I thought it was interesting. Someone is actually selling the mixture if you click the link it has the info. I cannot confirm or deny how amazing the mixture is. :look: I just think it's great to see hair practices from black cultures. Anyway, their hair reaches their butts or longer and they say it never breaks from childhood. They are moisturizing their hair and sealing :giggle: btw and then they are of course doing low manipulation in braids.

I'm thinking the weight of the powders, etc and the braids stretch out the hair because their bangs are short and look a different texture (they don't apply it to their bangs).
At any rate, it is great to see what others are doing. Hope you enjoy!

Whoops. This one is translated though. It was posted four days ago. Should I take it down and how? I hope it's an easy process or else it will just have to sit here. I haven't posted in forever and I'm still recovering (pretty sick and had surgery for Crohn's) so I am not thorough in researching, etc as I usually am. I was told to find "distractions" from the pain (yeah right okay then) so I was looking at hair stuff on youtube and thought, hey this will be good for lhcf.

Someone did post the translation and transcript, but the OP has not changed the thread title.

I am glad to see you posting, again. :)

I watched this video early yesterday. :afropick: AS A RESULT or by inspiration I spent the (entire) day on my:hair: hair.

I slathered on my favorite oil combo, then layered it with aloe as I put my hair into several 2STs. My hair was already clean and was pulled back into a puff.

My take-away from the video is/was that I will use oil both to de-tangle (pre-poo/oil treatment) and to style my dry hair before and after washing (moisture/sealant). Last night I slept with a t-shirt on my twists to both protect my linen and to absorb the excess oil. In this case I diluted a jar of Indian Hemp Hair & Scalp Treatment (which has a wonderful but strong scent) by melting/mixing it with Coconut & Grapeseed oils; this is the mix I slathered onto my strands. GrapeSeed oil is light and is easily absorbed by skin and hair; coconut oil is very effective too

:bookworm:IMHO it is the CARE techniques used during maintenance & the PROTECTIVE styling they use to PRESERVE their STRANDS & ENDS that leads to the GROWTH being so visible. NOT so much the special mix; to "stimulate growth" they would focus on scalp care and massaging the scalp which they don't.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's really protective styling, moisturizing the heck out of the hair, probably the special concoction strengthens, and then it's low manipulation all the way. I say low because they do manipulate the hair but it's every five days. They also say that without the mixture their hair in the front is shorter so I do think that products do matter so to speak, but after that it's the whole leave it alone thing.

I love that you were inspired to go all out on your hair! :)

I'm about to watch it again lol. I feel like the butter and the powder also keep the hair from getting too mushy.

My takeaway is that I am going to slather my hair in moisturizer and then use a heavy butter on my hair when braiding it for protective styling. I don't think I've been using enough and putting it on meticulously like they do. I want braids that hang past my waist also.

I came across this a few days ago. This tribe is well known for a lot of beauty secrets from skin treatments to afterbirth tightening steam treatments they're all the rage in West Africa at the moment.

The vid had me with my water spray and butter, brushing and plaiting.

Thanks for posting OP feel better soon x

ETA: a few years ago I mentioned some red sticks for reducing water retention etc afterbirth it's from a similar tribe I still don't have an English name but there's dorot and gab gab (lurkers please don't shut down the market)!

Here is an informative video that give the backstory on their practices. The young lady does a Q&A and is very forthright in what she shares and or does herself.

As many of us surmized, they achieve the length because of their Protective Styling Practices.

Shocking to me was that they do not wash their hair between treatments 0r maybe (naw really) they don't at all.

Okay.... I was like :bookworm:....with the skin treatment thing until I got to the after birth tightening and then I was like....:brainy:...and I don't have kids. What in the world are they doing? You mean to tighten up after pregnancy...and what does it have to do with the after birth placenta? Please tell me they aren't eating it or anything:barf: or am I mixing that up and you mean after birth of the child they tighten the :blondboob: vs they are using the after birth for some other reasons. Please help me understand

Lol after they've had the baby for the next 40days they do a similar treatment to the Sudanese Dhukan (smoke treatment- sit on a special stool that has a burner with the herbs)it helps get rid of impurities, water retention and yes tightens the vag after delivery.

There are other herbs and things but I'd mentioned this on here years ago without much detail
