Naturals: What do you miss most...

TrustMeLove

................
I don't miss relaxers at all. I miss straight hair. With straight hair I could add length do fake ponytails. Switch up a color with a couple fake hair pieces.
But to get these good looks it always took time.

My nappy hair..umm A little conditioner and water..I always look great. But, I do not like the knots and the tangles..and how it is sooooooo difficult to get a new different look.

Plus I pull at my tangles soo my hair isn't gaining length. I just got braids..and I am thinking about getting extensions for the next 6 months atleast.

I think I might get a a braided weave style next.

rollersets, although i do not miss the 2 hrs that i had to sit under that hot dryer everytime.

Shoot, with hair like yours, I'd be a wash and go freak. Couldn't tell me nothing. LOL

To be honest, there is not much I miss.

I'm one of those sisters that just couldn't get it right. No matter what I tried at home or who I went to, my relaxere always looked jacked up. ALWAYS.

Now I sport my twists and I am lucky then I have enough length to sport them any way I want to.

Okay, maybe the ease of combing out when I wash, but that's it.

about not being relaxed?

Going natural is a transition - just like getting relaxed. And we all love our freedom and learning about our new texture and yada yada yada - this thread ain't about that.

What about those things that you miss? I miss:

- being able to rollerset. I tried to roller set this curly mess about a month ago. I knew when I started what it was going to end up looking like - but I persisted. I even followed MaCherie's steps word for word like it was the Gospel. I was so excited an hour later after I got all 20-some-odd curlers in my head. Dried that mess. Took it out. I had BEAUTIFUL curls that stood about 3 inches from my damn head where my roots frizzed out to my natural texture HAHA. My boyfriend came in - smothered a laugh and said - "uhhh...is that the look you were going for".

- working out and not having to worry about one DRIP of moisture expanding my hair to near-blimp status. My hair loves moisture and manages to find any DRIPLET in the air.

Is there anything you ladies miss?!
Absolutely nothing lol

I don't really miss anything to be honest. I can do more, and wear my hair out more with less effort.

With my texlaxed hair all I could really do is straight or in a bun. I could do other styles but they would only last a day no matter how I tried to protect it at night.

If there was anything I could say I miss it's how long my hair was before I bc'd but that length will come back with time.

On break
  • Resistance to tangles and SSKs
  • Ease of combability
  • Preservation of strand length upon drying
But . . . I'd rather deal with the three issues above than to deal with relaxer chemicals and stringy, thin, unhealthy, damaged, requires-salon-visits hair. (I can't relax my own hair.)

I do not miss the "new growth versus old growth" struggle -- not one bit.

And . . . for me it looks like long length is achievable with natural hair. Not so with relaxed hair, from my experience for MY hair (I recognize that others can achieve great lengths with relaxed hair).

Finally, if I really wanted to, I could become a straight-haired natural and bypass the three issues above while also avoiding relaxer chemicals and stringy, thin, unhealthy, damaged, requires-salon-visits hair.

I've only been natural for a little over a month. I won't really know all the things I miss until my hair gets a little longer, but for now, I miss how easier it is to keep relaxed hair moisturized. Now, it's a never-ending pursuit of moisture and keeping it.

1. Not having to deal with SSKs.
2. I used less product when I was relaxed.
3. My relaxed hair wasn't as picky when it came to products.
4. My wash days where shorter.
5. I miss not having to plan a hairstyle around the weather forecast.

Still wouldn't put a relaxer back in my head tho.
