Hits:
Blow drying my hair. Being a straight haired natural may work for me in the long term.

Curl Dynasty LI smoothie
APB Curl pudding
Both products work great as moisturizers under my Shea concoction.

Misses:
Sirod Fenugreek DC
It was underwhelming overall. Great slip though.

Hit

Naturesego Chebe Detox Shampoo, Second time using. I like it, Bentonite clay, black soap and castile with some peppermint. slightly sudsy, cleansing but not stripping

Tentative Hit

Naturesego Fermented Black Rice Water leave in, creamy ,softening and great base to build moisture. I wouldnt use it buy itself again but it would be a nice LCO or LOC method for the leave in portion

Neither a hit or a miss

CRN Oud Moisture Treatment, I was underwhelmed, its an around the world product with basis ingredients. The oud addition doesnt seem to give it what it needed to be stellar.

Hit:

NaturelleGrow Sweet Greens- you get more out of it the longer you leave it on. It’s definitely a deep conditioner. A slight downside is that this is not a quick action DC. 10 minutes is not enough time to use this DC. You need at least 20-30 minutes.

Sirod Naturals Soapnut shampoo- I was able to massage this shampoo onto damp hair (pre-poo and workout) before hopping into the shower. My scalp and hair was clean, but not stripped. I only used it once. This shampoo does not create a lather. I think if I did a second wash my hair would have felt the same as when I use Redken Cleansing Cream; stripped but soft.

:spinning:Not a Hit or a solid Miss:
Mielle Organics Mongongo Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment

It absolutely does what it should do to help you detangle before 'pooing - but I have others I like "better"

It's not something I'd run out and re-up on unless.....it was something crazy like 60-70% .

It's a gel/oil consistency (if that makes sense, the gel consistency loosens your hair for easier detangling).

Not bad/not good - but not something I see myself repurchasing.

Y’all sit back and hold on tight now.

Ya girl saved up and went CRAZY.

Ahem, ahem. *bougie hair flip*

Runners up on the Hit List:

1.

Personally, I wasn’t all into the hype of this product. I honestly just thought it was gonna be something akin to SM type of masks. Hunty. I straight up purposefully slept on this product, and fo’ what? I haven’t actually used it as intended, but I’ve been using it as a leave in, in conjunction with my next purchase:

2.

Sis. It hits every strand. Perfect, airy, and light application of just the right amount of moisture.
Every strand?

upload_2019-8-10_1-46-56.gif

Ev-er-y. S-tr-aaaaand.
Hands down, paired with that Texture ID. You’d have to pay me to say this is not my new favorite leave-in. Texture ID hold up through this 100 degree Texas weather today. Yes Lordt!

3. Mane Choice be trying me sometimes, because I’ve spent months in the past FORCING my hair to like their various products, and this was the only one that passed the test concerning conditioners:

Will I buy this again? No. It’s 16$ at Sally’s. Ergo over half a tank of gas for my Nissan. Nah. Pantene and HE still cannot be beat for 3$ a bottle. And dare I say, Pantene has twice the amount of product, and gives me the exact same slip this one did.

4. Surprisingly I actually bought this for my husband:

and he couldn’t really get over the smell, but I liked it, and when used as a shampoo, uhh yess. I’m all about repurposing products for them to suit me the best way possible. Sorry hubby, your beard wash is now one of my shampoos.

5.

I usually stick with one clarifying shampoo, and I know this is a purple shampoo for platinum and blonde hair, but this stuff is a lot more moisturizing than I thought. Am I fond of the purple film it leaves in my tub? Nah. However it’s an even trade-off for soft my hair felt even before I put any type of conditioner on it. So new favorite clarifying shampoo? Mhmm.

Major Hits:

These Korean based products really be having me shooketh.

6. Tosowoong be killing it out here with these hair treatments. (ignore the CP-1 next to it. I didn’t buy that one, but I bought a different one.)

I also bought the Etude silk scarf serum

because of all the serums I buy, aside from this one, they act and perform EXACTLY the same, and tend to have the same type of silicones in the exact same order.

I think Etude has this serum with cyclopentasiloxane as its silicone derivative, and I must say I really like the serum, along with the hair treatment. Will buy again.

