Can Aloe Vera Juice/gel Make Your Hair Hard?

I'm using something with aloe in it and when it dries my hair is hard. I'm wondering if that is the culprit because the other things in the aren't new to my hair. I have low porosity hair. Does that make a difference?

If your hair doesn't like it, mine doesn't either lol. Should have asked you first ha!
It's a hit or miss thing. Like others said formulation matters. It also may matter which step. It works. Enter for me as a styler.

I use it in the Alikay naturals Creme Brulee and it works just fine. But I tried to create a moisturizer for my twist and it was a fail.

What products are you using?

Right now I'm using the burdock root cream for a moisturizer but as you know it's too greasy. Then I'm using the Alma hai shea hemp castor parfait with Ayurvedic herbs from Jaekela Naturals and that has aloe gel or juice. Im not sure which yet, but I'm waiting on her to email me back with the answer. I'm only using it on the ends because my hair doesn't like oils and butters. I'm trying super hard to stop the breakage. My hair grows super fast but I can't stop the breakage and I'm just finding out that putting butters on the ends is helping a lot. However with this parfait, while its not causing breakage it is feeling dry. I know it's the parfait too because the length of my hair that just has the burdock root is not dry at all.

I avoid AVJ like the plague. I will never use it straight or even diluted with water. My hair can take it in certain products, but it can't be too high up the ingredients list. It makes my hair very dry and it airdries crispy and ashy-looking. I hate that my hair has an aversion to AVJ because it is in a lot of natural hair products.

I used once pure aloe gel mixed with water and glycerin. Never again. My hair was hard and brittle and it took me a couple of clarification shampoos and deep conditions to get my hair back to normal.
Usually, when I use the glycerin mixture with just water, my hair seems happy and moisturize.

both make my hair hard. I tend to shy away from products with aloe vera high up. or try and avoid all together unless its in a DC.

Acts like protein for me.

Yes, aloe vera juice does get my hair feeling some kind of way but I think that is what it's suppose to do, IMO, it means the hair is hydrated.:afro:

I use to use this alcohol free gel that had aloe vera as the second ingredient (I think it was by Smooth N Shine) and yes, it made my curls hard and crunchy. Not as much as those awful alcohol laden gels, but still.

I used to occasionally wash my relaxed hair with fresh aloe and my hair loved it. Early in my natural hair journey, products with aloe high on the list tended to leave my hair frizzy. I tried the kimmaytube leave-in with shop bought aloe juice and my hair ended up dry and hard.

I recently started using fresh aloe on my hair again (before gel, or as the main ingredient in a DIY hair lotion) and I've had positive results- soft, moisturised hair. I just won't use aloe after I henna or use protein, as I notice my hair feels a little harder when I do that.

I think I'll try another product with aloe high on the ingredients list and if i have the same results I know it's the aloe. You ladies are a wealth of knowledge as usual xoxox

Well I've just started using lily of the desert aloe vera juice & what I made in a spray/spritz bottle was a weaker Kimmytube's leave in moisturiser solution (direct leave in, oil, aloe juice oh & rose water) it's really good so far... I've also read not to overdo the aloe as it will make hair dry if you use too much aloe.

Ps I have low porosity hair in certain places and haven't noticed any difference in that area.
