I'm still heading for terminal length - I want to see just HOW long it can get. I voted 2012, but I suspect I'll be traveling with my hair long after that....

I'm done. I decided about a month ago that I didn't want to grow any further so I'm going to begin doing maintenance trims starting this weekend. I still have about an inch of no-lye ends I'd like to get rid of so I guess that's part of my journey. Once that's done, my hair will be thick from root to tip, and I'm happy with the condition and length of it. I should be done all my little extras by Christmas.

I voted 2010 - my dedication to hair care started in December 2004 so I'm at the half-way mark. I hope to reach hip- or tailbone-length in another 2.5 years then after that it will just be upkeep.

Well Im at BSL and I want BLUNT midback so I WOULD have said a year BUT I have about 85% natural hair (transitioning) and I know Im gonna have to eventuallly cut about 3 inches and I want a blunt cut so Im giving it 2 years. June of 20009, I should be there

I don't really see my journey ending per say but transitioning. I know that I want to have WL stretched hair and since I just BC'ed I voted 2012 or after. I am not sure how long its going to take me to get there but I am just enjoying the ride. Once I get there then its going to be about maintainence and deciding whether or not I want to put some sort of chemical in it. I will probably be straightening a lot more at that point...so yeah, another journey will surely ensue after I reach my goal...

It will always continue. I may reach my "goal length" but I suspect I'll still be learning about it for quite some time after that (styles, learning how to straighten one-day etc). I think I'll reach my actual hair goal (WL) by November next year at the latest.

In terms of hair care, my journey won't end.

But in terms of length, my ultimate goal is BSL stretched. Anything beyond that is purely optional. I'm hoping I can reach BSL by next summer.

I've been on this journey since 2007 when I decided to go natural. I chopped off my hair and have been growing out ever since.

I'm now MBL and in love with my hair. My ultimate goal is supposed to be tailbone length and I'm sure I'll get there by Sept 2010. My problem is that I want BSL curly hair and until I get that I can't see myself stopping. I hate shrinkage! At the same time I can't see myself walking about with classic length straight hair just to get my BSL curly hair. It takes me 1 hour and 30 minutes under a Pibbs for my hair to dry. Can't imagine how long it'll be under the dryer around this time next year.

Cool thread!! Helps keep things in perspective and focused on your goals and making them!! :) I put 2012, because I just started my natural journey with 3 inches of hair. So if I can get as close as possible to waist length in 5 years that'll be great!! (In March 2010 I should be shoulder length and this time next year hopefully armpit). If not that's cool too, as I plan to still have healthy hair. So it may be longer than 5 years, just depends on where I am, if I'm meeting my goals and don't have any setbacks.

My journey will never end. Even once I reach my length goals, I expect to continue the journey for hair health. The habits I have gained will definitely not cease because my length goal was reached.

12-24-2010... By then I should be MBL+ and from then on I will just continue to maintain and continue my healthy hair practice

March 2014 will make 5 years for me.

  • I am figuring that it will take 18-20 months for me to get to full APL. That's, at latest, November 2010.
  • I give myself 8-9 months to get to full BSL...and that's July 2011.
  • I give myself a year to have setbacks and to just not do what I should, and that year could happen all at once or broken up over time. (I think I am having part of that time right now, matter of fact. :nono::grin:.) That takes me to July 2012.
  • I give myself another year just for trims, cuts, and dustings and to make full WSL. That's July 2013.
  • By March 2014, I should know if I am going to stay there, what my regimen should be, and how to maintain. March 2014 is the end of my 5 year mark. I have a long face, long neck, long torso...so my length goals have to be stretched out a bit.
(I need to print this to remember because I have actually never thought of it in this much detail. We'll see what actually happens over time. My mom doesn't believe I will ever get to APL or full shoulder because she thinks neck to top of shoulder length is a genetic thing in our family, forgetting that my DD is in our family as well.)

Great post, OP. You made me think about my hair journey in terms of real time for the first time!

Thanks!!

I love this thread! It's so lovely to look at all the original posters, because many of them have reached their goals and beyond.

I'll make APL by my next relaxer on Jan 1, 2010. Hoping to make BSL by August 2010. Then on to MBL by Valentine's Day, 2011.

Then I'll be happy!

My growth journey should end in 2011 at MBL stretch and I should start maintaining my length and trimming to even it up into a U shape.

I wish I new...my goal is APL curly. With my shrinkage, I have no idea how long that's going to take. Right now, I'm about BSB stretched, but with a wash n go, my hair is barely shoulder and sometimes less. I'm hardcore bunning to reach my goals one day at a time. I will always care for my hair, but I will not be strict about protective styling.

I make 30 look good!
I don't know what my final goal length is. Right now I'd be happy with APL straightened, which I wont hit for at least 18 months.

mine ends this year, pretty much. :look:

I'm done actively growing out my hair. now that I've made MBL and my layers are pretty much grown out... I'm happy with pretty much everything about my hair. I'd like to see if I can get to waist length, but not in any rush to get there, and don't really care if it happens or not.

when 2010 starts, hair is going on the back burner for me. :yep:

In feb/mar 2011 I will have been on my healthy hair journey for 3 years. Hopefully by then I will have reached full Bra-strap length which is my hair goal.

I selected the 2012 option because right now it feels indefinite. I probably won't reach my length goal-WSL-for quite a few years. Even though I have been natural for two years I am just now mastering my reggie. I have also been wearing a puff religiously, but now I have decided to break that cycle and wear protective styles.

Hopefully maybe just another 6 months to a year. I don't want to get ahead of myself. So, I take what I can get.

I will just say it will be a minute. I am not stressing about when I reach goals anymore. I will know when I know.

Particularly with my shrinkage issues. :ohwell:
