Shampooing With Cornrow

My hair is in cornrows right now until my next appointment hair appointment (end of November). This is the first time I have shampooed my hair with cornrows and I have all types of concerns (like will my hat mat together, can the shampoo really clean my hair if it is in braids, etc.).

Anyone here do it? Can you share your experience and/or regiment.
My stylist told me to use a applicator bottle to apply the shampoo. I rinsed it out as much as possible and put in conditioner afterward and rinsed that out as well but the whole process feels weird. I moisturize twice a day with leave in conditioner, JBCO and Rose Camille creme. I also started using Wild Growth every 3 days on my scalp. I have low porosity hair so my hair never feels like it holds product/moisture for long.

Do not use a creme anything with braids!!! You get buildup that way. Use the applicator to apply diluted shampoo to your scalp. Massage as much as you can and rinse throughly. Use a liquid conditioner or braidspray daily.

When I had cornrows, I did just that and had no problems with removing my braids or any buildup.

So the only reason why I did that is because of LOC method. You can't LOC with braids?

if you've ever had a weave you know that you will end up with buildup that will soon just look dull and not pretty. Are you wearing the cornrows as a style or covering it up with a wig. If the latter, make sure that it dries properly to avoid bad smells before you cover it up. Use the firm sprayer on your shower head to wash out the conditioner. I would also advise letting the shampoo and suds sit on your head for like 20 minutes so that it can sink in and really break up the grease. GL

I would not unless you redo them more frequently to remove buildup. If you leave them for a long period of time, I would just heavily LOC (be heavy handed with product) while doing the braids but not once you have them in.

Also check to see if the products you use will create a lot of buildup. Stuff like shea butter, cones, etc. cause heavy buildup.

What is LOC?

Have your tried using Sea Breeze to clean your scalp? That's what I use to do when I had cornrolls.

Looks like you've received some great advice on here.

I'd just chime in a recommendation to not put any oil or product on your scalp, unless maybe you have a history of dry scalp. Since your hair is braided up your scalp is already nicely exposed at the parts and I've found that sebum tends to secrete a bit more than normally.
