@Mische Yes that's exactly how my hair feels, so smooth it's amazing :2inlove:! I'm convinced they test their products on high po hair because they work so well.. Sadly no I'm in nyc, I heard about those bottling parties, if I ever get the opportunity to however I would, it sounds like fun!

@YvetteWithJoy I've tried whipped pudding and it was pretty good the 1 or 2 times I used it. Sadly my face is sensitive to some ingredient in there so I stopped using it.
The snack pack sounds good. I pretty much own all of oyin hair products at this point except the shampoo which I probably wont ever buy. The only product I actually didn't love is honey hemp.. I might give it one more go because my hair wasnt in the best state(protein wise) when I used it.

Thanks, @kodochax.

Also, I have a DC that I have never used that supposedly will infuse protein. Here is the ingredient list:

Ingredients: Water, Botanical Infusion, BTMS, Persea gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Theobroma Cocao (Cocoa) Seed Butter - Unrefined, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Alkyl Esters, Glycerin, Mangifera Indica (Mango ) Seed Butter, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hydrolyzed Quinoa, Guar Conditioner, Squalane (Olive), Triticum Vulgare (Wheatgerm) Oil, Camellia sinensis (Green Tea), Panthenol, Paraben Free Preservative, Fragrance, HydroxyEthylcellulose, Trigonella Foenum Graecum (Fenugreek Seed ), Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot Extract), Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang) Oil

@YvetteWithJoy my preferred protein treatment is Henna so I couldn't say love. If you already have a coupon or pass to get it then why not, never hurts to try:yep:

@YvetteWithJoy what do you have on hand? Maybe you can use something from your stash... I haven't used either of the 2 products you mentioned

Good question!

I'm not at home and am not sure if all of these are protein DC's. I think the Sitrinillah and Bekura Y.A.M. are NOT protein-infusing treatments/DCs???

So off the top of my head, I have:

1. Henna (Napur . . . would mix with coconut milk)

2. Nutress packs from Sally's

3. TerraVeda Quinoa and Green Tea DC: link = https://terravedaorganix.com/products/quinoa-green-tea-deep-conditioner

4. Aubrey Organics GPB poo and conditioner

5. Giovanni Smooth as Silk deep conditioner

6. SM 10-in-1 Superfruit Masque

7. SM High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque

8. SM Coconut Fusion Weightless Masque (may not have protein???)

9. SM Manuka Masque (may not have protein???)

10. NaturelleGrow Coconut and Mango Deep Conditioner: link = https://www.etsy.com/listing/169831206/mango-coconut-water-deep-conditioning?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=coconut water deep conditioner&ref=sr_gallery_1

Okay, @Prettymetty. Good call. I'll try the TerraVeda Quinoa and Green Tea DC first, and then the Nutress if that doesn't seem to have much of an effect, and then the AO GPB as a last resort. I have too much product to be buying right now. I keep forgetting. SMH. Huge smile.

@YvetteWithJoy I haven't used either product. I feel like the Loreal conditioner I used before may have had some protein in it. I'll check.

ETA: It only has a small amount of wheat protein

Try the Nutress that's the only protein treatment you've got, the other things seem to be moisturizing with some protein which is good in between your treatments, but not for a treatment itself. Hold off on the Komaza only because you have a lot of product but if your Nutress goes well and you think your hair feels better with it, you can try a stronger treatment like Komaza.

@Beany:

What do you guys think? Should I use a pass and purchase the Komaza protein treatment product or just use a Sally's Nutress packet?

I want my hair properly protein-ated (protein-ized? protein infused?) for when my rave-reviewed moisturizing Souffle DC from (Annabelle's) PerfectBlends (Etsy.com) arrives.

I would go for the Komazacare protein tx. I am a natural, color treated and high porosity, and I love it. It's my medium strength protein tx. I also use aphogee 2 step, when I need a serious protein boost.

I'm partial to Komaza's protein! My curls popped with this treatment in.

Only had a small amount of Oyin's Shine & Define left. Called Ecodermis & Wolfberry and they had the 8oz in stock I paid full price+tax but this product is so worth it. Hopefully this will last me until black friday and I'll buy the 16oz straight from oyin.

Its always great to hear a product/technique worked for someone, but knowing someone with your exact hair type had success with something is especially helpful.

