Having Anxiety About Cutting My Hair. Help?

I know hair is never that serious lol, but I'm planning a big-big hair cut and it'll be the shortest I'll ever cut it. (And I'm scared I'll be ugly lol).

Has anybody had the same issue or anything?

(My friends are sick of me talking about this lol.)

I thought you just shaved it, right?

I had the same issue. When I BC I wore wigs for about a month until was comfortable, Do what makes you feel comfortable. Transition is always difficult.

Awwwww, you'll be ok. I'm a notorious hair cutter. Between the ages of 13 and about 30 I'd shave my head at the drop of a hat. I remember in my senior year of college I purposely grew my hair out because I knew I'd be doing job interviews. I landed a great job and about a month in i shaved my head. My supervisor and coworkers were stunned. LOL! They talked about it for years.

Just go for it. You might be surprised and like it.

Why do you need to cut it? This only happened to me about 5 times that I can recall and my hair grew back pretty good every time. Once you do it, you'll be fine. I wore wigs to go through that awkward growing back stage.
Heat damage in the top, mostly.

Just found out the hair style that I saw is actually a wig. So I'll be on the lookout to find it to see if I'll actually like that style.

I'm team #NoShorterThanShoulderLength.

I've cut my hair a few times but growing from twa to SL is slow and painful. If I had to do it all over again I would leave it at SL and do protein and just clip the ends on a regular basis.

But if you love wigs and protective styles go for it.

I honestly never understood why people feel they have to cut heat damage. So the texture is a little different. Unless you wear W&Gs all the time, why does it matter? If you don't, then just comb is as usual (twists, buns, etc) until it grows out.

It's completely straight. (Leave out from my weaves) And I'm fully natural. So little curls and long straight pieces. I'm sick of it lol. And for some reason it seems like it hasn't grown out.

Have you tried any treatments like Olaplex or a regular regimen of protein for a few months? I have some heat damage but will be transitioning it out over time and trimming as I go. If you are anxious about cutting then don't do it. Olaplex really has helped a lot in the areas that have been damaged from excessive heat at a Dominican salon. Whether you big chop or transition, the real key will be patience. It will take time for your hair to recover or grow.

I transitioned for 2 years I had about 12-16 inches of new growth and 8+ of straight ends. It was the worst. I would try to do twists outs and braid outs to make a consistent curl pattern throughout my hair but I would always be frustrated because there was still a remarkable difference in texture. I had never had hair shorter than shoulder length before and I new a chop would put my hair at about SL when straight but CL/NL when curly which is the way I wore it most of the time. I have a BIG head so I thought CL/NL would not look good on me. Even my parents and boyfriend at the time told me I would look ugly (smh lol). But one day I went for it because I was just fed up. The relaxed ends were not only not looking right but they were just consuming so much extra product too. I finely choped off that extra hair and it was GLORIOUS. I looked really cute too, big head and all.

I haven't. But I'll check it out. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat. Heat damage as well and I do want to change it up. It will be the shortest I've ever cut my hair, while being natural. I keep talking about it but haven't done it yet. I finally just told everyone I'll surprise them. That way, it leaves it up to me when I'm going to cut it

Girl- even with gradually cutting off relaxers and heat damage I've had mini heart attacks with every trim and cut! I hate it! I always shed a tear even if its 1/8 of an inch of dead ends so I know how you feel!

But it will always grow back. Buy some vitamins and look forward to new hair! That makes me feel better.

I have heat damage on top too that I'm growing out- why are you cutting drastically instead of gradually?

I didn't shave but I cut it real low. Took a moment to get use to it but it turned out well because every now and then, when I look at my pictures, I like my hair and face best when my hair was a twa.:afro:

Maybe try out short wigs or sew in weaves before making the decision.

I guess we're on the same team.

@whosthatgurl If it's causing you this much anxiety, then don't cut it.

I won't. I found my sense again lol. I'll be trying out a couple of wigs over the weekend until my silk press. I found the wig I've been looking for and until I wash my hair from this sew in (don't judge me), I'll be wearing the wig. I'm not crazy about it. But my friends like it.
