Help!! Extreme Moisture Overload

20180520_221905.jpg 20180520_215439.jpg Hi all,

I did the maximum hydration method TWO YEARS ago and I'm still trying to get my hair in shape. From reading some of the threads here and learned that protein treatments can help stregthen hear. So I've been doing the aphogee two step treatment every 1-2 weeks for about 6 weeks.

My hair doesn't seem to be improving. Even the new gtoetg seems to affected by this since my hair went from chin length to collar bone length.

I really don't know what to do anymore. Just touching my hair results in dramatic clumps of hair coming out. HavH berb protective styling, but if I don't wash and detangle at least every two weeks, my hair becomes matted and starts to loc

Finger detangling also doesn't help :(

Has anyone else been able to overcome this? The pictures attached are from detangling one quarter of my hair. And this is after detangling week

First of all, I want to send a big hug your way --I'm going through a similarly distressing situation with my son's hair right now, so I understand how you must be feeling right now.

I'm not sure if your hair is breaking of falling off from the root-- different issues have different causes. Regardless, I do think that Aphogee 2 step every 1-2 weeks is too much. But you probably wouldn't have experienced moisture overload, instead, your hair would feel a bit rough and stiff.

I don't have any answers beyond that. Surely some of our wise sisters will chime in.

Hope your hair troubles are resolved soon.

You prob have severe protein overload not moisture. That was waaaayyy too much of the aphogee 2 step. It is an extremely strong protein and should only be used once every 6 or more wks. You need moisture and stat. You need to find a good moisture dc that has basically no protein in it and do prepoos overnight and dc's with heat after washing every wash until the breakage calms down. Also after applying a good leave in seal with moisturizing sealants. I use castor oil first than shea butter.

You might be right about using Aphogee to much. But this has been an issue for the past two years since I started the maximum hydration method. I only started doing protein treatments a few weeks ago. Before that I was very protein sensitive. Even using coconut oil made my hair stiff

This problem started after doing the maximum hydration method. Before that 2018, I never used protein and I've been struggling with this for 2 years. Is there anything you would recommend to stop the shedding. My hairs falling of the root and from the shaft. It also seems like my ends are a different texture from the roots of my hair. This also started after doing the hydration method

I'm sorry this happened to you. I think the ladies could be more helpful if you would give more information such as the version of mhm you used, the frequency, the products used and any adaptations. It would also be helpful to know how often you used the cherry Lola treatment or if you used it at all.

I did use the cherry lola treatment but can't remember how often. I also noticed that the hair shaft was really rough and that may have been why my hair kept tangling and matting. But I went a little crazy last night and started cutting my hair. Initially, I meant to do a small section-- cut above the matted parts, but detangling was so hard I just kept cutting. In one area I cut 12-14 inches off:cry3::cry3:

Whenever I have an overload of moisture/protein I like to clarify and start from scratch. I do an apple cider vinegar rinse to make sure my pH is balanced. If you don't want your hair to change color try Cassia. It's just like Henna but won't make your hair red and is not as strong. Also when my hair falls out a lot using Alter Ego garlic conditioner always helped to stopped the shedding/breakage. Maybe you're using something that's making your hair fall out.

I was coming to say what @NaturalEnigma said verbatim. Get a good clarifying shampoo and start over. I do think the Aphogee was a bit much so do a super moisturizing DC. Nexxus Humectress mixed with honey was always a fave. Also check your leave-in if you're using one. It may have some protein in it as well.

Sorry this happened to you. I had this happen to me in the past and it’s heart wrenching! Aphogee 2 step and Alter Ego Conditioner helped. Haven’t tried it yet but I heard Coffee or Tea Rinses help.

I'm sorry this is happening. It's so frustrating when the hair just wants to leave your head. For me, black tea rinses helped minimize shedding. I don't know much about the maximum hydration method but you may need some protein. The aphogee might be too strong or the wrong kind. I tried it and it didn't work for me. Aubrey GPB worked well for me at that time. Adding ceramide oils also helped (wheat germ or grapeseed...there are others too). At that time, I stopped wng for a while. I would dry in a few braids under the dryer just to lower the manipulation.

Good luck to you.

ITA with starting fresh. Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo works wonderfully to restart hair.

I would follow it with a MILD protein tx. “Mild” is different for each head but ORS Replenishing condish, Reconstructors like Aphogee 2 minute or even plain, full fat yogurt can be mild txs. You can likely get away with doing a mild protein weekly but that 2 step is a strong protein for most ladies and is done once monthly or even quarterly.

Follow the protein with your favorite moisturizing DC. Then put your hair in a low maintenance style, like twists for at least a week. GL to you! I understand how frustrating it can be when hair starts responding weirdly.
