Thanks for the Shout out Patience :)

My hair was shoulder length when I started my journey back in 2001. My hair was about BSL before and I would relax about 2-3 a year. Around the time of my senior prom, I had received a perm from a very unexperienced stylist who washed the perm out with astringent before water. She also Straighten my hair with a curling iron while wet. So she basically tore my hair up and it completely stopped growing. It had fell to SL and bits and pieces of the middle crown area were very short.

I started looking on the internet for hair growth remedies when a came across some hair boards. I think it was longhaircommunity.com that I had found first. There was a woman named Jade21 who had all the answers as far as making your hair grow long without all the gimmicks.

For the first two years I had consistently taken multi vits and minerals, B- vitamins, MSM, Chlorophyll, Alfafa,Silica, Omega Oils, you name it. I had completely switched to organic shampoos and conditioners, and stopped using heat. I also used a hair filter and CO washed at least 2x a week. That regimen had given my hair a complete and total boost.

However, for the last couple of years, I have focused more on retaining it. I have not taken vits in a year or so. I am waiting to do a colonic before I start a vitamin reg again. I Haven't used the filter and I use condition wash every 2-3 days. I have no set regimen now.

Some of the things that has helped my keep my length are: Eqyss Meg- Tek ( as a leave-in), Protein treatments (no particular brand), keeping my hair oiled, and using a denman brush. I think I probably had my hair trimmed a year or so ago. My hair is very uneven to be honest with you. I am hoping to start getting more routined with my haircare because my hair is long, but too darn thin :(

Here are some things that helped trigger my growth-

Biotin -www.freedavitamins.com
Silica Cell Food- Lumina Helath
MSM- www.almsm.com
Chlorophyll- Brand Nature's Sunshine
EFAs- Health By the Sun/ Barlean's Brand
B-5 Panthenol- NOW foods
Lecithin- NOW Foods

Oh, I am working on a fotki account.

Thanks again for the compliment. Sorry in Advance about my typos :)

Thanks Ella. I am Natural 6 years and counting. I get my hair blown out by the Dominicans on "special" occasions.

That last perm from 2001 pretty much scared me away from relaxers permanently. I had a similar experience with getting my eye brows waxed, which has led me to natural ways of grooming.lol

Thanks so much for the hair shout y'all.

I think I have reached my goal of length. I don't think I qant to go any longer because its gets real hot and gets realy hard to manage while wet.

I am not sure what my hair type is. The middle crown area is very, very coarse. I think I am multi-textured that ranges from 3b to 4a (in crown area).

Nice to see a Natural sista doing her thing! This had definitely given me more confidence about my decision to transition. Thanks!

RR, go for it. At first its rough, then its all good afterwards. There are so many great styles to rock when you're natural. It was one of the best decisions I've made. :)

Just beautiful!!! I am mad now  that I missed all that hair at the Florida meet up. Do you go to Salon Dominicano on Colonial Drive?

Hi BGSIX :)

I go to Sense of Beauty off of 434 in Longwood. They have you in and out in 1.5hrs. Plus, they advocate natural hair unlike other salons that push relaxers on your (especially the unruly new growth).

Here is the number/address:

209 W. S.R. 434
Longwood, FL 32750
(407)331-9992

Carolina (my stylist) said we had another LHCFer that visted recently. Not sure who it was though.

I did not realise you were natural, you give me hope.

How often do you trim? I see you've been natural for 6 years now. Have you had any setbacks due to knots or are you lucky and don't get them?

I don't trim often. I trim like once a year if that. No matter how much I trim, my hair grows back all types of crazy so I just let it grow. I am the type that people get angry with because I have raggedy ends.lol

I haven't had any set backs, since I wear wash n gos most of the time. I get knots galore but the denman and bone combs have helped me with ease detangling. I also use Eqyss Avo mist to help me to detangle my hair and only detangle with globs of conditioner.

The only thing I absolutely hate about being natural is my new growth at my hairline. After getting a blow out, my straight style lasts no more than a few days. That part of my hair will not curl or flat iron straight. I contemplate whether or not I should relax that small section, but still fumbling with the idea.

I wear it curly about 4 days out the week or I just wear wet buns.

Instead of baggying, I wash my hair and put it in a ponytail with rubberbands throughout the ponytail. Sometimes when it dries it gives that braid-out look. I have sensitve skin that always breaks out, so I have been doing the whole pony tail thing since this heat.

Oh, how far is Longwood from Kissimmee? I am contemplating a straight style for this coming christmas, when the humidity is down in JA (yeah right) and I would prefer going to a Dom salon

Maybe 30 minutes tops from I-4. Just hope on I-4 and get off the Longwood exit and make a right onto 434. The salon is on the right-hand before you get to 427/Ronald Reagan Road.

Make sure you get some of that Aveda anti-humectante before going to JA. That heat is no joke.
