How Often Do You Shampoo Your Hair?

Normally once a week but with a sew in, I will wash every 2 weeks. During the summer, I will co-wash occasionally then shampoo wash later on the week.

I cowash daily and use shampoo every 4 -6 weeks or whenever my hair asks. I don't use heavy products that require heavy suds. Most of my products rinse out with just water.

every weekend. If I'm lazy or depressed I go every 2 weeks.
There was a member on a Facebook group that asked this question and said she washes once every 3 or 5 months. I didn't say anything but others went IN.
And that's why people can't honestly share what they are doing at times. I've talked to people, especially fellow 4Cs, who have gone that long without washing their hair and it wasn't funky, or oily, and when they did wash it the water was clear- not dirty. It's really wierd how some people's hair and scalp are like Teflon and dirt just doesn't seem to stick to it.

I do a conditioning clay wash every 3 days and water rinse periodically between. I am basically doing Max Hydration so all my "products" (which is actually just flaxseed/okra gel, a little honey, a little agave nectar) are water-soluble so I just rinse them out with very warm water before I put on my bentonite mix.

Before using this method, washing this very high-density, super fine stranded, 4c hair was a very difficult process, with my needing to finger detangle on dry hair, strand by strand for hours, wash in plaits, etc, so I would go at least a month then, like MsTanish1 (Youtube) regimen a few years back.

I was losing way too much hair on wash days so now I am only shampooing once a month. I plan to cowash weekly or biweekly with protein, but I won't be redoing my celies every time.
I am back to weekly shampoos. The breakage was caused by lack of protein. I fixed it by clarifying with Suave shampoo and doing a Kerastase Therapiste protein mask. Now I just shampoo once a week with Cream of Nature Detangling poo and follow with a Kerastase mask. I alternate protein and moisture. I hope this helps someone going through the same issue :)

I know my hair likes to be left alone so I only shampoo one to two times per month, three only if I need to clarify. I do however cowash every week since I started exercising. No exercise, then that changes to once every 10 days.

If I'm actively using growth oils on my scalp, then it's back to cowashing the morning after each application. I can't stand the smell of sulfur based products in my hair all day even though I wear a wig just about everyday:nono:.

I sometimes miss poo'ing my hair 2x/week.

So... :look:, I wash with shampoo twice a week (when not ps'ing). It's a highly modified MHM. My hair looooves shampoo tho, so I give her what she wants. Instead of step 1, I use shampoo, dc, then clay. It works for me because my hair is so fine. Build up is a no-no.

Hi I'm Chrissy (✿◠‿◠)
I use dilated shampoo every week since I have braids under my sew in. I wanna make sure my scalp gets clean.

But once I take it out I'll be cowashing more and shampoo every other week or once a month.

@Prettymetty im glad your breakage stopped! After I gave myself a proper protein treatment my hair felt sooo much better and stronger before I had my sew in installed lol

And in the other hand, my strands are like static-y magnets that attract dust and lint. And going that long without a shampoo would leave me with acne.

When I'm not protective styling I shampoo twice a week regardless of the season. During the summer I cowash in between bi-weekly shampooing. My scalp gets itchy. I clarify once a month.

I would love to wash once weekly but how my hair is set up right now...that's not happening. I refuse to be dealing with these multiple textures weekly. Right now, I'm washing once every two weeks to once monthly. I shampoo almost every wash.

I shampoo every four days with Suave Sleek Shampoo or Suave Deep Moisture Shampoo. I water wash/rinse my hair daily in between shampoos. Four days without shampooing is really, pushing it, though, but I'm trying low manipulation with my ends so I can stretch my trims out to once a year. Otherwise, my hair and scalp need to be shampooed every three days exactly. Everyday or every other day is too drying. Longer than three days and my scalp and hair will get disgusting. My scalp gets oily/icky very fast and my hair is extremely low porosity which means products build up after just a day or two. After I flat iron and trim in May or June, I will probably go back to shampooing every three days with plain water washes in between.

:look: Every day.

Edited to add more details:

While some have reported it left their hair felling like straw, I have found the best detangler in the Roux Keratin shampoo. Conditioners have a habit of clumping my hair, which is not what I need when I'm trying to detangle.

I have fine hair that starts shrinking and tangling the second I get out from under the shower. Keeping tangles in check on a daily basis has helped with my retention and sanity (tangles on fine hair are no joke). Leaving it for two days or more is asking for trouble. And simply rinsing my hair with water alone creates the most stubborn tangles ever!

Because I head-off any issues before they start, it's only an additional 5 minutes to my showering routine, and I prefer that over a 45 minute production on Sundays. I skip the conditioner and go straight to my styling product, which I run over my dripping wet hair, shake, and go. My hair has never looked better.

I keep it simple and am glad my hair allows me to be that basic. Now all I need is length so I can cut it into an actual style and I'll be set!

I still wash my hair every week with either a sulfate or sulfate free shampoo.

Bent. Not Broken.
One shampoo per week with nioxin followed by sm manuka honey shampoo.

If its dry I will hit it with a cowash midweek.
still using nioxin 1x a week. phasing out the sm. doesn't seem to be adding value.

being busy I didn't wash for 2 weeks a couple times last year. each time my hair started falling out from the root. not in clumps but like mass shedding.

i tried 2x shampoo last week and my scalp felt great. might try that more consistently.

Once a week in fall/winter/ spring. In summer because I cowash it could be co-washing 2-3 times a week and shampoo every 7-10 days. I use EO essentials or Giovanni 50:50 as my staple poos. My cowashes of choice are Curl junkie or Hydroquench.
