22nd Century Natural Woman Line: Product Reviews, Tips, Techniques, Regimen . . .

She used to have a tutorial up that demonstrated how she makes her deep conditioner, but she's removed it. (I guess because she sells it now).

On an INTERESTING note, I was asking another vendor about it, and that vendor says that the DC's listed ingredients will not yield a deep conditioner. She pointed me to online resources for making my own deep conditioner.

Hmm.

@YvetteWithJoy how did you end up liking the products?

  1. The DC: Something is weird about it (per my above posts). I won't reuse or repurchase because now I'm leery, but that's not to say that others shouldn't: This whole line gets rave reviews for its effect on the hair. People who actually stick with a regimen with both the poo bar and the DC swear by it.

After my concerns over the DC's ingredients/consistency, I asked a vendor I really trust about the "okayness" of the ingredients in the poo bar. She said it looks fine.

  2. I loooooove the shampoo bar. I really can detangle with it (wow), and when it's in my hair, it elongates my hair and makes detangling and removing shed hairs easy, as far as those processes go. Adding additional water to the suds makes it more and more slippery, and I love being able to cleanse and detangle in the same step. I will purchase all 3 scents (I currently only have the sample half-bar which is unscented), and this will probably become my go-to "everyday cleanser." I'll probably eventually only have this poo bar, a chelator, and a cleansing co-wash in my stash for cleansers, and nothing else.

NOTE: I have never tried the Chagrin Valley shampoo bars. They seem to get amazing reviews as well, and they look amazing. If I find one that performs similarly, I will switch over to it due to 22nd CNW's shipping costs. They are high, to me.

  3. The twisting butter: Haven't used it yet (have been on vacation). I bought some essential oil so that I can try to scent it. It is unscented, I guess, but has a slightly tangy scent to my nose. (I have a RIDICULOUSLY sensitive nose, so feel free to take that with a grain of salt.). I'm going to use it starting in February for my twist outs. It's a new product of hers, so it can't really be said to have contributed to her amazing hair growth, I don't think. (Unless she's used it for years herself at home.)

Yeah that's why I said by looking at the ingredients it didn't seem like a DC...maybe a butter or cream moisturizer.

OP, I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering about her products as well.

I purchased the Detox Kit. It comes with half a bar of unscented shampoo, bentonite clay, and your preference of the regular or deep conditioner. (I chose the deep conditioner.) I also purchased the new twisting cream.

I won't trial these fully until February. I can see myself trying the soap, however, pretty soon.

So far I can say that shipping was fast. Also, customer service was responsive and courteous. All of my products came unscented, and the natural scent of the twisting cream and the conditioner is a little off-putting for me. I have a VERY strong sense of smell, though, so it may be fine. I contacted an Etsy seller to ask her about how I might scent the products with some essential oils. I will take a tablespoon of product and see what a drop of my essential oil of choice does with it.

The reviews I've seen in YouTube comments and at her online store have me excited to trial these, especially the shampoo bar. The product line's creator DEFINITELY knows how to care for and grow her hair and her children's hair. And the reported simplicity of her regimen is awesome!

I hope to return with a review near the middle or end of February, once I've been using the products for a good bit.

In the meanwhile, I'll check here and elsewhere for product usage tips and the like.

Take care!

@YvetteWithJoy thanks for starting this topic. I just found her on YT. As others mentioned, sometimes the delivery is difficult to watch/hear but I actually really like her vids- especially when she gets serious suddenly lol

Anywhooooooo, I do want to try the shampoo bar. Right now, the Devacurl Decadence cleanser and conditioner are making my hair happy. How does the shampoo bar compare to the Devacurl?

My pleasure, @MeaWea.

Comparing 22nd CNW products to DevaCurl Decadence products:
  1. CLEANSERS: I prefer the 22nd CNW shampoo bar to the DevaCurl Decadence no poo. This is because:

    (a) The poo bar SUDS. I like suds not just because I'm used to suds, but because suds help lift dirt/grime away.

    (b) I feel the 22nd CNW bar is more economical. I will get a LOT of uses out of just the half bar that came with the Detox kit. The DevaCurl no poo is expensive to me, and because it doesn't suds up I tend to be heavy handed with it to try to ensure my scalp and strands are getting cleansed.