7. Kaminomoto has stolen my heart with this scalp tonic.

I will say that this particular product has Isopropyl methylphenol and B-Glycyrhetinic as its primary antibacterial ingredients. For me personally I have an unruly itchy and sweaty scalp almost daily, and this stuff really zaps the bacteria and salty deposits, but these ingredients can be drying and a bit of an irritant for those you guys with dryer scalps. Just a heads up if you’re interested in this product.

6.
I’m a ceramide fanatic for my hair because it’s one of my favorite forms of a protein/elasticity treatment.

This stuff is highly concentrated, so I’d suggest not even using half of the small injector, and cut it with whatever harder protein treatment you have. It acts more like a strong moisturizing treatment than anything else.

I love this stuff. Talk about moisture and protein balance. Uhh, that right there did it for me.

7. Of ALL. The products I bought this month. Whatever this stuff is....I just...I have no words for this LPP Treatment.

LPP= means low molecular weight. The lower the weight, the more the product can penetrate all the way into the MEDULLA. Not just the cuticles and cortex.

I have hair that has porosity that it absolutely through the roof. As quick as my hair will sop up moisture, it will lose it just as quick if not quicker. I’m not even gonna talk about the very ends of my hair because those bad boys will soak up ANYTHING. I’m talking Shea Butter and straight up hair grease. ANYTHING. If I can find the actual molecular weight for this I will edit this post and share it, because this stuff gave me moisture sent straight outta heaven y’all. And from what I can tell, I didn’t even have to seal anything the next day or re-moisturize after being outside at work for some hours because the moisture managed to get THAT deep and STAY there. I will strictly be using this as a treatment. Not mixing anything with it because this product is bomb all by itself.

*******************
NOW......

We get to the misses. Idk if I’ve just been cranky this month starting out, or if these products are just really testing a sista...or WHATEVER. But...nah...these products...just...nah.

1. First off,

I get that this shampoo is sulfate free, but you might as well have put some dish soap in the dang bottle with the amount of suds and cleansing ability this shampoo has.

I don’t know who Mr. Vernon is, but he ain’t fooling this gal.

2.
Yeah I went and bought this

I know, I know.... “Girl why would you buy that small bottle for 62$?”

Such a good question. I don’t know. Ya girl wanted to splurge. Only thing that serum boosted was my blood pressure when I went to go touch my hair after it air dried. It felt like the DOLLAR STORE stuff I usually get.

“Hold up, wait a minute, lemme put some nah they didn’t!!”

They claim on their website that this stuff has platinum in it? Uhh where it’s at tho?!?. Oh I see it, right behind God knows how much dimethicone they have in the actual formulation. Not to mention the second ingredient is Glycerin. I have no problems with Glycerin, my hair likes it, but you definitely won’t find me paying 62$ for a bottle of Glycerin. And that is mostly what this stuff is.

Glycerin. With some dust particles of metal, in a fancy plastic pump bottle. Customer Service had a rough time with me. Best believe I got ALL my coins back. Nope. Was it my fault? Probably. But still.

3.
Ha! Nice try Cantu. Might as well have slapped a label over some PAM cooking spray

But Wait!! Here’s Part Two!!!

Continuing on with the misses...

4.

Excuse me Ion. Look... I get it. You’re trying to revamp conditioners....

We’re NOT gonna parade around like this

Isn’t just shampoo pretending to be conditioner. Take whatever the Emulsifying Wax is completely out, because it suds like a shampoo does. If I want a shampoo, I’ll BUY A SHMAPOO!

5.
As I Am. Yes. I’m coming for y’all too.
What in the world is this?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for some Castor or JBCO. But dang y’all...back up off the oil just a liiiiiitle but in the formulation. Way too much.

6.
Palmers....

Look...just take out anything containing the word -Methyl in it. Because this
ain’t cutting it.

Over here talking about length retention. Retain what? Tangles? Nope. Got enough of those.

7.
I’ll take it easy on Shea Moisture, since I like most of their stuff, but I just didnt like this

I’m already a Shea Unicorn. If I wanted to put a bunch of Shea in my hair, I would’ve slapped on half of my jar I have in my bathroom.