Please include which type 4 you are and your strand thickness with your posts so we can all find hair type twins in here:grin:

3c/4a, fine strands, low density

Here are some questions to get us started:

What are your staples/holy grails? Chagrin valley shampoo bars, myhoneychild's deep conditioners, either giovanni direct leave in or kinky curly knot today, hemp seed butter to seal

What gives you the best curl definition? I find I love the way conditioner only wash and goes look best. I get the best results with Tresemme flawless curls.

I wash and dc as regularly. Then I apply quite alot of tresemme conditioner to a 1-2 inch section. Rake and smooth until it feels soft and smooth. Finally smooth into one big clumped curl. I do that to all sections until I'm done. Let dry in clumped sections, and once dry seperate.

Whats your favorite

  • Gel: Wash and goes: Eco styler clear, braidouts: herbal essence totally twisted scrunching gel
  • moisturizer: I don't use moisturuzers. Moisturizing on wash day is enough for the week
  • DC: Myhoneychild coconut papaya hair paste, honey hair mask, or olive you dc
  • leave in: Giovanni direct leave in, or kinky curly knot today
  • Oils: My hair is not fond of oils
  • edge control: Don't need it
  • shampoo: Any of chagrin valley's shampoo bars but I particularly love the herb garden, and conditioning shampoo bars
  • co-wash: Any conditioner. Once again I don't co washes very often. It's too much manipulation to my fine strands
What have been your most effective length retention methods? Leaving it alone. Only combing when drenched in conditioner, Using protein as needed

Lets chat about products and techniques that have been working for us and share new discoveries![/QUOTE]

Nexxus Polymedic has become my new favorite protein conditioner! The price is great less than a dollar per ounce. It's a tad smelly but it's a gel like consistency so not messy at all. The amount of curl definition I get with this thing in is crazy. If it didn't smell I'd actually consider using it as a gel.

Is it better than Komaza?

Is it better than Komaza?
Won't call it better just yet, I need more time with it. It has however replaced Komaza for me atm as I used up my last bottle in August. Biggest difference between the two is Komaza has keratin & collagen where nexxus is collagen & elastin so it's definitely giving helping my elasticity. I need to experiment with more protein to replace the keratin side of Komaza. I'm hoping Neutral Protein filler can do that since I can also find this on the cheap side. I love Komaza but I use protein twice a week so it's way too much for my pockets.

Got my APB cleansers and picked up devacurl decadence no poo and conditioner from BB&B(coupons!). I tried the no poo + conditioner and so far I'm not impressed. My hair felt clean & not stripped but I couldn't detangle my hair with the no poo in. I added the conditioner & the same thing happened, rinsed it out and my hair only felt slightly better it wasn't dry but for $22 regular price I was expecting more.

With the APB whipped cleansing cream, my hair felt clean after but i couldn't finger detangle with it in, which doesn't work for my regimen. I still have to try the APB blue agave. I need my cleansing conditioner to have slip and this had very little. I gave up trying to finger detangle and moved on to my clay mask.

I'm going to give them another round eventually, if it turns out the same they'll find a new home.

As of now only Curl Junkie and Terrene Fusions have impressed me in terms of cleansing conditioners and they're the only ones I'm rebuying. I'm trying to hold off on rebuying much until black friday. I'm in try out mode.

I need to make a rebuy list.

My APB agave cowash came in, too. Can't wait to try it.

I "can't live" without the DecaCurl Decadence One Condition!!! It is not a detangler for me. (NaturelleGrow Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm Bark, and Cinnamon DC is). One Condition defines my curls root to tip and gives me uber moisture. I won't be without it. It's amazing how all of our heads respond so differently to various products!

I plan to trial Curl Junkie after the no buy. Man, I want to try the protein conditioner.

I love curl junkie, I still have to make my way through their all their products but the ones I've tried are amazing. Daily Fix & Smoothing conditioner are my favorite. I like repair me but it's expensive so it's more of a treat. Make sure you buy them on curlmart when they have their 20-25% off sales. Top that with their 15% coupon codes and CJ becomes a lot more affordable!

Nutress went well.
What did you do? How did your hair feel after?

@kodochax it sounds like my hair is similar to yours.

I just washed my hair tonight on the spur of the moment. Garnier still is doing me right :yep: im using my damage remedy free samples. Last time i used the conditioner and this time I used the butter conditioner...my hair feels super soft. Went back in the stash for some nourish and shine after i blow dried (even though i hate the smell) and Im in love. Im bout to go out and purchase my own.

