Aren’t You Guys Tired Of It?

I know I am. All these bandwagons. Maybe it’s my age or maybe I’ve been on a beauty journey for so long I’m stuck in my ways. But all I see is rice water this and collagen that. I have no interest whatsoever to care what they do or to look up their benefits. I don’t feel like fermenting my rice even though I soak my rice anyway. I don’t feel like figuring out how to incorporate collagen powder into my diet. Or whatever else band wagon people are on these days. My regimen is my regimen and my staple products are my staple products. Period.

Does anyone else feel like this?

I prefer simplicity. As a result I’m whittling things down to the basics. My hair has been doing really well since I stopped using 57 step processes. Turns out a clean scalp and conditioner is all my hair wants. My body wants me to stop giving it a crap ton of carbs. My skin wants moisture. Thats it.

Yes!! I’m all all about simplicity and minimalism
All this extra stuff is for the newbies. They’ll learn once they experience a set back

I think everyone has fallen for the okie doke at some point in their journey so I try not to be too judgmental of the new crowd (though I do judge at times lol). On the flip side, really tired of everyone claiming everything under the sun makes your hair grow. I swear every youtube video has "for growth" attached to the title these days. They know it gets views.

I've been over it! The bandwagon's are tolerable when you begin your healthy hair journey. It's trial and error to see what works. After a while and a few setbacks, you notice most of the bandwagons are a bunch of malarkey. They're either too much of a good thing, too much of a bad thing, or just plain useless.
I do have to admit...I found my holy grails out of some of those bandwagons (aloe vera juice, Shea butter, ayurvedic powders).

@water_n_oil Or MEGA Growth, AMAZING Growth; buy these magical powders and oils for an exorbitant fee plus free shipping. Link below. lol

@shelli4018 I enjoy simplicity too. My hair is much better for it.

Naw, I’m not really tired of it. I don’t mind the bandwagons because I get bored easily, so sometimes they offer something new and interesting to try or watch other people trying. Is it necessary to grow and maintain healthy hair? No. But it can be entertaining.

The only time I get annoyed is when I feel like something is or has been turned into pure gimmick. Like Chebe. :look:

I get bored quick too. So if I ever do fall onto a bandwagon I fall off just as fast lol.

As long as I keep up my core routine, pre poo, wash, DC, protein (as needed), M&S, that's all I need.

I'll only do something outside of the core routine, if it's not that uncomfortable for me to do (like tolerating anything smelly) :nono: no those days are long gone.

Sometimes. While I'm not about fermenting rice by myself I did buy a product already made.

Spoiler alert: I don't think its working lol.

So sometimes I'll try stuff out. Most of the time I won't. I already know certain stuff is pure gimmick. Sometimes the sale was too good to pass up.

I've jumped on a bandwagon or 2(or 10:look:) in my day so I don't begrudge newbies for doing it. I just don't understand why they want to do so much extra work. I mean, I don't mind buying an extra product but all the stuff you have to do to make rice water for such minimal results seems wasteful to me. Not to mention, I'd rather use the rice water to make horchata.

I'm getting like this with hair products and Mascara, mainly because I'm so sick-n-tired of my holy grail products being discontinued or changed. At this point I'm out of HG's and if I venture out it's with a trial/travel sized item. Other than that I'm on my way back to the basics, example:

Body moisturizer? Olive Oil or Grape seed oil, Shea or Coco Butter
Oil pre-cleanse? Same
Hair Nourishment? Same....with what ever cheapee conditioner that smells good
Toothpaste? Sometimes Baking Soda & Hydrogen Peroxide (especially when traveling)
Facial Scrub? Same (- Hydrogen Peroxide) (especially when traveling)
Facial Moisture: Aloe Vera Gel; Grape seed oil

Natural hair curler: WetLine Gel; Aloe Vera Gel; LA Looks Wet Look Gel.

These don't change too much :artist:

I feel you.

Half of everything that’s beginning to become popular I had been doing for years already. Not consistently, but I’d do a rice water treatment here and there to give my hair a bit of a pick me up.

As far as Collagen, I don’t supplement with it, because supplements do nothing for me since I have an already balanced diet, and I eat a crap ton of food for sports anyways. I use a protein treatment that has Collagen in it for my ends, but as mentioned before I had been doing it for quite a while already.