    (c) My hair feels really healthy, soft, and internally hydrated after I use the 22nd CNW shampoo bar in a way I've never experienced with any other cleanser. I can't say it's unique to this shampoo bar (because the only OTHER shampoo bar I've every tried are a few of the Jakeala shampoo bars), and . . . it's hard for me to put into words just precisely what's different about my hair when I use it, but my hair is just BETTER after using it. I am really wondering what long term use of it might do for the health of my hair.

I do like the DevaCurl Decadence no poo. It smells good and keeps my hair moisturized as it cleanses. And to be fair, I never tried to detangle with the DevaCurl Decadence no poo. I am able to detangle with the 22nd CNW poo bar by running the bar on my ends (where my hair tangles), and gradually adding more and more water to create more and more slip.
CONDITIONERS:
I am a DevaCurl Decadence One Condition STAN. When I put it on my hair, my hair is so moisturized, and it is the ONLY product I've found so far that DEFINES my curls and leaves them defined after drying!

Even if the 22nd CNW DC was really a DC, I would probably not repurchase it. It took a LOT of product to cover my strands. It left my hair VERY, VERY oily. Maybe if I had washed out MORE of it (I washed out most of it but left in some as was recommended), it wouldn't have been so oily?!?? I dunno. But the facts that I can't get too many uses out of the jar and that a vendor says it's not really a DC are a deal breaker for me, ESPECIALLY given the cost of shipping 22nd CNW products.

I am unable to proofread (my apologies), so please excuse my errors. If you have any more questions, PLEASE feel free to ask. It's no bother!

Blessings, Mea!

Just bought all three scents of the shampoo bar and the mild deep conditioner (with protein added).

Looking forward to detoxing my hair and trying them.

According to her, the deep conditioner is not to be used every time you wash your hair. Especially if you have thin strands.

Update:

I just received my shipment from 22nd century natural hair.

I ordered:
1 Mild Conditioner
1 Lavendar scented soap bar
1 Citrus scented soap bar
1 Peppermint scented soap bar

The conditioner comes vacum sealed in a packed placed in an empty container.
Smart idea to avoid leakages.

I'm looking forward to doing my detox with clay then trying these products on my next wash day !

Did my hair tonight.

Did a detox (bentonite clay mix) on my dirty hair on an old Bantu knot out.

Washed out clay and it looked like this... defined but dry

Then I added the mild conditioner. It feels "rich". Helped me detangle easily. I'm gonna just sleep with it in overnight and rinse in AM. So far so good.

Update: Don't care for the conditioner. Too heavy. I still feel the shea butter when I touch my hair, even though I thoroughly rinsed it out. I like my hair airy and light.

Then again, maybe my hair needs something like this to quit breaking off and split ends. But idk.

I will finish the container and note any improvements, if any occur.

Luckily she said with her DC you shouldn't use it every wash. Maybe 1/2 a month.

***ETA: I might have left it in too long. But on her videos she suggest leaving it in overnight after a harsh detox because your hair will need it. Next time I'll leave in for 15/30 mins.***

I had a similar experience and assessment.

How did your conditioner smell? TIA.

I'm sorry for the intrusion, but I asked because this is the first time that I've seen anyone whose hair looks like mine. I was kinda dumbstruck for a minute.

It's ok. Lol

That's neat, I hate my texture tho
It looks heat damaged all the time to me, but it's not.

Curly Proverbs is my hair goal !!

Like fragranced Shea butter.
I want to use the shampoo bar next, will that add on to that oily feel?

I wonder do I need to clarify or something... it's too oily for me.

The one time I used the conditioner, I used shampoo bar BEFORE using the conditioner. So I'm not sure if using the bar AFTER the conditioner would increase the oily feeling.

My hair was oily for DAYS with the DC. I bet it really DOES help the hair grow. I just couldn't deal.

But now I'm in love with the shampoo bar.

I understand, I don't care for mine either. I kept scrolling through the pictures over and over saying, "That looks like my hair". I've been here for a while and I've never encountered anyone whose hair closely resembled mine. It took me by surprise.

I'm torn. I want hair growth, but I like looking cute too. And greasy ain't the look. Lol

Then again, I paid for this so I gotta use it smh. Guess I'll do short DCs with it. Using less product.
