Stylist Cuts 9 Inches Off A Youtuber's Waistlength Hair...

I just went through this dude's IG and I don't get it. There really and truly isn't anything spectacular about this work compared to what I've seen over the years. I don't know why all of these coily-haired divas are running to him. I've seen banging hair cuts and none of his work is, IMHO. How did this guy get a big following from coily-haired girls anyway?

Now sis... we already talked about this

....
Even when I was a child I thought it was weird how black people gush over alleged "down" white people. No shade but a lot of those women probably never even seen his work, they just know he's with a black girl so he gets a pass.

This shows that it's not really about the stylist's skin color

Girl, no shade, but ain't no way in hell I'm letting a non-black stylist touch my hair. I am a huge advocate of supporting black talent and businesses, and would rather my money go there than ride the bandwagon of some social media sensation.

Vincenzo dude is going around butchering heads for fame, and then have the nerve to tell her, oh, the next time we will be coloring. But when London bridge came tumbling down, he pulls the "It Ain't Me" card, blaming everyone and everything but himself in an attempt to seek sympathy. Off day and death threats my foot. I don't believe one bit he received any threats.

I see your point but I also see @YvetteWithJoy point as well. My first curly hair cut/trim went to a black business and they F.ed my hair up too:lachen:from then on out I went where I saw consistent results and great reviews.

I didn't read the entire thread before writing that post.

SMH... TBH, I'm not a fan of some of the DevaCuts... Even by other stylists. There are some that a very cute (shorter styles) but I noticed that as the hair gets longer (shoulder length and below) it looks awkward and meh.

Some of these girls could've went to a stylist in their 'hoods instead of jumping on this latest bandwagon.

Oh, there are black stylists that can and will jack your hair up. No doubt about it.

But c'mon, this faux kumbaya white kang is a joke. And when did people stop going to salons and checking out their work ahead of time or even seeing their work online. One look at his Insta feed and it was obvious that he's very limited.

I noticed that too. I like her but is that really any surprise?

+1.

And we will be the first to continue to support this man. I even see naptural85 is liking dude's post. Yo, I am so done.

no one is caping for him. Did you read my other replies in this thread? He's a POS.

Never said you did.

Just reiterating. :)

(I got a little passionate looking at his Insta and the comments and the black women who were caping for him)

I think in her instance she should have left well enough alone and continued to do her own hair. No hood stylist would be cutting my hair either.

Lol, darling, I meant 'hood as in your neighborhood, you know, the community where you live. Not hood as in "ghetto."

I got my natural hair cut into a cute style in '99. I let the same skilled and celebrated stylist who gave me my last relaxer and bomb ass bob years earlier do it. She wasn't a "natural" stylist (weren't many of those around back then) but she was skilled and got the idea.

I think in her instance she should have left well enough alone and continued to do her own hair. No hood stylist would be cutting my hair either.

I see your point lol.

And you're right. Everyone's neighborhood is different. I know good hair stylists who work at Hair Cuttery, Super Cuts and Fantastic Sams.

Yep, she should've just left.

My hood is the ghetto though:look::lachen:. And someone else's hood could be in a sea of white folks:abducted:...like I said in her instance she should have left well enough alone. She was doing a great job by herself.

I feel the same way about DevaCuts. They are cute on short and smedium length hair, but looks weird at longer lengths.

Until I reach my goal length, no one will trim my hair but me. Afterward, if I go to a professional at all, it will be my old stylist or someone who I've send a lot of their work and had a consultation.

ETA: I doubt I'll ever go to a pro

I feel the same way. My friend flew out here for an appointment that she waited 4 months to get for a deva cut. She had to wash her own hair and style it herself before her appointment, then they charged her 300 for the cut. She came out looking like she wasted 295 dollars.

Thanks for the posts, @Rastafarai and @BillsBackerz67.

Sorry for the length and ramble below: I cut and paste and now the order of topics is weird/repetitive, but I can't go back and edit. I have to meet a colleague.

