According to Amazon, the ingredient list is this:

Water, Glycerin, Amodimethicone, Emulsifying Wax, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein/pvp Crosspolymer, Stearalkonium Chloride, Methylguceth-20, Hydroxypropyl Timonium Chloride, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Jojoba Oil, Safflower Oil, Primrose Oil, Wheat Amino Acid, Crosilk, Hydrolyzed Collagen (Marine), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Fd&c Red #40, Fd&c Yellow #5, Fragrance,

I don't know if that comma on the end means the list got cut off or what.
Terrible reading your experience, especially the hair loss you endured.

I rec'd mixed chicks samples once and gave them to a coworker. I'm not mixed, so their line is an immediate turn off. But looking at the ingredient list, even under a different name, I never would have tried this. Too many chemicals to look up, and I know my hair doesn't like a lot of chemicals anyway.

I love that your husband helped. Glad you got thru it.

ahhh thank you for this list. Anything hydrolyzed, is added protein. I'm betting that maybe you're protein sensitive. If not sensitive, for some reason I know products with added protein make my hair really, really hard after a while of having it on my hair. So sorry that happened to you:)

Oh honey I'm so sorry this happened to you but glad your hair is doing better now @mysblossom.

Surprisingly, black tea rinses did the very same thing to my hair and once I got it straightened (by mildly texlaxing it), I never tried them again.

Those parabens are definitely not good for you or your hair. And Red#40 and Yellow #5 are not good either. These are really bad ingredients.

I don't remember the details, but it had something to do with their love of being light skinned or mixed. Either way, the name of their company is off-putting and I've never had a desire to try them...no matter how deep a discount.

My hair was wet when applied.

But . . .

The leave-in itself needs ANOTHER leave-in beneath it?
Yes and no. If you are 3a or 3b,you most likely would not need another leave-in underneath. If you are a 3c, I would say yes you do need one.

The name is deceiving. It acts more like a styler than a leave-in.

Well, so many lessons I'm learning. It is my responsibility to not go by product name, description, stylist rec, etc., but by my own thorough research including strand/patch testing.

I didn't like it either. I used it one and my hair was like nope! Thankfully I was able to get my money back. It was really expensive too.

Ugh sorry that happened to you blossom

Same happened to me several times. Comparing products turns out my hair hates hydrolized wheat protein. Maybe yours doesn't like it either

As far as mixed chicks , I love their straightening serum. keeps my 4c natural hair from reverting for days. Rinse out condish was ok. Nothing to write home about. Glad I didn't try this dc. Id have been in the same boat as you again.

I was left standed at my cousins house and needed something to moisturise my hair. So I pinched some of hers. It felt like PVA glue. That school gloopy stuff that dries clear. It was about as moisturising too. and I'm blackety blackety black thank you v much. not really here for you're messy products and messy marketing.

It's got 2 gelling agents in it, PVP and Hydroxyethylcellulose. Maybe they caused the matting. A lot of protein doesn't help with slip either.

Okay, now I'm worried although it appears you're transitioning. Products worked differently for me at all stages, relaxed, transition, natural.

I took out my crochet braids this weekend and did a protein treatment and deep conditioned overnight. I have mixed chicks leave in on my hair right now, have had it in all day, in a bun. I am really hoping not to have a birds nest when I take my bun down. My 3c/4a hair hair loves protein.

I need to be in the office all day tomorrow, early meeting that goes all day. I do not have time to deal with hair drama at 6 am.

I'm kind of nervous now about even taking the bun down.

Transitioning? No . . . I'm fully natural.

Have you used the leave-in before? You said your hair loves protein, so hopefully you'll be good to go.

Also, you are 3c/4a. I am 4a/4b. It seems to be that Mixed Chicks works better for 3c hair.

I hope your hair turns out nicely!

I did this style that I recorded ages ago (bun is around 8 minute mark) but on wet hair since I had to run out.

Just took the bun down. No issues.
I never used it the mixed chicks before, only bought the 2 oz tube at Target when I still had in my extensions. I bought the shampoo and deep conditioner as well, all 2 oz.
I will bun it again in the morning presuming no issues overnight in my ponytail.

Emulsifying wax as the 3rd ingredient would have turned me off.