8.
Made my hair clump together waaaaay too much. And not the good type of clumping.

9.
I don’t know who Africa’s Pride thinks their filling with this leave in...but it surely isn’t me. Just throw the whole line in the trash

10.
Alright... now....

Look. Mrs. Kenya Moore. I defended your hair line in the Kenya Moore thread, but this got personal. Real. Quick. I thought you had my back sis!

Idk if it’s the formulation, or the fact that I didn’t use this with heat, but this stuff just sat on my hair. And very few products do that with how porous my hair is. I wanted this stuff to work too. Considering the packaging is my favorite color too.

That’s it....for now. Lol

Thanks for this review. I may try this out next non-shampoo/rinse day because it could be a good cleansing conditioner.

Hits
  • Still liking Natures Ego Chebe Detox Shampoo, cleansing, slightly sudsy, tingly and after rinsing, hair is soft and fluffy
  • Cocktailing Sprouted Curlies Maracuja mask over the Uniqurl mask, creamy, softening and elongating.

Miss
  • Hennasooq Curls and Moisture mask, Lawd, I'll have to cocktail my next pack. I couldnt even keep it on 2- minutes. It felt rough and drying going on. I should have known better. It needs something slippery in it as well as moisturizing. ( I'll add a can of coconut milk next time)
  • Using LCO method on wet hair. Its too many products. My hair is still overly wet in some spots.

Neither a hit or a mis
  • Uniqurl Deep conditioner , It was okay. A slight tingle and really firm while feeling heavy. My hair felt like moisture was returning after rinsing the HS mask out but not a whole lot. I didnt steam though which would have made it better.
  • Curl Smith Conditioning oil in Cream, it was okay. Its considered a primer or leave in. So it did its job but nothing to justify the price

Obia Babassu Detangling Conditioner

Good for detangling and easy to spread throughout my hair.

Kinky Curly Seriously Smooth Swift Set Lotion

I really did not like how my twist out turned out with this. Too bulky. I'll stick with the Curling Custard for my twist outs. I returned the Swift Set lotion.

Forgot to post these

Natures Ego

Cassia and Banana Treatment, too liquid like. I had to rinse it out after 20 minutes because it kept dripping. It smelled like bananas though. I used half the bottle because it was a thin consistency.

Not a hit or a miss

Nurcreations

Protein Free Deep conditioner , I think this would have been better with steam. It was thick and creamy. slightly detangling but not a lot. Definitely more a base to use after a henna or ayurvedic mask rinse.

APB extreme hydration leave in: sinks in. Feels wonderful and moisturizing. Love it, want to try the full line.

Miss
APB garlic oil. Doesn’t seem at all potent or highly infused. I have a garlic oil from UHuru and that one is really good. I will pop it into all my conditioners that I’m adding Ayurvedic powders to. Definitely won’t repurchase. Sad because I remember loving this brand’s oils in the past.

BIG MISS

I forgot about this particular miss, but cleaning up my hair storage reminded me. The last Mielle sale was an opportunity for me to reup my supply of the Ginger gel. I was loving this as it was flexible but really good for edges and different styles.

It is completely different. The color, texture, hold, is all different. I tried it out and my entire head laughed at it. I even took comparison pics, I added my review to the Mielle site where it magically disappeared. :look:

The left is the new product. It’s whiter and creamier in texture. The right is the old formula that is darker, more jelly like and stiffer. I promptly put it in my storage as I couldn’t be bothered to return. Really annoyed. I will check in store to see if the old formula is still around, or maybe I got a bad batch. No idea but I know Mielle saw my bad review and erased it!

Fortunately in that same order I got the rosemary mint gel. I’ve been using that and really liking it. I don’t need 3 or 4 day hold as I usually wet my hair daily if not cowash every two-3 days. I like that it has some good oils in it.

Yes they are! I didn’t notice it when I opened the package but after looking at it I did a bunch of comparisons. When I get a chance I’m gonna see how the ingredients changed because it is not the same product.

They did the same thing with their avocado hair milk. The original didn't contain glycerin or shea butter. The new version has both. They changed the formula years ago and most people didn't notice.

Scandalous!:nono2:...:nono:

They did the same thing with the mint and babassu oil DC. They changed the packaging and when I checked the ingredients, things are not the same there either. It doesn't have the same effect it used to have on my hair. Just a bit... 'meh' now.
