Ready to rock and roll. I think I’m going to be doing more protective styling this session. I usually suck at that but I’m going to give it the old college try. HHG in 2018!
Update to the update:
I discovered I can do a rollerset using perm rods and preserve it using my spoolies...even through a workout! I will be setting to success!

I would love to join. I can’t add a starting picture until I take my crochets out next weekend.

I chopped off my locs last year, so my hair is slightly longer than a TWA.

I plan to continue to keep it simple. At the end of the month I’m getting more crochet braids. I use WGO or JBCO on my scalp 3-4 times/wk. Once a week I use the ORS scalp cleaner and I take liquid biotin 2xs/day.

It doesn't start until 1/1 so you have plenty of time.

On break
Starting picture:
Before and after my December 21, 2017 blow dry, flat iron, and trim:

WP_20171221_101.jpg

WP_20171221_080.jpg WP_20171221_122.jpg

Current length:
I will try to get a tape measure and measure a section soon.

Regimen
A) Once a month: Chelate
B) As needed: Protein treatment
C) Every 3-7 days: Wash (or water rinse or cowash) and style
Wash and style entails these steps:
1- Prepoo, section, and predetangle hair
2- Exfoliate then cleanse scalp
3- Cleanse strands (and finger detangle strands if using a very slippery cleanser)
4- Balancing deep conditioner under heat
5- Moisturize, detangle with KareCo Tangle Buster brush, and seal: aaTCB
(AVJ ayurvedic tea, slippery cream, sealing butter . . . can add gel)
6- Treat ends, then grease or oil ends
7- Style in ways that reduce tangling (e.g., [banded] twists --> twist out . . . twist bun . . . etc.)
D) Every other night: Hydrate/moisturize the hair, oil massage edges, oil massage the scalp
E) Every night
: Protect hair by wearing a loc-sock-looking head covering from Walgreens

Prioritized products and tools: HairPrint Chelating Shampoo, Shea Moisture High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque (prepoo), Ouchless Goody Updo barrettes, Cantu ACV Root Rinse, Soultanicals Soulvedic Strands Poo Bar, HairVeda Creamy Hair Cleansing Rinse, Green Beauty Real Protein, Shea Moisture Manuka Honey Masque, HairVeda Red Tea Conditioner, Hot Head Deep Conditioning Heat Cap, CurlyProverbz DIY Ayurvedic Hair Tea, HairVeda Red Tea Heavy Cream, KareCo Tangle Buster brush, HairVeda Red Tea Serum, Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Eco Style Gel, Asha & Miel Edge Genesis Ultra Oil, CurlyProverbz DIY Ayurvedic Hair Growth Oil, Walgreens "lock soc," Biosilk Hard Rock Gelee (as my edge control)

What will you do to achieve your goal:
  • Keep my hair stretched (that is, chunky twisted, twist bunned, worn in twist out, etc., because allowed to shrink up, my hair tangles and knots).
  • Prepoo to protect against hygral fatigue and breakage.
  • RESTRICT use of a detangling brush/comb to no more frequently than every two weeks.
  • Wait to detangle hair until POST-DC, when the hair has obtained both increased elasticity and strength.
  • Use the VERY strengthening and hydrating CurlyProverb DIY ayurvedic hair tea.
  • Do a very invigorating scalp massage during cleansing), which I believe is the mechanism by which a stylist grew my hair out long and super fast and super strong.
  • Do CurlyProverbz DIY scalp oil massages (note to self: trial bergamot oil in it).
  • Endeavor to optimize my nutrition, exercise, and water for health and hair growth.
  • Only use my super sharp professional hair scissors when searching and destroying.
Anything else you would like to share: I am trying to determine which of either a recommended cuticle-managing ACV rinse (for hipo hair) or baking soda rinse (for lowpo hair) needs to be a part of my washing and style routine, if either.

Im in too!

1. Starting pic... IMG-20180105-WA0000.jpg
2. Current Length... Neck length relaxed
3. Regimen...

Daily:
♡ Moisturise & seal
♡ Comb hair and style into a bun
♡ Sleep with scarf and bonnet

Weekly:
♡Prepoo w/ oil, massage & detangle
♡ Shampoo (sometimes oil rinse too)
♡ Apply DC/ protein treatment
♡ Rinse out with regular conditoner
♡ Moisturise w/ leave in spray or hair creme and seal with oil or serum
♡Airdry using scarf method/ blowdry with comb attachment.