I do like to try new things, but I won’t just completely throw out tried and true products or methods for something I find interesting at the time.

Bandwagons are like waves. You may choose to ride it or nah. Some of us have been here long enough to participate in some amazing experiments. ie. sulphur, wild growth, monistat etc. Sometimes you get amazing growth and sometimes your hair breaks off and you gotta BC and start all over. The fun is in the trying!
...but yeah I'm just watching the rice water trend. I ain't got time for all a dat!!

Nope, not tired of them. Join or don't, it's really not a big deal if you're happy with your progress and the health of your hair. Plus not everyone is in the same place in their hair journey so something that's old news to one person may be a new revelation to someone else.

Nah....:nono:

I love buying/trying new things and it is a "Hobby"

I don't jump on them all, but I'll hitch a ride on the one(s) I'm interested in.

So IMHO - for me, it's no different than any other "Hobby" Sewing, Cooking, Photography, Knitting.:giggle:

With a hobby, there will always be new (gadgets, tools, spices etc.) things to buy/try new things will always be trending.

And I really love hearing/sharing what others who also think of Hair as a "Hobby" are doing/using etc....

I treat it as a "Hobby" so for me, it never gets old or boring to me.

I am. I just want a simple regimen with products that work and a backups. Things I've really liked have been discontinued so it's good to have backups to use.

That's the problem isn't it. So even if you're the most reformed PJ, woe betide you if your favourite product goes out of stock and you haven't prepared for it eg with a replacement.

I've really slowed down the buying lots of products now, but I try to have different 'favourites' for this reason.

The best thing is to learn & know your hair/skin because everyone is different..I’ve been in this game for a little while/something’s I just sit and watch on the sidelines..For me the best products that I have tried is Ayurvedic herbs including using them internally, terrific for naturally lowering my blood pressure and I make sure my Doctor is well informed..
I have enough products stocked up to last me a while, currently I’m buying a lot of skincare items...

*Currently doing the curly proverbs challenge,It covers skin, health, hair & spiritual growth..I’m only sticking with what works for me,but it’s fun watching others folks journey and progress..

••Some of the bandwagons are very bizarre and dangerous..

Well, think back on the first time that you discovered this board. You were desperately searching for some 'magic' formula/method to grow or retain your hair. Most of us had no clue as to what our hair type was, what products were good/bad for our hair or what a regime should look like. If someone told you that coffee grounds mixed with sulfur and unicorn farts gave you 3 inches of growth in a month, some of us would have probably tried it.

I give the newbies a pass. There is so much information to absorb, so much to learn about your hair. They are learning and will learn what their hair type is and what products are best to use. You want to try everything to start growing your hair and it takes a while to see that no, that particular product doesn't work for me, but this one does. As the newbies grow in knowledge, their routines often become simpler.

Some of the bandwagons are interesting. It's always good to learn about new products in case your holy grail products become discontinued or change ingredients. As an 'oldster' you can look at some of the bandwagons and know that some of the trends are too time consuming or won't work. I let people discover that on their own.

Curly Proverbs is how I got started, along with LHCF, on using Ayurvedic herbs. Ayurvedic herbs, carrier oils, essential oils, Shea, and mango butter are my staples. Since using these items, I don’t concern myself too much with ready made products. I think this eases the tension that one can have when their staple product is discontinued.

Completely agree. I know what ingredients my hair likes and doing mostly diy means I don't have to worry about something being discontinued or changed. I also feel like the hair community has simply moved on to the next generation (and that's totally okay). Most of my favorite youtubers aren't very active anymore and the super popular ones right now are in their early 20s. I don't even watch a lot of hair videos anymore.

I’m known to hop on a bandwagon or two, i.e. castor oil, steamers, oil rinses, bagging, aryuvedic, etc. I learned a lot about my hair and it took my hair to new levels of healthy. I’ve also experienced some major setbacks too, but it’s all in the spirit of experimenting. Even as a veteran on this journey my hair falls into slumps where the tried and true methods don’t seem to be doing anything for my hair and it’s struggling to look nice or stay on my head that’s when I look for other methods or bandwagons to jump on to revive my hair.
