Youtube Broke My Hair!! Devastating Set Back

I'm not sure that I understand the rationale behind letting anyone down. I'll have to try to watch a part of this video. Did she lie and say the product was great and get found out?

There are others who have had setbacks and they roll with it and move on. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Napptutal85 when she coloured het hair and it didn't agree with her. I don't remember a 25 minute long vid about the setback but I could be wrong.
A lot of people had setbacks and dealt with it off camera. When they finally regroup, they record, or never tell us. Setbacks are so not good in any aspect of life, and everyone handles things differently. I usually cut my hair all off because that’s just my personality about everything in life! Lol but I’m learning to work through my setbacks. There are not so good days, but I work through them.

What I don’t like is attention seekers, or people who do and say things for clicks. She was deceptive in her hair practices for clicks and likes and now she got burned for it. Lesson learned I hope. Trying to appear a certain way for Youtube will get you exposed.

This is why I always prepoo...espcially after wearing twist/twist out. I wouldn’t dare just jump in the shower and commence to shampooing my hair without properly prepooing. But she said she has really strong hair, I have fine fragile hair that can’t take a lot and requires extra steps.

Absolutely. I wouldn't even bother attempt to shampoo without pre pooing first, it has become a must have step for me.

I don’t believe a successful YouTuber can try out every suggested/sponsored product and technique while growing out their hair. The inconsistency just isn’t conducive to healthy hair growth.

If I ever started vlogging I’d have the most boring account ever. Videos of the basics, regimen, and products, then all length checks.

Ok so the girl said the each of thr 2 strands from the 2-strand twists were tangled and matted from the root after it dried? That makes me agree that her hair was not sufficiently detangled.

I got high porosity hair that balls up to a single mat with just about every shampoo on every wash day. Especially if it aint
oil detangled first. But I'm used to it so know how to deal with it and stopped freaking out forever ago.

I get her dismay but must also agree with the ladies who say her panic is what did her in.

Anyway this a great reminder to get the sheds out regularly.

I agree. There is one person that is so boring. She tries to do different things, but the only thing that keeps people watching is her length checks. she seems boring to begin with.
I wouldn’t be getting in the shower either to show people my wash day.. lol they could watch me apply conditioner, or something.. but I would refuse to try any and everything just to be some viewer’s lab rat.

Singin’ the praises of the baggy method
If her detangling method was so bad like some of you are making it seem, she would have not been able to grow her hair that long and so thick. It does not take type 4 hair (especially 4c hair) to mat up after 6 years of bad detangling; her hair would have matted up years ago if her detangling method was so terrible.I do however agree that the products she used did not agree with her detangling method, but I do not believe that her detangling was ultimately “bad.”

It didn't, but it's a good title to get people to watch her video.
She says that YouTube broke her hair because she wanted to impress the YOUTUBE viewers by making her twists appear shining / luminous on screen. She simply just wanted to give a good presentation. And that if she had not set out to be a YOUTUBE blogger than this episode would have never happened. She's not blaming YOUTUBE per say, she's blaming herself. She had her hair for seven years and then BOOM. She only started blogging a few months ago. Imagine that.

I'm thinking that if I had suffered a setback so devastating such as hers, a "click bate" title just to get views would be the furthest thing from my mind. I don't think she was trying to reel people in. In her mind YOUTUBE BROKE HER HAIR. Her title suits how she feels. That is all.

But that is just you, other people might not think that way.

By the same token some would say that they would be much too distraught to even get on YT to highlight their distress and pain nevermind presenting people with a controversial video title.

I’m sure her motivations are sound but I’m afraid people will think that choice of title odd.

I don't think that her detangling method is bad. Besides, she uses DCs each wash day, so it was unlikely that her hair was just about to mat up. What IS bad is thinking that she is about to just add some gel to some partially detangled hair, leave it a few days, hop in the shower and do what she did to try to remedy the situation. That was a recipe for disaster. Some styles and products need THOROUGHLY detangled hair.

"controversial title" my tail. She just wanted to cry on someone's shoulder the same way anyone would run to a friend when extremely upset, hence the public post while in her feelings. "distraught" would be her breaking out in bloody tears, but she didn't.

Talk about twisting the meaning of a video... Just straight up nit-picking instead of listening and understanding.

idk. if her channl is monetized, she needs that click bait. more views, more ads, more money.

It’s controversial because rather than focus on the upsetting video content some are also wondering why she titled it as she did. YouTube is an incredibly competitive media platform so I can understand if people choose these interesting descriptors for their video titles.

Whether there was anything intentional in the message title, is neither here or there, it’s done and it’s out there.

I can be empathetic to her plight but still question it, those modes of emotions are not mutually exclusive.

I understand you.

@ the bolded I think she explained the reasoning quite well, but somehow the title became the main focus instead of the actual content.

But that’s what got people to click on her video. The title is misleading, since she started off with saying she wasn’t blaming YT.
I wonder what video she used the gel in and did she say that was the product she was using? Or was she just demonstrating how to twist a different way..

This was the video that messed her up. She is blaming herself for using Ecostyler for this particular style.

I finally watched the video. All of it. Man oh man! Although, I kept thinking her 2 year after fiasco is my 6 year progress (minus the knotting, matting, and bad ends), compared to her 6 years -- I actually gasped! I've seen some of her videos before. She's got beautiful hair and although I don't think 4c hair and gel should be uttered in the same sentence let alone used together, I FEEL FOR HER!

Haha! Thanks! It's like a previous poster said...this channel will be old school boring cause I plan on showing what I actually do with my hair. Not here for trying 1001 different products.

YAY!!! Bringing the old school back! Good old fashion growing! You GO!

Please let's not let this thread die!

Yes, let this be an example for all us Kinky haired girls! TLC said it best "Don't go chasing waters falls, just stick the rivers and the lakes that you're used too" Boo!

I felt for her. I’ve been there. As in, got tired of my natural hair but rather than cut it decided to get a weave. Left the weave in for 3months then washed my hair without detangling. My hair was a MASSIVE dreadlock. I cried, them washed it again!!! Jesus! I went to my Dominican salon and she “saved” my hair, in that she detangled it, but the damage was done. I ended up cutting my bra strap length hair to neck length over the next few months.

Moral of the story: detangle, detangle, detangle. Detangling will save your hair and give you peace of mind.

I feel horrible for her, but, the saving grace is that if she grew her hair out once, she can do it again.

Or don't detangle and just let your hair did what it does naturally: she didn't need to try to achieve extra shine. She has 4c hair. (Still crying for her:cry3:)

I subscribe to her and she's posted another video about how to recover after a setback.

She doesn't mention her own setback though (at least not before I turned it off). It's more like '10 tips to recover'. I don't know whether she's trying to just put the setback 100% behind her and ignore it but it made me feel like she was less genuine than I thought.

The 'Subscribe!' thing on screen was also all in my face in the new video.

Did she really have a setback? All we saw were pictures of hair..
