Roller setting has always been my favorite way to stretch my hair. I'm shooting for setting twice a month, but will be satisfied with once a month due to my length and the time it takes to set these days.

Current hair length: SL

Relaxed/Natural/Texlaxed/Loc'd: Natural

Current Setting method and styling choices: Set to stretch, then french roll

Current Setting products: The same products I currently use to M&S my hair (Keravada Caramel Soufflé, Oyin Hair Dew, CP oil, CP tea rinse).

How long have you been setting? I am a beginner. I have never rollerset on a regular basis. I have tried and failed with magnetic rollers.

Thing(s) you would like to work on/are hoping to achieve: My goal is to make roller setting a part of my regimen. It will be my way of wearing my hair somewhat straight without direct heat from a blow dryer and flat iron. I just purchased the hourglass rollers, do I can attempt to get the straightest set possible.

How often do you plan to set?: Monthly

Post a beginning picture (encouraged but not required)

Holding my spot. There isn't any reason I can't do this once a month. I need to get off my behind
Tell us about your setting method, setting products and your technique.

I'm all over the place when it comes to setting. I switch between curlformers and magnetic rollers depending on how I feel. I get great results with curlformers but I hate installing them. I need to practice my magnetic roller install.

My hair turns out better when I use something water or a very diluted leave-in to set. I have found that my ends turn out better when I use a serum on them which keeps them from drying out.

I'm still pretty slow. It takes me 1 hour to set and 1 hour and 15 minutes under the dryer.

I want to practice using perm rods and flexi rods sometime this year.

I will be setting weekly. Maybe every 2 weeks if I get super busy.

I use large perm rods (blue) and just bought a Lot more so my sets can be smoother. I bun after setting so I use heavy moisturizing products and I set on nearly dry hair.

This plus daily ayurvedic oiling should push me at least to WL by year's end.

It feels so good to have graduated from lurking to participating. :)

Sticking with the hourglass rollers biweekly. Products I use while setting: Jane Carter style smoother, Carol's Daughter hair milk setting foam, and the newest addition is Mane Choice split end serum.

I'm in this thang!

I really, really, really want to start setting every 2 weeks to keep my hair stretched. I have French bouffant rollers and hourglass. I prefer the latter but it is quicker to set with the former. My leave-ins of preference are the TGIN green tea leave-in, Jessicurl Too Shea, or SSI coco cream leave-in.

@AgeinATL I haven't used my French rollers in a long time. I just find myself not reaching for them. I need to pull them out soon and dust them off!

You know, I don't reach for them as much either. I definitely prefer my hourglass rollers because they are gentler on my hair. I get some breakage from the FB rollers because my coils get caught in the springs.

The hourglass rollers are my favorite at the moment as well. Especially since my hair does not have to be soaking wet to get smooth results. I like that I can wash and airdry a bit before setting with them. This decreases drying time once they are in. With little ones I find I have to do my hair in segments, so the hourglass rollers work really well with my lifestyle. LOL

I’m joining.
I just trimmed my jacked up broken section of my hair, and tried to see what was the biggest roller size I could use.
I will be using Keracare products such as the leave-in Creme, conditioning wrap foam lotion, and Fantasia ic heat protectant serum. Now I need to either buy some bottled water to put in a spray bottle, or buy a filter for the kitchen sink.
I would like to set my hair every 5-7 Days.

Why not buy a Brita or zero pitcher.

I have a Brita, but it stays in the frig. I believe the facet filter is cheaper than the pitcher. I was in the hardware store and were pricing them. But I was watching videos and some stated it doesn’t remove enough like the shower filters do.. I don’t know at this point.

The facet filters are cheaper but my experience is that they reduce the water flow so much I end up having to remove it after a few months. When I'm trying to wash dishes I don't have all day to wait for water. Check Amazon and compare some of them so you don't end up with a dud.

If you already have a Brita in the fridge, then just fill the water bottle with that once a week so it's ready when you need it. No need to get an entire filter for just the water bottle. Or you can use the brita to fill up a 32 oz mason jar or container with filtered water and use that to fill your water bottle when you need it. Keep it simple and free.

Good idea! Thanks!

Set today using my hourglass rollers. The only product I used was Jane Carter's leave in spray.

Moisturized then put it in a French braid. Glad I don't have to be bothered with my hair for the next 2 weeks.

Are hourglass rollers worth the money? It seems no one has them on sale and the lowest price I found was $29.10 for 12 rollers and 12 pins.

I think they are worth the investment, but that's coming from someone who is a regular roller setter. For someone who only sets every now and again...IDK if they would be worth it. Magnetic rollers would be a cheaper option. I used those for over 10 years before I moved on to other rollers, and still pull them out ever so often.

If you plan on purchasing the hourglass rollers, I don't think you need the pins. I use the metal clips that you would use with regular magnetic rollers. When I purchased mine, I grabbed 3 packs of the pink 1.65 inches for $19.99 each from longing4length, but could have just grabbed 2 packs and that would have been more than enough.
