Man, I gotta be really on itnwith the time management. Im working this weekend so I plan to do my hair tonight:

HOT: I'll use an ayurvedic oil and will probably mix in a little castor and maybe hemp for the ceramides

Cleasnse: Long hot water rinse and then make a paste of Shikkakai, brhami, amla and maybe a little aritha to help get out the oils...

Homeade DC

M&S

I really, really need to rollerset my hair.

I lied. Work won’t let me be hair great. Stupse. This hopefully will happen after church tomorrow... I need to get my butt to bed.

Then we would all be on Instagram if so. Sadly that's not the case. The famous curly hair woes are no joke. So many people are struggling to come up with a single perfect regimen, let alone to have all regimens be perfect without exceptions.
I'm not sure what you mean. Those people put in work to be on there. I'm not about that life. And I've had a solid regiment for years.......

You have to be careful with social media because we don't know what's really going on. We don't know if they are telling the truth or not. Some of them might be putting up a vasad, hmph. I am not gullible, I was not raised in this faux generation of social media :lachen:.
I do agree. I know one and I proof. But I do know what my hair likes too.

Okay got up too late to make the tea this morning and I'm heading out to church for 11 and I have a funeral at 2:30. So looks like I will have to make it this evening after the funeral. We have some long funerals down here in the Bahamas so I may not go to the grave site.

I will be doing my usual this weekend (shampoo, condition, moisturize and air dry). RIGHT NOW, I have no idea which products from my product stash I will be using. There's so many goodies to select from. My hair is about three inches long now. It's still very curly, so I can only tell it's three inches long when I pull a curl down to stretch it. I was thinking about blowing it dry, but I don't think I'm ready for that just yet. Have a great weekend ladies.

I just did my first henna ever over night.
I am on the fence about this, my hair feels weird and dry....
BUT....my hair is now a nice brownish colour.. (which I wasn't using it for)

The conditioning aspect I really wanted? I'm not really seeing, so I'm sitting here, deep conditioning for an hour or so.

Henna is like a protein treatment. You have to do a moisturizing DC afterwords.

My first and only (thus far) henna treatment was meh. I figure I need to try it again, but I haven't desired all the fuss.

I wonder if a rhassoul clay mask would be more conditioning than a henna treatment.

Henna doesn't dry my hair, but it doesn't condition either. I always follow up with a moisturizing DC.

I'm sorry to hear this @metro_qt. Did you use henna straight up or did you make a henna gloss with some conditioner in it? I find that henna straight up does leave my hair a little dry but not since I started using it as a gloss. It thickens up my fine strands quite a bit accumulatively of course. I love henna a lot.

The work I have to put into it is the same as using any other ayurveda powders in my opinion. I just have to wait for the dye to release for a few hours but that's no different than making infusions @YvetteWithJoy

Wow are we really talking here about how great and awe-inspiring your hair is but how you refuse to show it to the world (and to us) because you are not about that life?

Anyway, to address the matter at hand, I think that it's an ignorant and naive position to have no clear definition and understanding of what healthy hair is and so resort to equating it to hair that looks or behaves good.

First of all because "good hair" itself doesn't have a clear definition, even if in this specific context we defined it as hair that looks the same level of great with all sorts of regimens and products. Which we are not even sure truly exists.

If you stick around here for long enough and read through and understand people's experiences, stories, struggles and triumphs, you will gradually come to understand what I mean. And you will come to the realization that perfectly healthy hair can be and is definitely often picky about products and can react differently to different ingredients according to its characteristics such as porosity, strand thickness, curl pattern, etc. And healthy hair can indeed go through times when it doesn't behave or look good if, to give a few examples, it's exposed to products it doesn't care for, or it has build-up on it, or it goes through a phase of moisture or protein overload, etc.

And to make things even more confounding for some, some damaged non-healthy hair can look good if you do the right things to it, for example if you coat it with silicones, if you apply a lot of heat to it, etc. And you can then perfectly post photos of it on instagram and claim that you have put a lot of work on it to get it to where it is now over the years.

I hope I made myself clear this time.

Thanks, lady. Maybe I made mine too runny. I used coconut milk, and it was a mess in the shower, to apply, etc.

I might try coconut cream this time. Ionno. I'm going to do some research.

I am FINALLY doing my hair. Had to finger detangle with my oil because my hair is dry. Im using a combo of mahabringraj and castor.

Hair feels nice and soft now. Im here under the dryer for a HOT maybe 30min? then hopefully the wash and condition portion will be relatively quick.

I hate putting cold things on my head so Imma mix my hair wash and blend the DC while my hair is cooling down from this dryer

I was getting the urge to try fenugreek in my henna mix because I remember it being so thick and full of slip. It really was a dream to apply with minimal mess. I didn't even have to lay out newspaper. Straining the fenugreek was a whole mess, but it helped when I just kept adding water to it.

Overnight Henna mix:
fenugreek, coconut milk, sage oil and warm water
Cowash: HEHH
DC: cocoa butter mix under every stand coconut and Shea DC

Then I realised my greys were still standing out proudly. I'm wondering if the fenugreek limits henna's colour depositing.

Hendigo: mountainroseherbs in medium brown, salt and warm water. Applied and left uncovered for about an hour
DC: artnaturals argan oil hair mask, shea butter mix and castor oil mix
Leave ins: argan oil and lottabody 5 in 1 spray
Stretch: twisted roots with perm rods and then brushed it into a bun.

Hmmm, I really need a hard core protein treatment but since I don't have anything strong enough like my colorful neutral protein fuller, I'll have to push it back to next week.

Prepoo: random oils around here
Cleanse: Loreal Cleansing Balm for Dry Hair (I'll use the Redken Genius Cowash once I clarify next week)
DC: Something in my stash, not sure yet
Leave In/Sealant: APB Hair Lotion, APB Creamy Oil
Put in twists for twist out

How do you like the cleansing balm?

Thanks everyone! @Aggie @Nightingale
I ended up doing a deep condition with jbco and lots of conditioner for 2 hours afterwards.

My hair is ok...it seemed like it was much harder to style this time. (As in my curls just wanted to be a cloud of hair...did not want to let me be great!)

Now that my hair is fully dry, it's ok... I'm not sure what the henna fuss is about... but i have 2.5 more boxes to use up in the next few months...so ill probably be doing henna glosses like someone suggested above.

Signed, -not wowed by henna

I understand. It's really not for everyone. Sorry it didn't work for you though. I don't even get the hard dry feeling in my hair anymore. But of course it's been more than 7 years since I have been using henna and I find it to be really really great on my hair after consistent use.

I remember the first time I used henna my hair was like a bird’s or rat’s nest.

I think my first mix was warm water with asv and an entire pack 100ml?

I switched to adding a tsp to conditioner to do glosses on my second attempt (a couple years later) that worked and then I stwitched to 2 tbs in coconut milk, which is what I use now.
