My wash n gos last me a solid week. I hate having wet hair and I only moisturize or add product on day one unless it gets too frizzy and then I refresh. My other issue is oil. I have not found an oil besides rose hip that does not break my skin out.

Ehh I like the look but Im also to lazy to be detangling everyday. I just shake my washngo out and be on my way lol. Maybe I could do it once a week on wash day. I had the most popping curls when I used Amla and olive rinse.

I spent forever going through his IG trying to piece this together. His regimen combines oil rinsing/washing with the techniques guys use to wave train their hair.

What he does is:

1. Rinse and detangles his hair every day in the shower. He detangles with several tools while smoothing into a style (buns, ponys, pigtails).
2. The tools he uses ranges from a rake comb, vented brush, denman brush, fine tooth combs, and a soft boar bristle brush. There really is no order to which brushes he uses. He just does what’s needed to get his hair as smooth as possible. It seems like a rake or vented brush-> denman-> boar brush is his average combo. He does not like a regular wide tooth comb because it does not smooth, but promotes frizz.
3. After his hair is completely smooth, he tops with oil and then ties is down with a satin scar to set his waves.
4. Every 3 days he does an oil rinse. He applies the oil to his hair and scalp overnight or no less than an hour before his wash. Then he co-washes the oil out. Old school co-washing with a rinse out conditioner. He then follows the above steps.
5. He washes with shampoo. I can’t tell how exactly how often, I’m estimating that he shampoos every 6-8 days. That routine is oil rinse-> shampoo-> detangle with conditioner->style. He’s just discovered cleansing conditioners, so he’s been using that in place of shampoo as his wash in his more recent videos.
6. He does not normally use any leave in or gels in his hair. Just oils and water. Recently it appears he’s been getting contacted by different brands so he’s incorporated some leave-ins and gels into the routine. But he’s big on not weighting down and overly coating the hair.
7. He does not deep condition.
8. He seems to give more credit to the daily rinsing and detangling and setting his waves, than to just oil rinsing.
9. He insists that the water temperature must be hot (not scalding) while doing all of this.

That’s all I can really recall right now. Honestly, 1/3 of what this guys says about hair is nonsense. The other 1/3 of his posts are word salads that I can barely understand. But the last 1/3 sounds like a pretty good hair regimen. I may try it out. I definitely need to detangle my hair more often, and following waving techniques to get better curl definition just makes sense to me.
Thanks for breaking this down. I plan to try some version of this.

I've been rinsing and conditioning every other day since mid January. It has helped but I could tell I had gone as far as I could go with just doing that. So I am open to trying something new. I did try a oil rinse a few weeks ago and wasn't impressed by it so didn't try it again.

So I tried this tonight since it is rinse day. So far it has been nice. I have a bottle of SM Massage oil I've been using on my ends so I just decided to use it as an oil rinse.

I put the oil on dry hair and removed some shed hair. It took a lot of oil. My hair tends to stay on the dry crispy side. I put on a plastic cap and a micro fiber cap and let it sit for a few hours. When I took it off my hair felt a lot better.

I rinsed with warm/hot water. It felt OK. My hair calmed down some, meaning it tried to lay down a bit. I added more oil to my hair and scalp and massaged it in. I then did the 3 comb smooth. I did a wide-tooth comb, a smaller comb and then a fine tooth comb and they all glided through my hair with ease. Decided to try my tangle teezer and my hair got even smoother.

I rinsed out that oil and added another layer of oil and then I followed with the conditioner. I did the 3 comb smooth again and rinsed. I didn't add a leave-in. I flat twisted my hair under running water into 4 twist. My hair was easy to twist and my ends weren't all crazy.

I put on a scarf and then put on a microfiber. My hair takes FOREVER to dry.

I didn't use a leave-in or add any oil after. I want to see what condition my hair is in in the morning, especially my ends. If my hair is manageable, I may try to do a banana clip bun in the back and a flat twist in the front. If I can do that I may try rinsing daily and doing the oil rinse/cowash every 3 days and shampooing every week to 10 days.

There isn't really anything to see because I don't have waves or curls really. But if I can improve my moisture, reduce my breakage and eliminate these splits, I'm game.

Can’t wait to hear about your results!! Right now my hair is in a strict regimen of braids/faux locs this year. Then trim every three months, so I can’t actively try his method and be consistent. However, if more people can attest to his method, I’d def wanna try it. I have 4a hair. Sometimes it looks really moisturized and other times it looks and feels dry. I want to know what’s missing. And I’d def want to try it with ceramide oils to see if that’ll enhance the results.

If this is even somewhat promising I will make up a custom oil blend to use. My hair likes being rinsed every other day. My scalp does not like going more than 2 days without water. But my hair just stays dry, dry, dry and splitting.

I hope it will dry by the morning. and that my ends stay calm enough to bun. I'm not asking for much

My hair is the same! I love wetting it frequently. I usually end up wetting mine every 3-5 days.

My hair was dry this morning but I did wet it earlier than usual. The success was my hair turned out like I had stretched it for 2 days. It didn't have that severe shrinkage issue. I could run my fingers through my hair from root to tip.

It didn't feel moisturized but it's more likely the oil I'm using which has coconut oil in it which my hair hates. But it wasn't bad.

I decided to rinse again this morning. I oiled my scalp and each section and put on a plastic cap for a while. I rinsed, added more oil and then added conditioner. I let that sit while I showered. I detangle with my wide tooth comb under running water, followed by a smaller comb, followed by my tangle tweezer.

I didn't add anything else.

