Demi Permanent Hair (brown)

Ok, here is my dilema... I have medium to dark brown hair (natural color) and gray (salt and pepper) throughout my hair. I've used wella color charm in the past and when I used the browns within their color chart, my hair always comes out black. I don't like the look of the black hair on me as it is so different from natural hair color.

Anyone have success coloring their gray hair using a brown demi permanent hair color without their hair turning out black?

Also, not ready to take the permanent route as I'm still on the fence about going gray and loving it.:sekret:

I used Ion from Sallys. You can combine colors if you want a modified color.

Have you tried leaving it on for a shorter time?

Thanks @faithVA . I was eyeing the Ion Color from Sally's. Just not sure which color(s) to purchase (or mix).

Also, no I haven't tried leaving it on for less time.

ETA:

I've used Wella Color Charm in dark brown (turned it black), then in medium brown (turned it black), then I tried Chestnut. Chestnut was okay, but my gray strands didn't take on the color too well.

Try the mefium brown ion and test it in a small section that you can see but hide. They recommend a strand test. Then if it is too light mix with dark brown or too dark a lighter brown. Make sure to not leave it on for extra time. Color darkens the longer you leave it on.

Ok, I'll give this a try and thank you @faithVA :rose:.
