Gel For Sleek Ponytails

Hi ladies,

I've been wearing my hair in a high sleek puff ponytail lately and I'd like to continue rocking the style. When I say sleek....I mean sleek sleek. I pile the gel on there like nobody's business..put a scarf on...and then the next day my ponytail is so smooth and laid. No fly aways. The only thing is...I'm using the Ampro Pro Style gel, which I know isn't the healthiest, but it gives me amazing hold and lasts for like a week.

Does anyone know of a healthier gel that can give me the same hold as the ampro gel? I've already tried the Mane Choice gel and it was decent. I also don't want to try Eco Styler again since it supposedly causes cancer (per all the youtube videos that were circulating last summer).

All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

I was about to say EcoStyler, until I read your full post. Whaaaaaattt? How did I miss this? I still use it weekly and will be so sad to give it up! Okay guess I need to subscribe to this thread now for new gel ideas. Sorry I’m no help at all :lachen:

Mmmmhhmmm. Last summer there was a bunch of youtube videos going around saying that the triethanolamine in Eco Styler supposedly causes cancer. I didn't do a whole bunch of research on it though...I just decided not to repurchase when I finished my jar since there are other options out there.

I like the sleek look. I use kinky curly custard, but diluted. As long as my hair dries before I remove my scarf, that slicks my ponytails (and really, all my up-dos) well for 3-5 days or until my hair requires more moisture. It would likely give more hold at full strength. The only negative for me is the price.

Thanks for this, I'm gonna try it and see how it works for me... I'm not crazy about Ampro or Ecostyle gel..

This says sprinkling glue...

How is the gel?

So when I was googling different gels to try I came across DIY flaxseed gel. I already had some flaxseeds since I use them for my smoothies so I decided to make some.

So it works and gives me the hold I'm looking for it's so slimy. Unfortunately, I had to add a little bit of my black gel to the batch to make the consistency a little thicker. I didn't add much..maybe a spoonful so that it wasn't as runny.

So I think what I'll do is use the flaxseed gel and then mix it with the products you ladies recommended.

Hey Love, sorry for delay...

I actually first started with the Ultra Glued Gel and found self using a lot... it is a translucent type feel and color, along likes of ecostyler. If I tried to use a lil daily I would get flakes and and white dry patches...

The Spiking Glue on other hand I can use half a dime size and be good to go for day, I find that it adds shine as well... good with sweat, water, etc...I generally do not even need it for second day ponytail wear, as long as I tie up...

I usually have to wash hands though cause it is sticky...
