May 2017: Hits & Misses

So now I'm curious :sekret:...your reviews always lead me to look up the featured product!

I'm guessing you like this more than the CR Rinse?

I do! :yep: HOWEVER, the CR Rinse is very good in my opinion.

I don't think anything is going to compare to the 22nd Century Natural Woman Shampoo Bar for me, but the CR Rinse is probably my second favorite "shampoo." My hair feels hydrated after using it, and I did a little detangling with it, but nothing on par with the 22CNW Shampoo Bar.

With the 22CNW Shampoo Bar, it's about what it does to wash day overall, mainly because once applied and once I elongate my hair with it in, my hair just stays long/stretched like that for a while. And my hair is slippery. Detangle-ability city! :yep: And then after rinse-out, it's hard to describe how healthful my hair feels.

There's another LHCF member here who feels the same way. But . . . I'm sure it won't do everyone's hair the same. Shipping is kinda costly, IMO, so it's a risk trying it. Her LHCF handle is mayoo. She might have helpful information about it.

@YvetteWithJoy im not interested in shampoo bars, but I wonder: does this leave a film?

Good question! (I say that because after my initial use of it, I was trying to figure that out!)

I hate to answer this way, but my answer is "I don't think so." The reason I say that is because my hair doesn't quite feel NAKED after rinsing it out, but it definitely does NOT feel tacky even remotely. It does not feel oily or product-laden or anything like that. But it does not feel like my NAKED hair feels.

After rinse-out, my hair feels similarly to how it does after rinsing out the CRN Ginger Rinse, except
  • the CRN Ginger Rinse un-defines my hair, the 22CNW bar does not
  • my hair feels fuller and stronger after using the 22CNW bar as compared with the CRN Ginger Rinse.

Hit and Miss:
SM JBCO Poo

So, I was talking to another fellow e-sis and she was telling me that what she likes about SM is the film it leaves. It leaves the hair softer and easier to handle. I noticed but figured my hair was fine so left it alone.

Once I stopped using the Poo and went back to CRN, I noticed the film went away because my hair is holding less moisture over time, shrinks faster and is shinier. I'm quickly going from protein every 3 months with SM to possibly every 2 months with the CRN because that film isn't there to hold more moisture in. My hair would still be soft and stretched on day 7. Now, it's soft but needs to be deep conditioned.

It's alright though; I have shiny hair now. I kinda miss my SM but I'm not complaining about CRN.

Thanks!

I posted a review on SM and CRN because I had been meaning to, but your pp and comparison made me think of it. SM left me with a film that I didn't realize and it's why I liked it. CRN doesn't. It's kinda everything you mentioned.

When I used to use shampoo bars, the same e-sis and I kinda didn't like those films and gave up on using them.

Head and Shoulders Clinical Strength Shampoo (diluted)
Hit: My scalp feels so much better after using this shampoo. I've been itch free for 3 days and hope it lasts until wash day this Friday.
Miss: My hair was literally squeaky clean after using this shampoo. I can't imagine how my hair would have felt if I used it full strength.

Henna (Jamila mixed with Godrej Nupur 9 herb)
Hit: I love the cherry tint it gave my hair. The few grey strands I have aren't bright orange but red, which I like.
Hit: Applying and rinsing out in my backyard. No more worries about staining my bathroom.

Continued Hit: ITDF Marshmallow Moisture Balm and GVP Nexxus Humectress cond
After using Head and shoulders shampoo and Henna, I was worried my usual DCs wouldn't be enough. But after applying and leaving on overnight, my strands were just as soft and moisturized as they are after a regular wash day.

I just tried Deciem ( Abnormal-The Ordinary) HIF intensive detox cleansing conditioner and it is everything! The scent is minty minty minty.......has my bathroom smelling fresh and my scalp feeling tingly clean. Only gripe is that it really doesn't lather.

After rinsing & drying, my hair is full, soft, swingy, I think this might be a keeper. just want to try out a few clay treatments and the peppermint detox @IDareT'sHair is talking about.^^^hey sis:lachen:

New Hits:
The Mane Choice hair growth oil
I didn't like it at first because it's extremely lightweight. I'm used to heavier oils like hemp, JBCO, sesame & neem. However my scalp and roots absorb this blend quickly. It's ideal for rollersets & straight styles because it won't weigh the hair down. I used it in my avi pic; twists on a shrunken week-old flat iron.

LUSH Queen Bee Hair Honey
It looks like unrefined shea butter but smells like honey & red tea. The main ingredients are cocoa butter, rooibos tea, African wild honey, glycerin, beeswax, corn & argan oils. LUSH markets this as a concentrated solid hair styler; but it acts like a moisturizer on my hair (no hold).

Miss: This stuff costs $77/lb! The pieces in my picture cost $20. LUSH doesn't package Queen Bee; it melts like a stick of butter. You must store it in the fridge. Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika twisting butter performs the same without the special handling. 20170524_222736.jpg

Revisited Miss: LUSH R&B Hair Moisturizer
I got a 2 ounce sample when I bought Queen Bee. The sales rep said this was created for afro-textured hair and is LUSH's best selling product. R&B is a wet, thick cream like Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream. It smells like jasmine & henna. Unlike QB R&B does not moisturize my hair. It just sat on my hair. R&B only worked when I used it as a sealant or mixed with other products (QBBRBC, QBMTCG, Curl Junkie & Tresemme Naturals conditioners). I'll stick with Qhemet & Afroveda butter creams.

I know you do. I'm trying to decide what to get for Mem-day. I know Joe's Joe will be in there. Thinking mango pumpkin. Also thinking about peppermint mocha Joe. I have the avocado moss and 2 green tea. Plus half a jar of green tea and about 2oz of Joe's Joe. Hmmm... decisions decisions.

MISS:

x2 tubes of Nexxus Emergencee Reconstructing Treatment
- no backups - not a repurchase because I can get Dudley's DRC 28 on the ground and dollar for ounce, it's cheaper for me too. It's a good strengthener though - I'm just trying to minimize my online purchases to just a few vendors and items.

x1 jar of J. Monique's Burdock Root & Nettle Hair Repair Treatment - no backups and not a repurchase. It offered my hair no slip but I think it did strengthen my hair a teeny bit - again I'll stick with my Joico K-Pak line, Keracare 5 in 1 Reconstructor and Keracare Restorative Hair Masque since I can also get these on the ground.

x1 jar of J. Monique's Hibiscus & Broccoli Deep Conditioner - no backips and no repurchase. Not enough moisture and definitely no slip so I'll stick with my Joico line and Keracare Humecto - I get far better results from these.
