First Cut In Years, And Looking For Growth Tips!

Hey everyone!
After years of not cutting, I decided to chop off many inches of thinning hair from the bottom (yesterday!!). It looks and feels healthier already.

I want to grow it out "healthily", but I am feeling a bit "lost". I used to take biotin and use tea-tree oil or olive oil on my tips to help facilitate growth. That was YEARS ago. I currently just keep my hair conditioned using Aussie moist every morning. That seems to help with length maintenance, but do nothing else aside from that. I have NEVER permed or relaxed/texturized my hair, but I do flat iron from time to time! ?

I would love some advice (product recs?!) on how to keep my hair moisturized and protected. I can't find ANYBODY with hair similar to mine. It is very coarse, dry and thick, and the curls are loose-ish. My hair has a bunch of different curl patterns in different areas, which makes it difficult at times!

Last thing... the hair at the very front near my face is always a lot fuzzier and less defined than the rest of my hair. Is that normal?

pics below pre / post chop, if it helps!

Can't wait to chat!

@ms.blue I would love to learn some easy (5-10 minute) protective braided or twisted styles!! I don't want to add anything to my hair (weave/wig/ extensions, etc), because I'm *worried* about pulling/breakage/too much friction, and also hairline receding!

I'm lost when it comes to styling. Completely lost!! I just wash and go everyday, and clump in whatever thick greasy moisturizer I can find lying around (usually Aussie)

We love WnGs. But give it up for now. Protect your ends as much as possible. Buns are great, or you can do cornrows, plaits, twists, whatever you choose. I do a plaited bun and keep it that way for a week until wash day. Your hair is beautiful btw. But, you have to keep the ends protected so they wont thin. Deep condition weekly or bi-weekly and protect again for a few days. As you get into keeping your hair in a protective style over long periods of time, you suddenly realize the hair is getting longer and fuller. Another tip is detangling tools, use them at a minimum. If you can finger detangle, do so!

I Am So Blessed

I'm easy going.
Woo-wee! Your hair is the bomb! I love it!

Yes, to what the others said. Chunky twists pinned together in an updo or bun is the best. I know if you had protective styled, you wouldn't have had to cut it. I PS 100% and my ends are almost perfect, I don't trim often.

Save all the growth you possibly can on that gorgeous mane of yours.

To your question: it is normal for the front of the hair to be looser. Mines is the same way. I've seen this on other's hair.

Keep it simple. Please don't become a product junkie. Your hair is beautiful so whatever you are doing now seems to be working. Don't wait years to cut off split ends. You seem to be taking good care of your hair so a once a year trim should be sufficient. Start with simple things like olive oil, coconut oil, once per week deep condition treatments. I wash my hair daily and my normally dry hair is very moisturized, strong and retaining length.

As long as you trim when your ends get bad, I don't consider it a must to protective style to retain length. A 1/4 inch -1/2 inch trim is good for when you need one. Depending on your hair, you may need a trim frequently or not frequently at all, so the key is paying attention to your hair. Also, find staple products that you really like and stick with those. You have wonderful hair btw. Just keep it simple.
