Challenges 2018

I actually enjoyed that challenge. I think towards the end I was one of the few still posting.

eta: just went to look at that thread and yeah a lot of us were all over the place. At least I know I was  It was hard coming up with stuff after the 2nd quarter maybe. But my hair did improve from that thread.

Yeah, I need to get clear in my mind what I want it to be. I don't think I had a clear vision for that one. Maybe something will come to me. I didn't reach a single milestone in that challenge  boo

I want a Can't Bun to Can Bun Challenge.

I would also like to do another Milestone Challenge but I need to figure out how to explain it. Had too many in the last challenge that didn't understand what a milestone was.
Yeah I like this bun challenge! I would join. I still have a struggle bun! Lol but I gotta be able to manipulate (wash) my hair though.

I want a hide your length/ends challenge without faux hair. No wigs, no extensions, no weaves. It would be nice to have a HYH challenge where people have to actually deal and work with their own hair. No crutches.

Now if there is a HYH challenge with faux hair included, I want headwraps included in the mix too.

I love the Use Up Your Stash challenge because it has helped me narrow and focus my stash. I've been in it for years and never actually used up my stash, but it does decrease.

Deep Conditioning challenge is another must for me.

I would like to see a low manipulation challenge. Sometimes I wash n go. Sometimes I braid, bun, or do a braidout/twistout, so none of those challenges work for me because I'm not consistent. Low manipulation covers it all.

I want to try Ayurveda next year and I've been watching Curly proverbs to do so, so I'd join the Ayuveda/Curly Proverbs challenge.

I miss the Nail Your Regimen challenge, which ties it all together.

I don't know why y'all keep listing use 1/buy 1 as a real challenge. I've been in that thread. It's more like use 1, buy 1, buy 1 more, buy 2 or 3 and then stock up

Lol.

That thread confuses me. One of my first posts was there, to ask a question, get a feel for things, "meet" people, and I was PROMPTLY chastised for breaking the protocol of posting randomly there. Lol! Ouch!

As I continued reading others' random posts there, and watching all the spending, I stayed confused and a little hurt. Lol. Someone PM'd me to ignore the chastising and to understand what it meant. And she confirmed that I wasn't crazy to not be able to see how it was a Use 1, Buy 1 thread. I got it!

What would posters post about the milestone while they are trying to reach it?

I think I was one of the people who didn't post correctly to it. I'm sawwy! Please love me still.

And thank you: I love the head coverings. :yep:

I didnt explain the purpose of the thread well enough. My intention was for people to have milestones on 5he way 5o a length goal. For instance next year I want to make APL and hopefully I will have some milestones on 5he way 5here like being able to do a high bun or have my twist hang to my shoulders.

The milestone should be something I couldn' do at SL but I can do before I get to APL.

I don't remember what milestones people had but it wasn'
what I envisioned.

No need to be sorry. I didnt explain t well. I may try again.

Again, just thinking aloud.

Stay Within a Hair Budget Challenge
Description
:
Initial post: Think through how often you need to purchase whatever you use for your hair. Include ingredients (oils, powders, etc.), disposable processing caps, vitamins, shipping fees, etc. Based on these purchasing needs, ballpark a monthly budget. Have a monthly reward for staying under budget (massage from spouse, favorite meal, "coupon" from real-life accountability partner to purchase "dream" product, etc.). Determine what your emergency pass is (1 product, an amount such as $15, etc). You get one pass per month.

Monthly end-of-the-month-posts: Post how you did and where you're at.

Example format for the monthly post
  • Did you stay within your budget these month? (yes or no):
  • Did you use your monthly pass? (passes don't factor into the calculation of amount spent):
  • By how much are you over or under budget YEAR-TO-DATE?: -$5.27 means that accounting for the year so far, you have spent $5.27 less than your monthly budget permits and can use it in the future . . . But +$3.21 would mean you spent $3.21 more than you budgeted, and you need to try to amend it the next month (i.e. spend at least $3.21 under budget).

I need this challenge in my life! I truly stretched myself this past weekend, by being a little too excited about the various sales that were available.

Yes please make this challenge. I can personally say that when I see peoples starting pics and I see their hair journey progression, it really is just confirmation that you can and will reach your goal if you stay consistent. Some people loose hope sometimes and those pictures really bring you back to life. IMO

Hair Photo Documentation Challenge
Description:

Thanks for starting this thread, @faithVA.

