Could we have dual challenges... like I would like length challenges split up by how we mainly plan to get there... I'm not sure if that would capture many people, but I would like it lol... especially if there were just 3 month mini challenges. Then we could switch up throughout the year

Baggy APL
Braid Up APL
Wigging to APL

Im obviously trying to get to APL

Yay!!!

Regarding the consistency challenge: Really? Cool. What do you envision? All I know is I need to focus on that. That is such an important skill to have. It's all well and good for me to intend to do a select amount of challenges, but if I am not consistent . . . Ya know?

I wish I had the time to host more than one challenge, but I know I can't.

I'm not sure what the "parameters" would be for a consistency challenge. I think many people find techniques and/or products that work for them, but then a new product, fad, etc comes along and we get sidetracked. It's so easy when vendors have delicious sales and you want to try something new, but most of the ladies on this board who have beautiful hair are very consistent with their products, techniques, reggie. IDK I'm just thinking out loud.

A weave detox!!

This is a really nice idea.. I personally planned on throwing in some braids and sailing through the next year or at least few months. The challenge in that case is only to moisturize and ignore it until it grows out. Your idea would be a real challenge. It sounds pretty fun actually....

I would join your challenge if the rule was that we could not wear anything that covers our hair completely or that we cannot take off instantly. That would leave clip ins (but only if our hair was out) and ponytails or buns like with braiding hair or something... Maybe for the first 6 months we can do this as a transition out of weave?

Basically if there was a transition period long enough to try to get the last few inches we would need to get if we are struggling with this idea, then I would do it. Even if we have to do it regardless of whether we got those inches or not. We had time to come to terms with what our hair is doing or not doing. Then, it's no extensions at all for the rest of the year.

Like a "My Real Hair Challenge" or "'All My Hair' Challenge" or...lol "Weave Detox 2018"

Or! Some people go cold turkey and some transition.... that would be fun too. We would have to be honest and actually want to quit the weave lol

Am I just making it complicated?

Will you be allowed a few passes throughout the year?

I can't keep up when there's too many challenges surrounding the same topic.

I was thinking this, but the passes would have to have day limits. Don't you think? ..and maybe shorter day limits as the year goes on because the point is to not have any weave as a hiding thing, but weave as a style for an event is another thing possibly. IDK! I just totally ran with this idea lol. it was actually @shortdub78 who wanted this challenge

I’m thinking about hosting.. that a big task! Lol
But if we get this challenge going, having 1-4 passes is fine. Like if we do the challenge Like quarter segments? There maybe a special event and you may not want to do too much mechanical manipulation to style your hair. So as long as we keep integrity within the challenge, it should be fine.. But the challenge is to work through, and work with your own hair. We may have to embrace the ugly in order to get to the promise land. We are spending so much on products, wigs, and extensions that we have lost our way with taking care of our own hair.

Im personally looking forward to the the annual:
APL
52 Mondays
52 Books in 52 Weeks
Kid Challenge

I like these aforementioned ideas:
Hide Your Hair (wig inclusive) challenge.
Nutrition, Water and Exercise (Not weight loss but FITNESS!!!)

Random Thought:
Just throwing this out there but I wonder if there are any small business owners on here that would like to do a challenge/accountability/group thread.
I’ll be back in the kid’s challenge!

@shortdub78 i went back to my braid idea already lol. I was going to wear braids next year. then i saw the shea butter 2018 challenge up. that would make it even more interesting to braid and bun. last time i braided with shea butter, i ended up with beautiful hair in 6 months.

i do hope that people join your challenge though! I think it is a great idea

I've always wished that the DC Challenge thread was more expansive, where it's full of detailed experiences with the products and rather than multiple posts that simply state "used ___ DC".
I agree. I try to provide more detailed reviews when introducing a product I haven't mentioned using before. I think when people are using the same products over and over, we tend to just state what was used.

I'll be happy to host the DC challenge again for 2018!

:yep:

Just thinking aloud.

Will participants have the freedom to determine their own consistency needs and goals? Would it work to provide options?

Example: Choose one or more of the following:
  • Choose what you will be consistent about on every one of the next 4 wash days.
  • Choose what you will be consistent with over the next 3 weeks in terms of styling.
  • Decide how to best treat/handle your ends. Describe it and indicate how long you will commit to handling your ends this way.
  • Etc.
My main consistency challenges are maintaining a night routine, a morning routine, water consumption, etc. I need a monthly meal plan, typed up, for example, so I can be consistent.

Still just thinking:
Maybe every 28th of the month folks could submit a (new) consistency checklist. It could have sections like:

Once a month I will . . .
Each week, once a week, I will . . .
Each weekend this month I will . . .
Each day this month I will . . .
Each night this month I will . . .
Each morning this month I will . . .

Or/also maybe it could be an umbrella thread to help track thread participation in all of one's challenges. Then every week people could post accountability about keeping up with all threads they are in, whether hair-related or not.

I don't know. Just trying to think.
