HIT:

Wetline Xtreme Gel (Blue). It has great holding power plus left my hair beautifully defined.

A TINY MISS:

The only con is the lack of shine after drying but that's nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little extra virgin olive oil over the top of it. Hence this brings it right back to a hit.

Miss

Adding a butter type product to damp hair. My hair looks dull as all can be.

Tentative hit

Devacurl decadence conditioner. Nice to smooth with and detangle. Slightly fresh scent. Added moisture in.

Sort of hit

Nurcreations Fermented rice cowash

Thick and creamy. Moisturizing but borderline. Lovely lemongrass scent. Just not as good as Stunna babez

MISS: Alikay Naturals Shea Yogurt: I bought this as a replacement for Karen’s Body Beautiful Super Duper Hydrating Hair Cream which I use to flat twist my hair for a twist out. Big mistake. The scent was SO STRONG I was totally self conscious and to top it off my hair was way less shiny than usual, lacked definition, then got frizzy right away. I took that mess right back to CVS. I have Qhemet Aethiopika coming to try next. If that’s a fail it’s going right back to Sephora and I’m getting my KBB SDHHC back.

Miss:
- Triple Teasing comb. Reviews mentioned it was good for waves but no ma'am. Snagged too much. A regular rat tail comb works much better for us.
- DD1's seemingly random hives from hair products. Correlation made me think coconut oil was the culprit for a while but idk anymore.

Continued Hits
DIY Brown Rice Water: It's been 2.5 months since I started using rice water as a pre-poo and rinse. This is definitely a staple. I definitely nailed down a recipe that works for my hair!

DIY Aloe Hair Spritz: After much trial and error, I have finally nailed down an aloe vera hair spritz that works for my hair. The key for me is to use inner fillet juice and not whole leaf. In the past, I've used whole leaf and it made my hair feel like straw. I also only need 3 oz of aloe juice to 9 oz of water. I also add 4 drops of organic geranium essential oil for a nice scent!

Tentative New Hit
Fenugreek Seeds
: I added fenugreek seeds to my rice water mix this past hair wash day. It made an already amazing hair treatment absolutely phenomenal. Hopefully this wasn't a fluke and I can add this to my regimen as a permanent staple. If it's successful for 3 more washes (I like to use 4 trials of something before I consider it a staple) then I think I will have successfully completed my healthy hair regimen.

DevaCurl No Poo Cream Cleanser. The yellow top one. Has this smell I’m not extra fond of, but I’ve been using it as a daily conditioner of sorts. Not bad.

DevaCurl One Condition. Fruity kind of smell, I’m okay with it. Softens and detangles nicely.

Amazing Hit:
DevaCurl microfiber towel. Don’t know why I slept on microfiber towels for this long. No words, just......mhmmmmm.

Miss:

Mielle Organics white peony spray. Smells weird to me. Like it screws with my sinuses or something. My hair didn’t really care for it. Didn’t feel bad, didn’t feel good either.

Major miss: Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly. I’m over here thinking I’m about to have a bomb twist out, nope. This stuff is way too sticky, and heavy for my fine hair. My hair didn’t even want to come apart for me to fluff it out and style. It was crunchy and stuck together TIGHTLY. Had to wash my hair and damp bun the rest of the day. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Hated both of your misses for the same reasons. That control jelly was something awful.

ETA - Another HIT worth mentioning:

A shout out to a beautiful e-sister named @Lissa0821 for sending me this great gel to try out. Girl now because of you, I know for sure that I can purchase the blue Wetline Xtreme gel for use moving forward.

I love that fruit loop scent , I find the butter way too heavy it has Shea butter and other oils it makes my hair extremely soft but also stringy it kinds of define single strands more than clumping it all together . I don’t get that
with pure Shea .

Miss: Anything that takes wash day out of a 1hr window. Things look fun and/or interesting to try but I often end up regretting either the results or time spent. The old school regimen (aka what my mama did) of shampoo x2, condition for 5min, spray leave in, and sealant still works fine.

Hit: Generally maintaining simplicity. I cut my hair pretty significantly last July and I've gotten back to my starting length before the 1 year mark.

Hit:
Double layered ~xlarge satin bonnet - protects my hair and acts like an edge wrap.

Still Debating:
MO Mongongo Protein Free DC - a little goes a long way, does its job and my hair did feel soft for longer than my other ride or dies. Need to test again to make sure it’s not in my mind, bc immediate results weren’t wowing.

Conair GS32 Fabric Steamer - works very well and easy to use, doesn’t get ridiculously hot. I’m still debating if it has a place in my regimen

ETA: will eventually purchase another adjustable xlarge bonnet

HIT:
-As I am long & luxe strengthening shampoo: an awesome hydrating shampoo, perfect for mid-week washes.
-Mielle Organics Deep Conditioner Babassu & Mint DC: I have been trying this DC for couple weeks, and I now beleive it's a hitt! it really helps my damaged ends get some life back, I kind of hate the smell (so overpowering), but it has really helped revive the damaged parts of my hair.
-Shea moisture JBCO leave in: This is so moisturizing, and hydrating for my strands. It works so well under stylers, and it has not flaked on me once.
-Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine leave in: an old hit, I revisited it and It still works so well on wng. Lots of bounce and shine, and so much SLIP.
-Garnier Fructis curl shape gel: works so well above the s&s leave in.

MISS:
-Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie: Another revisit, I wanted to retry it with different techniques this time around, still a fail for me. My crown did not have any hold and it highlighted the frizz in my problem areas.
-Shea moisture JBCO smoothie: same as the above.
I do not think I will be trying any SM smoothies anytime soon.

edit: more misses
-As I Am leave in: left residue, and it provided zero definition.
-Aussie miracle curl pudding: did not mix well with any of my products (Mo knows hair mixing palm hand test), I applied it on it's own and it dried out the strands, such a weird product.

HIT:
Hask argan oil deep conditioner: it's a medium protein DC, it had great slip and made my strands feel bouncy and smooth. I will keep it in my DC rotation for protein.

MISS:
Shea moisture Shea butter detangler: did not have much slip for a detangler, did not provide much frizz control, muh.

Honi

There is no board.
Miss: mielle organics pomegranate and honey coil custard. I discovered my hair doesn’t like custards. It doesn’t clump my curls like wet line and was just ok. Wash n was soft and had movement The main thing I didn’t like was the stickiness. I think it may be the honey. I bought packets and not a full container. They were each below $2.00.

Mega Hit: African Pride aloe & coconut water prepoo

I was skeptical that this would outdo our HG prepoo which is MC's Halo soy milk, but it did.
My youngest has waist length, medium density 4a hair that I mostly style in WnG's every 2 weeks. This makes it easier for her to enjoy her hair without too much fuss but makes wash day a process to keep it tear free. She hates detangling sessions so I great prepoo is a must for us and for almost a year Halo has been the top dog. African Pride blew it out the water.
The slip is crazy and once applied it almost instantly detangled her hair. There are sections of her hair that like to "web" together and they were quickly tamed with application. Mind you all of this is happening on dry, shrunken hair. After application her hair was very hydrated and her curls were shiny. This made shampooing a breeze and cut her hair session down considerably.

This was a gift from a curl friend so the hunt is on to find this locally because I can't run out.
