Help With Hair Texture

After four years of being natural, I decided to relax my hair. It’s been two months now since I’ve relaxed my hair, and the texture seems very off, almost paper like and crisp, even after a shower. It also knots easily when clumped together like in a bun.

I could really use some help here. I also am at a loss for what products to use now that I’m no longer natural.

Save me y’all!

Wanted to add that I think what my hair does is web together. Not sure this is a moisture thing either.

Your hair may have become a higher porosity, which could explain the extra tangling and dryness.

I know folks sometimes recommend porosity equalizers like from Zotos/Roux (?).

What is your regimen like?
Tbh I’ve always been super low maintenance with my regimen. I wash, condition, moisturize and bun my hair every week or two depending on how it feels. I don’t do much else unless I want to straighten it which is like once every two months. I still use the same products I used when natural (Annabelle’s leave in, Elucence MB conditioner).

I also detangle in the shower.

I have normally dry hair. After one use I believe I am IN LOVE with DevaCurl's No Poo Milky cleanser. I believe this will nourish your hair whether natural or chemically altered.

During my recent wash I shampooed 3x:
- First wash: Stripped/clarified my hair with baking soda and a bargain shampoo; which I left on for approx 3min before rinsing off. My hair was squeeky clean.
- 2nd & 3rd washes: I used this product which I left on whilst I scrubbed my shower walls...(don't judge me). After just one shampooing my hair felt like butta'; still I did my customary 3rd wash and conditioning.

I'm not one to spend much on shampoos but this one is a keeper!

Yes, I've seen lots of relaxed ladies swear by Roux porosity control or French Perm Stabilizer products. And I also agree that high porosity seems to be an issue here.

I honestly believe that you can still keep your simple regi but maybe just switch out the products you use. You may not even have to switch them all out, only certain steps. Maybe you can now wash and condition w a porosity control product and then moisturize and bun with whatever you use now. You can also use white vinegar/ACV to lower the pH of a your hair in order to help close my cuticles.

When was the last time you clarified? Whenever I run into an issue, I start the slate clean by clarifying and then DCing with protein and moisture.

Also, do you DC? Maybe you can add a weekly protein + moisturizing DC somewhere. I don't like to do one without the other, my hair works best when I use protein and moisture together instead of separately. The protein helps the hair accept moisture better.

All the knotting is probably porosity related (raised cuticles) so ACV rinse might help in addition to some of the other suggestions.
Protein might also help, like the ApHogee 2 minute reconstructor or Olaplex No 3– in that it would temporarily fill any spaces that may exist from the cuticles being lifted for extended periods of time, this would reduce tangling and increase smoothness as well.
