Naturals Do You Ever Miss Your Relaxed Hair?

I used to when I first went natural, but not anymore. I'm hair lazy, so once I figured my hair out and it cost about the same as getting relaxers (I use nicer shampoos and conditioners) and it takes less time to do, relaxer left my vocabulary. Re-what?

I have days when I do and days when I don't. Yesterday was a day when I missed having relaxed hair. DH and I went out yesterday and all that time spent blow drying and flat ironing was gone in 10 seconds once it started to rain. :cry3:

Previous posts have echoed my sentiment. I'm 4c with fine hair and since I promised DH I would stop cutting it and let it grow it has been such a challenge!
I like my fro once every blue moon but I prefer it stretched or straight to be honest. DH hated the fro, oh well.

Another thing that pisses me off is that I feel like I have to jump through hoops just to get it to hold a curl when I straighten it and it still falls flat!
I'm so fed up at this point for real! I think I'm either going to get serious about heat training or relax it again cause UGH!!!

I would love to BKT but there's no where here to have it done and I haven't found anything I can use at home. :( Sorry for ranting but I'm just so fed up with my hair. It's not fun anymore and I'm starting to dread dealing with it. :(

Who hasn't missed straight, lengthy hair but let us not confuse that with a relaxer! I got zero desire to be a slave to that maintenance again.

I've yet to see my natural hair straight so I may look into that sometime this year or next. I just know it'll be a long process so not looking forward to it, but my curiosity is kinda peeking.

I spent the last two + years of my relaxed life twisting my hair in flat twists and rolling my ends on straws or Bantu knotting my hair because I needed the volume and messy curls and waves. That all ended when I BC-ed a couple of years ago. There have been moments when I wished it looked better when I styled it or wished caring for it was easier. Mostly, I wished that I had never been relaxed and had learned earlier in life that my natural texture was beautiful and how to care for it. Nope, I don't think I'll ever relax again. I've come too far.

I don't miss having a perm at all. I've realized that my hair does 1000 times better without one.

Just today I washed and conditioned my hair on vacation in like 20 minutes. No way I could do that with a perm.

I don't worry about rain either. I, personally, don't miss it.AT.ALL.

No, I don't. My hair isn't long or thick however I love my natural hair. I just had to learn what's best for my hair and experiment with styling. If I crave or want a straight style or even big, kinky, curly coily hair, I wear one of my lace fronts.

A year ago, my hairstylist used a curling iron on my natural blow dried hair and I vowed never again. I could almost hear my curls screaming for help. I'll blow dry on occasion, but no direct heat or chemical straightening ever again.

As a transitioner that's almost natural, I miss straight hair from time to time but I don't miss relaxed hair. I did, however, miss it in the early phases of my transition when my hair was appearing dull and I was struggling to find products that worked. I'm so glad that phase is now behind me. I'm 2 years post relaxer and long term transitioning has been exhausting. I never want to do this again.

Congratulations on your long term transition. I only lasted 17 months I was so fed up by that last month. I would never want to do that again for anything. How much longer are you going to go?

@stephanie75miller, thank you much! I am fed up now and really want to end the transition. However, portions of my bang and crown won't let me be great. Those areas still have a good bit of relaxed hair left, even after removing about 5 inches a few months ago. I'm concerned with being style challenged so I will press on indefinitely until I have enough hair to do something with and be confident with.

Flat out NO, I do not; however, during those occasional wig/weave moments when I'm dealing with my leave out, I do walk down memory lane and remember how easy it used to be to blend my hair with my extensions.

Straight natural hair is so much better than straight relaxed hair! The reversion is the jacked up part!

I just miss the ease of it. I could put my hair in an updo in like 5 mins with a perm but my hair was always breaking at the sides and it never got that straight anyway. Styling my natural hair takes much more effort but I notice my hair isn't as dry as when I was relaxed. I can actually moisturize every other day now compared to everyday before.

Personally, I don' t. But, that is because I was never satisfied with my relaxed hair and had several bad experiences with relaxers and stylist. Now, I just do my hair myself and I don't have to visit a salon unless I want to.

I've had weak moments thinking "I know so much more now. I can take care of relaxed hair much better than I did". I also miss doing "easy" roller sets (vs rolling and then having to flat iron my rots)...but the thought of the chemicals sitting on my scalp snap me back to reality.

No, not really. I used to, but 10 years in I don't really think about it like that anymore. Even if I see a really nice style, I just give props and move on.

Rih had me thinking of doing a natural version of one of her signature styles, but that's it, though.

I only miss the easy wash days, but I can comfortably say that I probably won't ever relax my hair again. I've been natural for almost 5 years (I've done 3 big chops) and can't see myself going back to regular touch ups, scalp burns, and breakage.

I don't. When my hair was relaxed it was always limp and breaking. It was like you wake up one day and a chunk of your nape was gone. Since going natural no such problem. Not saying natural is easy. I am dealing with SSK's but I think I'm winning the battle.