I hate to post this, 'cause I might get flamed, but for me it's less about race with stylists and more about the stylist's training, background, reviews, and whether I have some video or personal views of them cutting hair.

My white stylist trains folks in natural hair care. It's her specialty. She's been doing it for years and years. I only went to her after researching extensively, watching her work, and interviewing her after getting stung about 6 times with black stylists. Some of those times made me cry. It didn't make me give up on black stylists, but it made me put skill first.

I try to keep my dollars in the black community, but something . . . just in my own opinion . . . is going on where stylists aren't up on natural hair care like they are on relaxed hair care.

And I only feel this way now after going natural and realizing that I've gone to about 7 salons where the stylist CLAIMED to be able to handle natural hair, and I've gotten damage or a bad cut or something else negative where I never even made a follow-up after the initial consultation from 5 out of 6 that were black stylists. That means that 1 out of 6 black stylist was good and 1 out of 1 white/Spanish stylist was good. I haven't seen more white/Spanish stylists for obvious reasons. But . . . that's when I stopped caring about race and went deep on researching and prioritizing skill.

I have short/medium -length hair, and I'm scared not to let the DevaCurl-trained white/Spanish stylist in my city who has hundreds of 5-star reviews and video demos on YouTube that I found in my city cut it. I'm not ready to say, "I know you gave me a great dry cut before, but I'm going to keep bouncing around with folks who don't have as many reviews or whose work I can't watch on YouTube, 'cause they look different than you."

I am open to finding a great black stylist, though. It just so happens that the stylist I found is white. I was shocked. And she's great, and I'm loyal to her. About a week or so ago I went to a stylist away from my home city. She is at Curltopia. She's black. She knew way less than me about natural hair and products. As she was telling me how she got into doing natural hair, I was relieved I didn't let her trim my hair.

OMG, that sucks!

I just think that we can get excited about things because they're presented as shiny and new but it really isn't much to it. Also, many YouTubers get services for free or have paid promos.

I feel the same way. My friend flew out here for an appointment that she waited 4 months to get for a deva cut. She had to wash her own hair and style it herself before her appointment, then they charged her 300 for the cut. She came out looking like she wasted 295 dollars.

Atleast you know how to cut your own hair. Some pros are good. I think it's important to stress what you want and even ask them to show you what they'll in a mirror. This is easier to do on straight hair. The girl in the video stressed to keep it longer but he clearly ignored her.

I feel the same way about DevaCuts. They are cute on short and smedium length hair, but looks weird at longer lengths.

yesssssss best revenge!!!! pass it on
idk why i'm so angry for her but I am. I want him to pay for this. I do not believe this was a mistake and if it was actually a mistake then he needs to go back to beauty school and has No business in anyone's hair.

I am ridiculously upset over this and it's not like I'm a regular follower. But if she isn't ready to lead the charge then I'm leaving my Timberlands in the closet.

So not surprised at naptural85 kumbaya response. Wouldn't be surprised if she reached out to her behind the scenes to encourage not fighting. If I knew her in real life? Probably be reading about us on the news. Jesus knows my heart and is working on anger management.

Bet you she won't let him come near her head though:rolleyes: glad I don't follow her either.

I ain't letting nobody cut my hair while it's curly. Cut it straight or it won't happen. And before you cut my hair, I need to see how much you're cutting. I'm watching in the mirror with a straight face.

I ain't got the patience for this foolishness. No one is cutting more than a half an inch off my hair for a "trim". I need to grow that half an inch back first, then we can cut more, especially since I am in protective styles all the time and I'm moisturizing my ends on the regular.

It takes a year to get 6 inches if you get that. No sir, I ain't gonna let them do it.

I've been getting Devacuts for consistently for over a year now at Devachan Salon with no issues or complaints. It's not the cut, its the person performing the cuts.

This is HORRIBLE.
Exactly. Me too. This guy messed up my hair too. After going to a woman in Harlem that wanted me to sit all day in her shop I went to Devachan.
