update milestone goals

I'll update for Q2 depending how I make out with Q1.

So this perm rod set is on day 2. Friday is wash day but I think it's only going to hold up until tomorrow night. I don't think it'll hold until I get home Friday evening so I may just comb it out and wear a puff. Now, that's only 3 days. If it surprises me and lasts for Friday that's 4. I'm aiming for a full 7.