My hair was smooth enough and manageable enough to twist my hair in the shower. 2 twist in the front and 2 in the back.

I'm going to do every day and every other day for a while. My scalp likes daily water. I will switch oils. I will shampoo tonight to start fresh.

I have never done oil rinses so last night was my first time. I saturated my hair with a mix of avocado oil and safflower oil. Detangle and removed shed hair with fingers. It took forever. Then I rinsed with hot water and finger detangled. Then I added more oil and rinsed again. A bit more oil and twisted up. I didn’t have the energy to comb through since I started at 10pm.

It’s still wet today and very greasy. I didn’t have a scarf to tie it down, so I have fuzz. Overall my hair is smooth though. I can’t say it’s particularly shiny. I like how my hair feels so I’ll do this again with the combs and brush next time.

If you use that much oil you may want to end with conditioner and rinse.

If you don't want to use conditioner maybe skip the oil after the rinse or do extremely light oil.

Water alone may not be enough to rinse away 3 applications of oil.

Yes I should have used conditioner afterwards. Water alone is definitely not enough!

My kinkier hair is a no go for oil rinsing & hot oil treatments. While I wouldn't 100% say something won't work without trying I personally would never try this to find out. But I use oil very sparingly as it is.
I understand your reluctance to try it. Everyone has to decide what they want to try.

I do think it can work for kinky hair for those interested. I think it depends on the head of hair. There are many factors to consider.

I was just trying this out over the weekend. But I figured if I was going to give this a real shot I needed to have a fresh start. I cleansed with Redken Cleansing Cream. I only washed once but I probably could have done twice. I used Black Castor oil this time on wet hair. I think it is a little too thick for my hair because I have a lot of shrinkage. It is hard for me to spread it through my hair. Next time I use it I will thin it with something else. I added the conditioner and let it sit while I showered.

I rinsed and combed through with my wide tooth, a smaller comb and then a Conair brush.

I'm still trying to decide a few things
1. Do I need to apply oil once or twice?
2. Should I use my fine tooth comb before the Conair brush.
3. Should I do a rinse daily or every other day?
4. Do I need a leave-in/conditioner as my last step?

Overall, my hair feels great. It is soft and extremely manageable. I can run my fingers through my hair from root to tip whether it is wet or dry. My hair is easy to twist up. I'm too scared to try to let it air dry lose. My hair loves to shrink down to 1" and just tangle on itself.

I won't rinse tomorrow to see how my hair feels if I rinse every other day.

Yeah it’s what @water_n_oil shared. That’s his IG. He explains more in his IG TV, and i think a few YTers started doin it.

The gist of it is he does a lot of oil cleansing/washing, while detangling with a series of tools under running hot water. The key is opening your cuticles, getting nutrients from the oils in your hair and training your curls. Down to the point where he can even get a fine tooth comb from root to tip with beautiful shiny curls. If you like that kinda thing. I like the fact that he can go from tightly coiled hair to a more uniformed clumped curl look. And that your hair can do both with proper training.

Me!!! I’ve tried his method a couple of times but nothing consistently. I definitely see the benefits - how it can lead to soft hydrated hair. But I do think it has to be done often so I plan to use more in the summer time when I can just walk out the house w a wet head and have the heat dry it quickly. I can also attest to the incredible benefits of using oils and how they nourish your hair.

Are y’all doing this method in the shower under running water as he says? Because 1. I be so ready to be out the shower by the time I rinse out my DC 2. Omg what does that water bill look like? 3. How would you do it not in the shower? Because I usually take a lil break after washing before styling

I don't have answers to all of your questions. But I've been rinsing every other day since January and I haven't noticed much difference in my water bill. The water is only running while I'm rinsing. While I'm apply oils and conditioners I turn the water off.

I do it in the shower for my hair but not for my daughter. Her hair gets soaking wet easily with a spray bottle. Pretty sure he lives with his parents so his water bill isn't a worry for him lol. I only wet my hair every 3-5 days and doing this method I'd probably stick to every 5. Another IGer I know who does it only does so on wash days each week.

(1) For me I don't do any oil until I'm ready to seal my hair. The detangling is the most important thing in my case.
(2) I'd do the fine tooth comb last.
(3) Depending on how long your hair takes to dry, every other day might be better.
(4) Personal preference. Keep using your leave ins if your hair likes them.

I agree I would be nervous about letting it air dry just out and down. To clarify: after final rinse detangling in the shower you are putting in 4 two strand (or flat?) twists and air drying ? What does your hair/curls look like after dry?

Yeah, I'm too nervous  Maybe at the end of the month, I may try some gel to see what it looks like.

I'm putting in 4 flat twists. My hair is in real bad shape. The front is long. The middle is short and the back is shorter still. Flat twist seem to be the only style I can wear right now.

When I take the flat twist out my hair is just straight like I blow dried it. I don't have any curls at all.

I did an amla and bhringraj pre poo this past wash day and loved it. Curls were poppin everywhere and I’ve been getting compliments since! Definitely something I’ll be incorporating from now on this gloss before or after shampoo

I’m 4b/4c and I just stocked up on my safflower oil today at 1/2 off because it’s being discontinued or something.

I have never really liked oils (olive, coconut, jojoba, grape seed, hemp seed) because they make my hair crunchy dry stiff like. So I don’t use them. My hair does like castor oil but I don’t really use it since its so thick.

Anyway, a full 24 hour day after doing the oil rinse (without the combing), I will say that sections of my hair dried smooth and soft. Much softer than I would imagine possible for me without product and air drying. Any my hair feels different.

I will be doing this again.
