I don't understand what I did wrong.

I havent relaxed my hair since Sept. got a partial sew in late Dec.

and when I took it down i shedded (of course) and my hair got thinner!! Plus matted

My routine included washing with shampoo and conditioner about 2-3 times a week
and using an oil for my hair that has pretty much all natural ingredients.

I blow dried my hair under the net to get it dry and again had a lot of matting.

I notice this also when I take down braids and twist that i had for about a week.
What is this and will my hair restore its thickness over time.

1. Go do a hard protein then moisture, moisture, moisture.
2. in the future, don't wash your hair as much when weaved up, especially don't use the oil (can wear fragile strands down more under net)
3.Your hair will regain thickness but baby it for now.

Washing a lot always causes severe matting for me. Using too much product causes matting for me.

What ^^^ said and also take some hair vitamins or prenatals. My hair grew crazy think when I was pregnant and it was the vitamins. It all shed after I gave birth but the vitamins made it that way I know for sure.

The best thing you can do is allow your hair to grow out and 6-8 weeks. This will allow time for new growth and help you to get rid of the thin strands. No more braids, or sew ins. The pulling of the thread and wefts might have been too tight. You basically got split ends. I don't recommend protein treatments, unless your hair is experiencing some sort of moisture overload.
How did you care for your hair during your install?

What if I work out
I'll shorten it to two times a week ..

I'm sure it won't be as bad with braids bc those are braided straight down..

So why do they tell us to take care of our hair under the net... (using oil for scalp)

Working out never gave me any issues. As a matter of fact, I get weaves when I'm working out heavy so I can do my hair quickly. I have an itchy scalp and I push myself to a week at best with respect to washing and condition. The matting really is a problem when you keep a weave in for long term, like longer than 8 weeks. If you like frequent washes never go past 8 weeks.

You take care of your hair by spritzing moisture and using a dye bottle to wash and condition but you can't use heavy products because they will build up on the hair, cause excessive oiliness and ultimately weighing the strands. I use Alikay lemongrass to moisturize since its light and runs in easy. And wash with diluted shampoo and conditioner and my hair thrives.

I think wigs are a better choice imo versus sew ins. You can acces your real hair better. That's what my hair stylist said she said if you aren't careful with who installs weave it can make your hair worse
