Joico Is Reformulating Its Moisture Recovery Line....why, Why, Why!?!?!?

This post is for the Joico Moisture Recovery line fans...feel free to insert your fond memories, vents, rants here (and stock up on the now old formula!)

I'm a heavy Joico fan and in recent months I've noticed that they've been moving away from their award winning Quadramine/Bio-advanced Peptide Complex technology to something called SmartRelease technology. I have nothing against companies introducing new products and new technologies but LEAVE THE CLASSIC LINES ALONE!

I went to Joico's website to watch the video clip of the new line, and the texture of the reformulated Moisture Recovery Balm looks much thinner (i.e., not a balm).

Anyway, as a loyal Joico fan I will be trying the new formula once it hits retail, but in the meantime I'll be stocking up on the old version.

P.S. Joico also just dropped a HydraSplash Line. It's supposed to be the Moisture Recovery line for fine hair types....again with this new SmartRelease technology.

That's the current ingredient list (the now old formula). I don't think the new formula is available yet. Joico just announced it; I can't find the new ingredient list yet, but here's what the new packaging looks like.

I followed the link and it took me to ultra with that list. I have some moisture recovery balm in the cupboard and it definitely does not have three cones.

Could be an even older version. Joico reformulated their products once before (years ago).

Ulta's website doesn't have the new formula uploaded yet. I'm looking at my MRB and it has the exact ingredients you listed above.

Damn. So, I must have the oldest one. Does the one you have work the same as the older ones?

I love Joico MRB. Kenra also recently reformulated some classic staples and the ingredients don't look as good. The reviews have been terrible for them also. I stocked up on two liter bottles of the old Kenra MC when cosmoprof marked them down to about $9. I wonder if these companies contract with a lab expires and they switch to a new manufacturer? The new lab comes up with their own version of a similar product? I can't understand any other reason why these companies mess with a good thing.

That's why I need to start making my own stuff more often. I can control what's in it and keep the formula the same.

I used the new Kenra moisturizing shampoo yesterday and it was terrible. The old formula always made my hair soft and moisturized. This new formula left my hair stripped. I'm returning it to Ulta.

Check your local Marshalls. My Marshalls is stocked with the old ones.

I dont use the moisturr recovery line but Inlike the green line for fine hair. I noticed I wasnt seeing it in store and feared they discontinued it

Yep, Joico also discontinued and replaced their Green Body Luxe Volumizing Line with a new line called JoiFull Volumizing ...which has their new SmartRelease technology. Sigh

If any of you have military friends, they should be able acquire some for you at the Post Exchange (military department store). I checked the one closest to me and they were still selling the old version.

So I turned to Amazon since I didn't find enough extra bottles of the old formula at Ulta, and Amazon sent me the new formula!

I can't believe Joico is deploying the new versions so quickly...ugh! Anyway, I took pictures of the bottles (including the new ingredients). The ingredients don't seem drastically different; they just removed all of the peptides and replaced them with their SmartRelease technology - a liposome delivery system that continuously releases powerful Rose Hip Oil, Arginine, and Keratin.......

The consistency and scent seem similar to the old formula so I'm hoping for the best - I'll try it this weekend (i.e., the shampoo and conditioner, I don't have the balm yet).

Update - I finally tried the new Moisture Recovery Balm and I'm relieved to report that it worked just as well as the old formulation. The new ingredients are almost identical to the old formula....besides Joico adding their new technology.

It looks the same, smells the same, and performs the same so I no longer feel pressure to stock up. The only thing that sucks is...the new packaging for the 16.9 fl oz size is in a long bottle (with a pump), which will make it hard to get every drop of product out when it gets low.

I stocked up for nothing.
