Black Women Express Outrage Over New "tone Deaf," "white-washed" Sheamoisture Ad

I can't say for sure what's happening now that makes it seem worse but I truly believe this stuff has always been simmering. Black women just used to stay silent in the interest of not making bm feel bad when the world already does that enough. But we've never gotten the same respect in return. Instead, bm have taken out their justifiable frustration out on us.

I don't think that's even specific to bm. Take any man in a patriarchal society, constrain his choices so that it's hard for him to support a family, and you will see him lash out at those closest to him to give himself some semblance of power and respect. But just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it's right.

..

Because women aren't infibulated in AA society, I think this is just how it all turns out. People are more sexually and socially free here so there are no burqa's and such. Honor killings here are just plain dv killing, abuse, diss and disrespect, jumping ship, slamming BW in public etc. If we could place BM in the East for 10 years, it would look like the same types of misogyny their women go through. BM aren't but one hair's breadth from that. Just mho.

I am extremely disappointed.

The idea that expending for a natural hair products company means catering to white women is so strange to me. Can we not have anything for ourselves??

What upsets me the most is that they had the audacity to have Becky and Sarah talk about hair hate. When has your hair as it grows out if your head even gotten you written up at work? Expelled from schools? Ridiculed by your peers? When Becky?

And to top it all off, they never once mentionned Black women in their fake ass apology. They used "women of color".

*eye roll*

Black women made you.

Shea Moisture is cancelled. I will use up what I have left and buy from another company. I will never buy from them again.

So the owner came rushing onto TVOne NewsOne with Roland Martin to mansplain this mess.

In summary, he dodged the question of us being represented in management. He kept running around in circles. His explanation for the video was the need to market to a wider audience or else SheaMoisture won't be able to compete with larger companies. He was inspired by Pantene and Dove commercials (ie his competitors ). It is his opinion that black women need to support this mess because we will end up in the same place we were before SheaMoisture came on the scene.

And get this, he said SheaMoisture led the way in helping showcase and market other black-owned products on shelves. We should be forever thankful to SheaMoisture.

They also had the nerve to bring on a panel of mostly black men to weigh in on the issue. And a Carol Daughter rep.

This video made me even more mad, but goes to show we really need to stop being mules for these fools (ie brushing this aside as one huge mistake that we should forgive and forget). Nope. This dude knew what he was doing and what message he wanted to send.

I don't take well to being threatened or black men claiming to speak for me when they are only speaking on behalf of their wallets...let Tarik and nem spend their coins to keep Shea Moisture in business. Let black men "do it for the culture."

Yeah, I'll wait...

Man, these bucketheaded swindlers are nuts if they think they are entitled to see one more cent of black women's hard earned monies.

ETA:
Once again, this is a case of "You can get by but you can't get through." Shea Moisture has been exposed. Yet, these fools think we are fools. But if, after all of this, we continue to buy their products, then who is the REAL fool: the fool or the fool paying the fool to disrespect them?

So, quit playin', ladies.

I tried watching it, but his entire aura isn't one that is apologetic for offending his consumer base. I'm interested in watching this whole thing play out.

Wow. Now this annoys me more than the video ever could. You earn your customers they and companies that come after you owe you nothing.

I find this a reoccurring theme with some men, that somehow they're owed something.

In what world?

This was free advertisement and he should really go hard in marketing to his new segment because he obviously has lost a lot of support in the way he went about this.

He has shifty eyes in that video... the owner doesn't sit well with me at all. He ain't trustworthy and Roland Martin sure had a lot of people capping for Shea Moisture in that segment. Smh

Roland Martin is always caping for BM and supporting anything that makes BW look we're angry/bitter/wrong.

He caped for BOAN (tweeted that BW didn't go to see the film because Parker's wife is white). He caped for Paula Deen by saying that Black people shouldn't be mad because we also use the n-word (so he is capable of caping for a woman - if she's white). He caped for Essence when BW were upset that they hired a white fashion editor by saying that he wouldn't want to deny the opportunity to her because he wouldn't want that to happen to BP .

So Roland is a long-time, unrepentant coon. Him caping for SM - and doing that 20 minute commercial - does not surprise me in the least. He's a perfect example of a BM who is solely pro-BM.

Camille Rose was another product I saw.... what do you guys think of that one??

I am in love with their Coconut Water line and Curl Maker gel and ginger rinse cleanser. In. Love. They are a bit more costly, but long-lasting and more than worth it for me.

I can't abide the scent of the butter gel and one of the milks or leave-ins, but I have a funny nose. Many people really like those products.

She is disappointed because now she is getting replaced by mix women 3a hair and white women hair. She wasn't disappointed when 3c and 4a hair was used as the hair type of the natural hair movement.

Can someone elaborate on this a bit? I see shade thrown at Mahogany Curls but I don't understand why.Why is the onus placed on her to rep for hair that is not her own and turn down checks in the process?

He also said that we (black women) tend to have opinions without investing. Without having a stake. Sir...

I don't know who he thought was buying his soaps and crap on the streets of Harlem, but if that's not an investment, I don't know what is. He has made this into a travesty.