Eta: Nourish and shine turned my hair into a poof ball when I woke up

Anyone hipo use henna before? If so how did it work out?
I'm hi po and use to use henna religiously. It thickened my hair really well. It didn't leave it dry the way some complain. I think that's because I shampooed it out instead of co washing. I would leave the henna in overnight and wash in the am. It's messy but worked well for me. The only downside I found to it(and the reason I don't use it now) is it changed my curl patturn. I never used it as a natural so I don't know if I would have that problem now but I'm too afraid to test it.

Prettymetty

Natural/4b/medium-coarse
My bkt is slowly starting to revert. My roots are starting to feel crinkly and coarse. The smoothness was nice while it lasted... I'll do another Uncurly treatment sometime next month.

I've been cowashing and using sulfate free shampoo, so maybe my hair is just resistant. I'm sure the next treatment will last longer.

What did you do? How did your hair feel after?

Hair was stronger, shiny, and defined when wet. I had increased shedding. I'm not worried because I feel like it might have been shed hair never removed.

I'm going to do it again a week after and see how my hair does. It's feeling good! It has made me want that Komaza even more, but I'd rather get the Nexxus if it's comparable, to avoid shipping fees.

Successfully achieved my first slicked pony in all my years being natural:trophy:

Followed the steps in this tut with a few tweaks in technique to make it work for me since my hair is much longer then hers, the key is to be super heavy handed with product from start to finish.

I think my hair really loves Cantu Leave in repair cream and I think eco olive oil is the only thing that can lay my 4c edges down, so far they've been laid for 4 days:woot:

The gym is taking up all my time this week and I haven't been on the forums. I haven't done my midweek co wash because I haven't had the time and my hair is great. I've been twisting nightly after/before gym with shine & define+ apb leave in or daily refresher. These items seem to be light enough that I can use it daily without feeling like my hair has a ton of build up and since I'm not rinsing my hair I'm not rinsing away the protein so I haven't used my keratin mist. I'm constantly experimenting with my hair. I'll see if I can make it until wash day without putting my hair in a puff. Haven't used a comb in about 2 weeks either. Might actually be able to go back to strictly finger detangling.

@janiebaby Nice to see someone like me! All my hair seems to do is suck up protein, I'm learning a lot as I go.

@YvetteWithJoy Good to hear I'm glad that it made your hair feel great! Our Hi Po hair deserves a good dose of protein. Only you can determine how often you need to use it so take baby steps but also don't be afraid to use it more often if you feel that you can.

I'm really loving nexxus and I can understand why you don't want to pay Komaza prices.

This is pretty much the same amount per ounce as the 16oz bottle. So if you have amazon prime/or you can get to free shipping it's a good deal. My local beauty supply runs around $25 a bottle so I find it best to pick it up online.
https://www.amazon.com/Nexxus-Polym...d=1475123426&sr=8-2&keywords=nexxus+polymedic

& when I get around to it I'm going to try Neutral Protein filler for my keratin. I have the product I just need time.

Hello all! I'm a 4a/b bra strap length natural. Fine strands and normal density. The current bane of my existence is constant ssks.

What are your staples/holy grails? Honestly I haven't really found anything that blows me away.
What gives you the best curl definition? Hard protein treatments
Whats your favorite

  • Gel- I dontvuse any
  • moisturizer- QB amla heavy cream, but I'm looking for something else because this makes my hair too poofy
  • DC- joico moisture recovery balm. My hair really loves this but it's so damn expensive. I only get two uses out of a tube
  • leave in- haventvfound one that I like
  • Oils- castor and olive oil. My hair hates coconut oil
  • edge control- never tried any
  • shampoo- Shea moisture honey manuka
  • co-wash- I don't cowash
What have been your most effective length retention methods?long term braids or twist, moisturize end nightly.
I'm currently in kinky twist so in the mean time I'm trying to do some research on a few products to overhaul and regimen. My main concerns are ssks and dryness.

Things my hair likes-
-Protein, protein, protein. But only in a chemical like form not eggs and Mayo and stuff.
-regular DCs
-low or no manipulation
-heavy oils and creams
-moisturize my ends nightly or every other day

Dislikes
-coconut oil
-diy mixes. Like diy DCs, conditioners, gel, etc. My hair is bougie.
-cantu products
