Repairing And Growing The Crown Area 2018 Support Thread

Hello Ladies! Happy holidays! I just want to make a comment. I decided to do some scalp treatments with aloe vera gel. I remember @Chicoro recommending its use in Grow it! But I had never done so.

I have been purchasing aloe Vera leaves every time I did a take down. I did sew ins in 2016 without the best growth results and I went back to cornrows after the summer of 2017. The weave was hot. I cut the leaf in small groups-3 inches or so wide and proceeded to apply it to my scalp and hair. I would then apply deep conditioner on top. I used a plastic cap and went under the dryer for 20 to 30 minutes. I would rinse this out and do another deep conditioning treatment and put oil on top. The rinsing would be extensive to remove the aloe pieces. I would go back in my 2 layer conrows. I got busy and they remained in for 6 weeks when i visually do I to 4 weeks. When I took it down my crown had really grown. I was shocked. No pics because,it is 100% natural and there is no way I could straighten it on my own. I just wanted to suggest pure and fresh aloe Vera gel as a scalp treatment. I believe it removed scalp and follicle debris which resulted in a growth spurt. Comments?:rocker:

My crown area has straight up breakage from stylist error!!! It's about 2.5 inches long there. I will not be getting any more Wave Nouveaus or Wave By Designs. I will keep using the products for curls that add moisture. Hardcore protein treatment will be used once every 4-5 weeks. I have to or more hair goes down the drain. I shampoo 2 times in a week and deep condition alternating moisture and milder proteins. I use light oils on my hair and scalp, except for my broken hairline which needs a butter. I do wrap my hair at night as well.

Take pics so you can see where you are at! Take monthly pics of your progress and let’s get some hair diaries started as well!
Write down what you used, what you did, and how your hair felt that day. Also, write down how much water you consumed, what you ate, and did you take your vitamins.

@shortdub78 for the first time since I was a teen, I'm fighting back tears.

I just took a picture of my nape. Girl, it's bad, really bad. :(

I wish I could blame relaxers or products, but that's not true. I really neglected my hair and paid the price.

However, I'm glad you suggested taking a picture. I can clearly see little sprigs of hair back there. I'll concentrate on making that new hair the strongest ever! :)

Oh I had my moment as well. That’s why I decided to go to a stylist, but that didn’t work out, so I’m on a mission to overcome this on my own!

Sorry to hear this. You will recover, and as you say the hair will be stronger and better than ever. :yep:

I'm right there with you!!! I question every day whether I should wear a wig. My curl that I got 2 weeks ago looks straight, like a relaxer!!!! My hairline is awful and so is the nape of my neck. Regardless of how the damage happens, your self-esteem takes a hit. We'll get our hair back to health.

I had the same experience. Can't find a good stylist here for nothing. I have to revive my hair on my own too.
It could easily go and get a fade and be done with it. Why would I sit in a stylist chair and pay an unreasonable amount of money for her to do that, instead of pay $20 and go to the barber? I understand if she felt my hair was damaged beyond repair, or she wasn’t up for the challenge, but she didn’t even really look at it.

I will do a deep moisturizing conditioning session this evening. I will try the tension method on cool and will bun my hair. I have been using a scrunchie and not hair clips, or combs.

The Oil makes my hair feel crispy after awhile, so that’s why I need to add some moisture. Spraying something on wont cut it..

I will try my best not to compare my hair to others, or feel down about my hair. I just have to work with what I have and do my best to retain.
I think I will go back to Manetabolism vits. I like gummies, but I don’t want that sugar on my teeth.
I’m going to try Rogaine as well.

I ended air drying my hair, but allowed it to completely dry under my scarf. I gave myself a good trim and I trimmed my crown area.

I didn’t Oil my scalp. I needed it to breathe.

Are you really going to use that? I'm sure you're aware that once you use their products you are 'locked in' and you have to use it for the rest of your days. I know Rogaine isn't cheap either. To me Rogaine is a very serious 'tried everything else' solution.

I don’t have female pattern baldness, or Alopecia Areata, and my hair follicles aren’t totally destroyed, so I won’t have that experience you are describing. I also have a very significant amount of hair loss. I’m not dealing with just a patch. And the other route would be getting injections, and taking medication. So yes I may go ahead and try this. It’s not an impulsive decision. And as far as cost, I’m a product junkie, so I’m good on that! Lol

Sorry I didn’t realise the extent of the problem. Well if anyone can deal and recover from this you can :bighug:

Ladies make sure we get those hair journals! We need to keep track of what we are doing! This is a crazy winter, but we will get through it!
Also, everybody should start off with a nice trim. Nicely trimmed hair will keep you motivated to do better and keep those ends healthy!

Make sure you are drinking that water!

Have you done a scalp massage today?

So there we are. :nono: I'm taking better care of my hair overall and sealing that area in particular, so, hopefully I see some growth and retention. But at this point.... I'ma try though.
Hey! You are in good company!
Just isolate that area when dealing with your hair.
I just went in the bathroom and chopped off 2 inches! I might have cut 3-3 1/2 inches of hair total within a month. I gave my crown a good trim so now you can clearly see my bald spots! I don’t care at this point. I was able to comb through my hair! The bleached ends (still some light brown there), on top of them demi perm color made my hair so porous. I’m glad I butchered my hair instead of letting a stylist do it! Lol
I have about an inch of new growth, so I’m not too bothered about the hair that got cut. It is gonna take me longer to get to BSL, but that’s ok. I’m probably right at the APL line again.

I wanna cut off more, but I tend to get a little scissor happy :look: (which is how I ended up with a tapered cut last time, lol). But I'd like to cut off another inch within the month. I just can't take the raggedy ness. I'll cut it off til it act right. :look:

Oh, and I'm gonna start using henna to strengthen it up. I'm easing my way in with a henna gloss this Fri (now that I have a decent dc, another trial, lol).

Yeah don’t be scissor happy like me! Lol Just snip here and there! I was about to cut my hair into a bob and have a stylist clean it up! Lol I had a moment like that before, but I stopped myself. I’m not giving in this time!
I don’t think I would do well with Henna. I think I would make a big mess! I applaud ladies that have no trouble mixing and applying!

That's what I'm saying. The urge is strong, girl, you hear me?! I've always been like this. Relaxed, I believe I cut my hair into a bob every year, grew it back to APL-ish, and cut it all off again. Like ten years in a row. (because of this crown :wallbash:)

I prefer diy and I use clay all the time. I'm not expecting too much of a difference (but I will put down some newspaper or something).

So...

I talked to my acupuncturist. She looked at my pictures and worked out a plan to improve blood flow to my scalp and work on reversing the hair loss. She noted that I didn't have broken hairs, so it was clearly hairs coming out from root to end.

I am definitely trying this for 2018.

Wow! I hope you get great results from this! Great alternative!