Every 2.5-3 months:
♡ Relax with lye relaxer
♡ Trim if needed

Occasionally:
♡ Flat iron
♡ Do a black hair rinse
♡ Cowash when hair feels dry or to soften new growth when several weeks post.

4. What will you do to achieve your goal...
☆ Purchase a soft bonnet dryer and start DCing with heat.
☆ Try wild growth and castor oil!
☆ Continue with my reggie
☆ Not stretch relaxer for too many months.
☆ Avoid weaves and wigs - thins my hair, edges and ends. I also feel ugly and inadequate with my own hair when I take off so trying to stay away.
☆ Avoid using too many bobby pins and stop using hard boar bristle brushes.

5. Anything else you would like to share... my dream length would be MBL but I'd be happy with APL with full ends.

Thank you!

MY FIRST CHALLENGE :drunk::toocool::spinning::alcoholics:
:bdance::bouncy::clap:

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let me add my info!!!

1. Starting pic

2. Current Length

A couple inches past shoulder in the front and sides, APL in the back.

3. Regimen

I'll maintain my currently regimen of washing once a week with diluted shampoo (Silk Elements moisturizing, ORD chelating, V05 Kiwi Lime, or Nexxus Promend) and dc'ing with Fixative, Joico, Garnier masks, Nexxus (Emergencee or Kerphix) all while cornrowed under a wig.

4. What will you do to achieve your goal

Keep wigging it and moisturizing twice a day. Morning: braid spray mix. Night: s-curl.

Keep taking Viviscal and DHT blocker.

Keep up with my water and protein intake.

Use a laser brush to stimulate growth (from a trichologist).

Seal moisture with rice bran, safflower, hemp seed, and wheat germ oils.

Trim as needed.

Alternate between reconstructors and protein conditioners weekly.

5. Anything else you would like to share.

I've been seeing an acupuncturist since January and he sells me these Chinese herbs to drink, which nourish my formerly dehydrated fluids and they also nourish my hair.

I'd like to do this challenge again. I think I did it about two years ago and it was a nice way to manage hair growth. Currently, I've been worried about my hair health and overall health, so having more regular length checks will be good.

1. Starting pic (coming)
2. Current Length (HL - TBL) but I will be trimming when I straighten this weekend so we'll see
3. Regimen - Weekly wash/DC/style
4. What will you do to achieve your goal - keep taking my iron supplements, monitoring my health, maintain my normal regimen. I would also like to invest in satin / silk pillow cases and scarves

I learned a LOT from watching this lady's regimen and listening to her commentary. I hope to incorporate some of her retention-causing moves. :yep:

A few take-aways for me:
  • She pre-detangles (separates, finger detangles, etc. so that when it's time to detangle with her wide tooth comb, it's much, much less damaging and much less time consuming).
  • She washes in twists.
  • She said that in detangling, her goal is NOT tangle-free hair. That would be fighting her hair's nature. She accepts that her hair will always have tangles. Wow. :yep: Super helpful.
  • She said that she moisturizes every other day DESPITE THE FACT THAT HER HAIR IS NOT YET DRY-FEELING. This because she doesn't want to wait until her hair feels dry to moisturize! Wow! Makes so much sense to me when I hear it aloud, but I had been moisturizing ONCE my hair felt dry. My reasoning: "Oh, my hair still feels moisturized? No need for more moisture, then." But her logic of simply moisturizing every other day -- regardless -- so as to never have to chase after moisture, makes so. much. sense.
  • She bands to dry the hair, THEN twists. Interesting.
  • She untwists to apply her protein treatment and then retwists, but she does NOT later untwist to apply her moisturizing DC but instead simply applies that DC on TOP of her twists. INTERESTING! Less manipulation, I guess??? My strategy will be slightly different but have the same aim: I will add Green Beauty Protein to my moisturizing DC so that I deep treat JUST ONCE. Thus, I'll go ahead and untwist and retwist for that (one) deep treatment.
