Damp/wet Bunning Challenge 2018

I figured there should be a Challenge for those that want to implement damp Bunning for length retention.

Perhaps it can be broken up into chunks to suit everyone’s needs.

•1 month
•2 Months
• 3 Months
•3-4 Months
• the rest of 2018

*Rules*
•The rules are not very strict
• try to damp bun at least 1 time out of the week
• buns or loose braids would probably be the best style of choice
• dampness of hair depends on individual needs
•make sure your hair is in good standing to participate
•Hair does not have to be wet 24/7, or for long periods of time.
•However you choose to dampen your hair is fine

*Pointers*
Keep on top of your protein treatments. It’s very easy for your hair to become overly moisturized and lose it’s integrity and stretch until it breaks. Espeacially the ends.
loose styles/buns would be the best to choose
•protect those ends
•Try to mitigate how much you manipulate your hair
•be comfortable with a very basic look
•Have fun
•If the Challenge is not doing your hair any good, PLEASE, do what’s best for yourself and your hair, even if that means stopping the challange.

I will be doing this Challenge for the rest of 2018. So a few of my other challenges will probably be put on hold for a bit.

I tend to wet bun more so than I damp bun, and I re-wet or re-dampen every 3 days or so.

In the past I’ve done damp Bunning for well into 2 years with very good success. I’ll keep the protein frequency rather high, and opt for a protein leave-in instead of an all out protein treatment.

This is literally all I do, so I'm in! - The rest of 2018.

Oddly enough, my hair does not get over-moisturized. It might be because I use gel and oil to combat the moisture, but I don't have much protein in my regimen. I previously used henna once a month, but will be looking for a replacement now that I've used permanent dye.

My current regimen (that I will continue):
Cowash daily
Wring out excess water, apply moisturizer and oil, allow to air dry while I get dressed (ETA: My hair is DAMP when I bun, it is never WET as it will drip down my neck for the next 3 weeks)
Apply gel and gently brush back into ponytail; add donut and place satin/velvet scrunchy over
Shampoo and DC 1x weekly

I've recently started strictly cutting down on my hair tools. I use a wooden bristle brush on the top of my hair, followed by a BHB. I only use my fingers towards the end, so that I'm not brushing through all of my hair on a daily basis. My bun is totally not 'on fleek' due to this, but it's better for my hair.

I'll post pics of my donut buns here in the future - time to get more velvet scrunchies!!!

Current 2018 progress:

My next length check is in September, but I might hold off until December (I want to straighten my hair as little as possible and just let it do its thing!)

I don't wet bun, but I wet almost every night, apply a little avocado oil and some CC Natural's moisturizer and flat twist. I get a good twist out every day. Does this count?

The rules are very loose, so I’d say it counts.

I think I should’ve elaborated a bit, but the main goal is just have your hair damp in some way, and rather frequently

How funny! I was just looking up wet bunning earlier this evening. I'm in!

I plan to damp bun through November then perhaps go back to wet sets.

I am going to plan my regimen. I've been keeping my hair straight for the past month, but summer is not a good time for straight hair. I'll post what I come up with tomorrow.

At the start of BSL! Patiently waiting for full❤️

I've been doing this for a few months with great results. I wet my ends and seal with Olive oil and rosemary or Vatika oil. I've gotten good length by doing this.

I really want to bun but my hair doesn't like fabric pony tail holders. I essentially bunned the last 5 years and did not grow an inch. I'm researching how to safely bun. Plus my edges are struggling, so buns typically don't look good. Does any one have advice or good resources?

Can I ask how long your hair was at the time?

And how tightly you made your ponytails?

At the longest my hair is Apl but the shortest is to the nape.
I have used goody ouchless hair bands and I wrap it around twice.

Have you tried doing something similar to one big Bantu knot?

I feel like you have hair long enough for it stay, and then put a medium scrunching over it. You don’t have to loop it twice, just enough to where it keeps the ends tucked in so the bun stays.

I make one twisted Bantu knot bun towards the top of my head, and put a scrunchie on just so the ends stay tucked.

Try to get the bun loose, but secure enough so that it stays that way there isn’t much tension on your edges and nape. You can also opt for satin headbands to keep your hair back without stressing the edges.

If Bunning is still causing issues you try for some sort of tuck, that’s secured however way you want. Or do a damp braid instead and keep the ends of the braid protected.

Friday bun. I was so tired and my halo was not cooperating one bit.

I bought my old time fave TIGI wax stick... I hope it helps with my fly aways. I like doing the last bun because it's least maintenance, but my halo makes it look a lil rough for work. I can get away with it since Friday is jeans/polo day, but for the rest of the week I like to try at least a little bit.

I'm back to wet bunning. Really thought I'd be doing something else by now, but it's still so warm and it's the easiest thing for me to do. Next week is supposed to cool down, though. Hmmm.

I’ve also kind of kind ventured off into other stuff. I still damp bun usually once a week. And it’s usually because I’m running late for class. Always happens on a Monday too lol
