Greetings!

Is there a hair care skill or hair styling skill that you feel you need to improve in order to take your hair to the next level?

Please share the care or styling skill you are working to improve, how you will improve at it (practice, study an online tutorial, observe someone in person, receive instruction, etc.), and any thing else you'd like to add including photos, helpful videos, links, etc.

Please add updates as your skill level increases!

You may already belong to a CHALLENGE that incorporates improving the skill. Feel free to simply name the skill then add the link to the challenge's thread's address.

Readers, please feel free to share advice, tips, and videos.

For some reason, I haven't had too much success infusing moisture into my strands via deep conditioning.

I deep condition in all sorts of ways, but almost as soon as I rinse out the DC (whether with warm or cool water), my hair feels dry again.

I think to-date my most successful DC was with the Bekura Y.A.M. So far other DCs have helped me detangle but don't seem to have long-lasting effects (as in, once rinsed out, effects are gone!).

It may have something to do with the characteristics of my hair (very fine, quite dense, 4a, naturally highly porous).

To try to improve, I'm going to try the following:
1. Try the Bekura Y.A.M. again to see if results are replicated.
2. Try the Sitrinillah DC to see if it does my hair well like it does a lot of other folks' hair.
3. Try the DC that does my hair twin's hair very, very, very good: SM Fruit Fusion Coconut Weightless Masque.
4. Obtain a steamer and try steaming DCs into my hair with an actual steamer (instead of the DIY steamer way).
5. Search for and learn from science-y videos and blog posts about DC-ing.

I wish I was better at rollersetting my hair...

I recently learned how to blowdry my hair with the tension method. Eventually I want to be able to blow it out without needing a flatiron at all.

I also need to work on my braidouts

I want to some day be good at magnetic rollersets. The roller setting thread helped me a lot but I'm still not there. Maybe I'll try again when my hair gets longer.

I want to perfect my blow out. I got good enough at this where my hair didn't look like a stretched afro but a real blow out. I'd like to get my ends straighter. I'm going to practice but I am trying to use heat sparingly and the next time will be in December. I'll use a comb attachment then.

I want to learn to french braid. I've done it a few times when I was relaxed and I don't even know how. I can cornrow my hair and I guess that's fine but the french braids are pretty. I'm too lazy to even try to practice this. I basically wear my hair the same all the time now.

I need to practice how to cornrow neatly... I can cornrow for under my wigs, but beyond that I dont think they're presentable. I always watch a youtube video tutorial, but it's time i practice. I just bought a wig with straight hair so I'm going to make the time to practice.
Also I need to figure out how to get my ends to behave when I blow it out. Some ends come out uniform and others turn out frizzy.

I have so many learning curves-

I wanna try rollersetting my natural hair.
I want to learn how to do a twist out that comes out looking nice.
I also want to perfect my blowdry/flat iron. I can do it but it doesnt come out great

I would like to learn to self trim. I lost 10+ inches trimming, re-trimming, fixing and messing up. I did that it in 2012. My hair is still recovering. I won't be practicing on my own hair. I've already done that and made a mess. My hair went from tail bone length to bra strap.

Thus, learning to trim my own hair correctly and with confidence would be a wonderful skill to cultivate.

I just purchased something like this for my niece. I need to purchase one for myself and learn how to flat twist.

I need to improve my skills at roller setting and braid outs. I roller set my hair more during the winter so I plan to get a lot of practice in during that time. I also want to learn to do a braid out without ending up with tangled hair. I usually rotate between a bun and a french twist but I am ready for some different styles.

Speaking as someone who is actually pretty ok with this, this is not a skill you want to "use less time" with. On someone else yes. On yourself, no.

Its others I want to speed up on lol. I'm just ok on myself but I hardly do any fancy or intricate looking styling. I'd also like to make my flat twists on others tighter. If I could have them looking like @faithVA I'll be overjoyed.

Ok. It also depends on size of twist and texture of hair. I did my sisters hair before and it took more than an hour. I did them pretty small in Mohawk style with front flat twist. 4C Unstretched hair. It might make a difference if it's already stretched too.

If I could have MY twists look like @faithVA i would be overjoyed :2inlove:

I am usually slow worker when it comes to hair and could stand to speed up all round really. Thanks for putting the timing in to perspective.

If it's working, I wouldn't really push it. I take forever to cornrow and I don't care :look:
But I understand where you are coming from.

Thank you @AbsyBlvd. You can do it. It does take practice and some patience. But if I had your length I would have kinds of updos. :look: Or I would be lazy and have it in a flat twist bun

Try just doing something intricate in the front and put the back in a ponytail. That way you get to practice and it doesn't take all day.

When I saw my name twice I was confused  Thank you @Saludable84

I hope everyone that wants to gets better at flat twisting. Since I do them all the type I guess I don't appreciate it as a skill.

Shout out to @cutiepiebabygirl! Thanks for the link to this DC technique.

The blog author has my same complaint, and she says she found a remedy. I cannot WAIT to try it!!!

I want to improve the way I detangle, I always get frustrated mid way no matter how much I prepare myself. Those little rips and tears add up over a course of a year. And learning how to trim my own hair would mean my bail money can be used for better, natural hair products.

I need to improve on the speed of how long it takes for me to detangle, shampoo, and dc.
I want to learn how to flattwist, braid, and stretch my hair.
I love the idea of doing my own personal trims.
Oh and rollersets, flexirod sets, blowing out my hair,
The whole nine yards!!!
