During The Wash Process When Is The Best Time To Detangle?

I finger detangle while applying my DC. It is time consuming but I get minimal breakage and I feel like I get maximum product distribution this way (when finger detangling, I 'harp', so I am touching nearly every strand). I detangle again while rinsing out my DC under running water. Works for me!

If I'm shampooing, I shampoo first and then I apply my deep conditioner and finger detangle by harping like @AgeinATL.

I finger detangle thoroughly and then gently pull out all the shed hairs.

If cowashing I just detangle while I put the conditioner in, thoroughly detangling and then scrub my scalp and rinse.

While applying conditioner. I always finger detangle as I'm applying the conditioner section by section. It's been a while since I've just rubbed it all over my head lazily. Then as I'm rinsing I use my shower comb through my head just as a once over.

I finger detangle as the very first step, with oil and conditioner. If water hits my hair with a weeks worth of shed hair in my head, it's just going to worsen the tangles, so I have to make sure most of the shed hair is out before wetting my hair. After detangling as the first step I work in twisted sections to keep them detangled.

I deep condition in the shower and detangle while it's in. It's been working for me like that for years.

I'm a multi-step detangler:

- pre-wash, detangle oil or slippy conditioner coated hair with a wide tooth comb
- in-shower, sometimes I finger detangle during DC application if the DC is slippy enough
- in-shower, detangle with a medium tooth comb during DC rinse out & leave-in application
- post-shower, detangle/smooth with a 'finium' tooth comb (my last step comb is between fine and medium) just before I seal everything in

I detangle 3 times

1. I section and detangle dry hair with a light coat of an oil and a k cutter comb

2. I finger detangle in sections while applying my deep conditioner

3. I detangle damp hair with a Hercules-Sagemann Magic Lady Star Comb after rinsing my dc. The comb usually glides through, because I already detangled previously and I keep those sections detangled and stretched during the entire washing process

I pre-poo w/conditioner on dry hair. As my hair is moisturizing and getting soft, I begin detangling. I keep it detangled during the wash and styling process by working in sections.

I mist with water then apply conditioner with oil mixed in and detangle before washing. I also comb my dc through, then comb through again as I twist or braid. I don't comb again until the next wash a week or so later.

I apply my DC, let it sit for a bit, then detangle. My fav DC for moisture and detangling is the babassu DC from brown butter beauty.

I used to detangle in the shower but I feel that it wastes too much water. I'm usually doing a serious detangling session so it takes a few minutes.

Ms. Purple, Girl, I so wanted to love this DC'er because I know it's your ride-or-die, and you speak so highly of it, so of course I ended up getting multiple jars without thoroughly reading the ingredients list.

It felt very nice DC'ing/Steaming with. And I knew it would be a hit and I would be in love too.

Loved everything about it.

The consistency, performance, the way my Hair felt upon rinsing etc....but the Citrus Oil(s) tore up my Scalp something Fierce.:mwahahafire: .....:couchfire:

I had to end up swapping it with a couple of posters.

Now I'll read your post 'fondly' and think of what might have been.:2inlove:

So sad it didn't work for me.:cry3:

:( Sorry the citrus oils didn't agree with you girl. I forgot about them and looked up ingredients again.

You are right though, it is my ride or die :lachen:. It is the most consistent product in my stash. I think my hair loves BTMS as an ingredient based on its response to that conditioner and other products containing it.

Consistency, Performance etc....it had the makings of a beautiful relationship, but was not meant to be.:cry3:

Trust me, this was one time, I actually hated doing a Swap.:ohwell:

I was looking forward to adding this to my HG of DC'ers. And the start of a long lasting relationship.

I will just have to stand afar and wish longingly.:love3:

I used to detangling between shampooing and conditioning, using a cheap conditioner (aussie 3 minute miracle is great for it) but now I lightly detangle the bottom ends pre-shampoo, and finger detangle post-shampoo.

I detangle muktiple times during the wash day process. I've found that im terribly negligent of my crown while washing, so ive started spending a lot of time being thorough. I finger detangle with my shampoo on my strands (african black soap, solid shampoo bar) and massage til my fingers get tired. Then i finger detangle again while applying conditioner. Otherwise, i will miss spots

i used to do it after rinsing deep conditioner, but think I need to do it in sections when applying deep conditioner.....

I've always done it while the deep conditioner is in my hair. It's penetrating the strands while you're doing it.

I do it a couple of times. Once right before I rinse my prepoo out (I prepoo overnight). I also do it some when I have the deep conditioner in. Then I always do it when I am rinsing out my deep conditioner in the shower.

I detangle during the prepoo process. I slather a slippy conditioner on my hair, section it, and detangle it under the running water from the shower.