I'm just thinking aloud and brainstorming. These may already exist in some form.
  • Hair Care Consistency Challenge
    Description:
What (all) do you want to be consistent about in 2018? List it, and report back every week, two weeks, or month, as appropriate.

Example: A poster lists the following consistency goals.
    -- Quarterly trim
    -- Monthly henna treatment
    -- Weekly DC

So this poster would return and post to the thread every week, every month, and every quarter to update on all 3 consistency goals.

  • Hair Photo Documentation Challenge
    Description:
Photograph your hair every month, two months, or three months (you choose). Beneath each photo, list the hair-related challenges you are involved in (as this may evolve/change, and also to remind yourself of what you have committed to). Discuss what you see in your photos and what your evolving goals/changes are as a result of what you are seeing.

  • Nutrition, Water, and Exercise for Hair Growth Challenge
    Description:
Initial post: In an initial post, list what you think you need to eat (food and vitamins), drink, and do (exercise) for optimal hair growth. Include a length shot photo if you desire.
Once-a-week: Each Sunday by 12 noon EST, download this simple check-off form. All week on paper, check off whether you've had the water, nutrition, and exercise you deem required for optimal hair growth. Each Saturday by 12 midnight EST, upload a photo of your check-off form for accountability. If desired, beneath the photo type a reflection note about what went right and what's working, how you plan to improve or maintain, what you plan to eat, what you're drinking, how you can get more water in, etc.

Don't take it literally. You don't have to use up your stash. Just list what you want to use up. If you don't want to use up anything just post randomly. I've been in that thread forever and after the first year I haven't had a stash. Besides my staples, I probably have 5 products in my stash. :ohwell:

Im so happy you said this because I would hate for people to start just using stuff up to get rid of it. that's asking for some sort of setback IMO.

I would like to see a KISS thread and would love to see how those with really easy simple hair regimens retain length. Too many times on here I see people having to big chop for the second plus time, or regimens are just way too much, or they always seem to be buying or jumping on some new bandwagon and upset they don't see growth. again just my opinion. hope I didn't offend anyone. :)

Im personally looking forward to the the annual:
APL
52 Mondays
52 Books in 52 Weeks
Kid Challenge

I like these aforementioned ideas:
Hide Your Hair (wig inclusive) challenge.
Nutrition, Water and Exercise (Not weight loss but FITNESS!!!)

Random Thought:
Just throwing this out there but I wonder if there are any small business owners on here that would like to do a challenge/accountability/group thread.

The 52 books challenge is right up my alley!!!
What part of the forum is that in?

That Girl will remain one of my all time favorite challenges. I always participate in it regardless of whether i log into the forum or not. My current job no longer keeps me off the internet for extended periods of time so I plan on logging in more and participating.

Healthy Ends. A never ending struggle. Maybe an Ayurvedic challenge. I miss using shikakai powder to cleanse my scalp.

Something fitness related. I would also love to do the book challenge but I do not believe I will have the time.

I reached my length goal so I don't really need to be in the length challenge thread anymore.

I might go back to the healthy ends challenge so I can work on moisturizing and sealing my ends on a more regular basis. I get really lazy with that.

The hide your hair challenge didn't work for me because my ends weren't being taken care of even though they were tucked away so I still ended up having to cut.

Low manipulation or KISS challenge would be cool.

I'm pretty minimal when it comes to products so I never participate in those threads. My regimen is super simple.

Maybe we can have 2 Hide Your Ends challenges then. Many of us that wear wigs are still in our hair everyday. One can simply say "w/ wigs included". I would love to be able to interact with everyone on a regimen to hide their ends, rather than only those that wear wigs. We can all learn from each other on how we are caring for our length. People can simply choose which one they would like to join or join both. :)

There is always a wig challenge. I don’t wanna be in a challenge that deals with using faux hair to grow hair out.

And that is fine. That’s why I suggested that there can be two, so those who feel the same way can stick to the one that deal with just rocking your own hair. And those who don’t mind, can pick whichever one they want. I am aware of the wig challenge, but I would like to interact with others on a journey of protecting their ends while still taking care of their hair in other ways than just a wig. I think there is enough room for two choices for those that would like the option. Especially for those that like to switch things up, but want to continue to protect their ends in more than just one way.

The wig challenge has all of that. You should check that out. I don’t want to come off as a jerk, but I like I said, I would like a challenge that is strictly for dealing with your own hair. There was one this year, but I wash my hair too much, so I couldn’t participate in that, and that was ok. I didn’t harp on it. I went to something that I could participate in.
