Your Holy Grail Deep Conditioner???

Yeah, none of Straight Request products have ingredients, but I promise they are the best. It's crazy that I'm still a bit of an ingredient snob and use these products lol. But that Fixative should be a cult favorite for real.

Sigh. :look: *adds Straight Request to the list of products to try IF I can determine what's in them, and only once stash has reduced dramatically *

So what all did you use from the line when you had your great increase in health and length? TIA!

Pathenol is Vitamin B5 and I hadn't heard anything negative about it.

TBH, I think good and bad is relative and really depends on what goal you're trying to achieve at any given moment. If people really wanted to be "true" to the whole good and bad thing, they'd probably be a non-soy consuming vegan who wouldn't eat most veggies (even "organic" ones) because they're most likely GMO.

I'm not familiar with ingredients as most of the ladies here. But upon waking up, I realized I meant "Parabens". I know it's relative that's why I listed it in quotations lol

I went to see the stylist once a month. She would wash and deep condition my hair with Straight Request products (Moist Plus shampoo and Fixative Deep conditioner) then cornrow my hair under my wig. I was doing an HSN (Country Life), MSM (Opti from Vitacost), Super B liquid vitamin and a couple of other things (except biotin, I had taken a break from it). I washed my hair a few times a week in between going to see the stylist. I also used a topical growth aid, IIRC. During this time I was keeping it easy because my hair had grown to BSL but one side wasn't as full and it was shedding a lot, which is why I wigged it and noticed the improvement from Straight Request. My hair ended up being between MBL and WL. This was over a six or seven month period, from May to Nov/Dec a few years ago.

Thank you !!

Ope!!! I'm out, then. Breast cancer--I have to take special care to avoid it. As soon as my one bottle of Netwurks spray is used up, I'm back to being paraben-free.

Thanks for taking the time to share the correction.

Oh no Hunn. I was confusing panthenols with parabens. I don't think the product has parabens in it.

Then again, it's no telling if it does either.

I use the Fixative conditioner(very moisturized hair for days), Strength 1000(heavy protein treatment). They also have a cowash conditioner that lathers called Power K77.

How can a vendor sell products without an ingredient list? Isn't that illegal?

I don't believe it's illegal, but I understand people who have allergies or want to avoid certain ingredients may want to know what's in a product. I haven't had any problems with them though.

Here's what's on the container:

A deep penetrating stimulating conditioner with African shea butter and panthenol.

  • adds slip to hair shaft
  • leaves hair soft and shiny
  • instant moisturizing
  • penetrates quickly
  • repairs damaged hair
  • smooths cuticle
  • stimulates scalp
Straight Request Fixative is a deep and quick penetrating conditioner designed especially for dry, hard hair. Enriched with moisture, natural oils, and butter smooth slip, Fixative conditioner gives hair excellent sheen and a healthy looking finish.

Thanks for the packaging info. At best, selling products without revealing their constituent parts is naive or misguided and, at worse, a health risk and/or fraud. If it's not illegal, it should be and the information contained in the link below leads me to believe that it may very well be. At any rate, I wouldn't feel comfortable using an anonymous product; no one should.

Welp! I've been using it for seven years and haven't had a problem. I know that some other Straight Request products have the products listed.

If one is that concerned, then call them and inquire about the ingredients. I'll continue to put my energy over my conditioner and know that it'll do what I need it to do for me.

I keep telling people. I've been relaxer-free for 21 years and this is the best deep conditioner I've ever used. And it's black-owned!

My mom is natural and she uses it, her curls are shiny and popping.

No, I read you what was on the container that I retrieved from my bathroom.

That is all that was listed. I've purchased this several times from distributors, stylists and black-owned BSS like Powell's Beauty.

Thanks. Yes, I saw that when I had gone to the company site. I thought you had a jar and could tell us. Only your stylist had it, I'm guessing. Thanks, anyway. Glad you got such growth!

Snark? I was simply stating a fact about products I use. Didn't realize saying that I bless products I purchased with my own energy would be taken so offensively. Next time you should take your own advice about being snarky. It may go over better than responding with a gif, which could be taken any type of way. :)

And I used the word "b.i.s.h" and not "b.i.t.c.h," which I didn't realize was considered obscene.

But you enjoy the rest of your Tuesday.

To be clear, I have no interest in what you do or what products you opt to use. I merely proffered my opinions regarding that product line's lack of ingredient listings for their inventory. The snark and obscenities were unnecessary.

I have made a huge discovery regarding technique and deep conditioning:

If I apply the DC to dry (not even damp hair) like a relaxer and smooth and press it into my strands (like you would with gel), then wear it for 45 minutes under heat . . . only then does any DC give me lasting moisture that remains after rinse-out.

Recently I discovered that using the SM Manuka Honey Masque or the Soultanicals Afrotastic DC this way yields incredible moisture for my hair. Silky, hydrated, moisturized hair. I'm shocked and elated.

This technique seems interesting. I am going to give it a try. Do you have low porosity hair ?

Hair type:4b/4c, Low Poreosity, normal density

My favorite dc is a mix of 3 conditioners...have been using it for the past 7 months and im hooked. I mix shea moisture manuka dc with tresemee moisture rich conditioner and Neutrogena triple moisture daily deep conditioner and sit under the dryer for 20-30 min. My hair craves moisture and my hair is soft and bouncy after this deep conditon..

Straight Request Fixative Deep Conditioner.
http://www.straightrequestproducts.com/fixative

It really helped turn my coils around a few years back. I was shedding heavily and a stylist recommended this. She did mostly relaxed heads but I would go to her to monthly for a wash, deep conditioning and cornrows under my wig. Helped my hair thicken up and go from BSL to within WL in a few months. I love their products and their sulfate-free shampoo is very good too.

Do you know if this product works for low porosity hair???

Thank you ladies for sharing all your faves, please keep them coming!

So, I know I said me and Shea Moisture haven't been cool in the past...but I just tried the JBCO Strength Grow and Restore Leave In and it is literally everrrything to me, I <3 it - I was so surprised I liked it so much. My hair is soft & defined. It makes me want to try the rest of the line, particularly the DC. A few of you lovelies also had it on your lists too, so I'll be picking it up tomorrow evening.
Their JBCO DC is my all time favorite DC. I hope you like it.

I colored my hair. I believed in was low porosity until I went red running from this Gray, white and silver Christmas tree tinsel looking hair. My porosity may have changed with this color. Just saying.
