REMEMBER: No hiding your hair! No wigs, no weaves, no extensions, etc.

This challenge is for twist, braids, and buns on your own hair. Using these low manipulation and protective styles, we aim to retain the growth we achieve over the year.

Twists: 2 strand twists, flat twists, 2 strand flat twists, 3 strand twists, coils, bantu knots
Braids: Box braids & mini braids on your hair, plaits, cornrows, french braids, etc.
Buns: Any kind of bun or updo. We want our ends to be protected and tucked away!

RULES:
1. ALL STYLES MUST BE DONE WITH YOUR OWN HAIR EXCLUSIVELY.

2. Your hair must be in twist, braids or bunned for at least 5 consecutive days.

3. You can wear your hair out for up to 3 days between styling (i.e twist-outs, afros, wash and go, etc).

4. Check in 1x a month or more. Update us on your regimen, style, moisturizing secrets, etc.)

5. Post a picture of your hair at the beginning of the challenge and at the end.

6. The challenge will be from January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020 but will run month to month. You can opt out for a month or more if needed. But when you commit, commit for the month.

7. You will have 1 pass per quarter, during the challenge to cover you for a week.

9. Heat is allowed in this challenge. Be sure to use a heat protectant and the lowest setting possible for your hair. Remember to be careful! We do not want to damage our hair for the styling purposes of this challenge.

I will be going back and forth with twists and buns for the week. I might throw some crown braids in as well.

2. What is your style maintenance regimen?

I will be spraying my hair daily with a refresher or rice water LI before bed and putting a bonnet on.

3. Are you natural, relaxed, transitioning?

I am natural.

4. What do you hope to achieve from the challenge?

Learn to wear my hair up during the week and keep my hands out of it.

5. How often will you restyle your hair?

I will be styling weekly on the weekends.

6. Include Starting Pic.

I will upload a picture of a high bun, but its not how I will wear my hair because I wear a hat at work. My daily bun will have to sit lower. I'll work on that this weekend. I might include a donut so it looks fuller.

I may join. I have been wearing my hair in two strand twists none stop since easter, so about 8 months now. My plan is to go till next easter for a full 12 months.

I didn't plan on this, it just happened. After easter I put in some small (but not small enough to be mini) twists, intending to keep them for 2 weeks. Yeah, I got lazy and that became 2 months. During that time I took care of them, kept washing, and conditioning, and shea buttering the twists. When I finally untrusted my hair seemed longer and healthier so I decided to keep going. Only now I retwist every two weeks.

Getting ready to plan wash day this Saturday.

I have henna left over from last weekend. I think, I'll make a gloss and steam that in this weekend.

My twists held up for the week, they just look so skinny when down. I think I'll make them chunky on Sunday.

I want to do 2 strands but my hair still is a bit too short for my 2 strands to look nice. Will hold onto flat twists for a while until I can get a little more length.

I’ll be on vacation on 1/1 so I’m not doing a thing to my hair until it gets wet while on vacation. While there, I’ll keep it bunned and coated in Shea butter for that week’s time

Just moisturized and sealed my twists for the night. I used SSI Okra Scalp Spray and sealed with Hairveda Cocasta oil.

Getting an idea of what I want to use on the weekend for washday now. Probably will untwist my hair Friday night and rock a twist out until I wash it.

I have been doing diagonal parts for my mini twists and I love it. My hair is fine and look a little spacey with the brick method for the first few days. This method allows me to twist my hair faster because I could grab pieces of hair instead of making parts. My hair overall appearance fills in really nicely.

I had a coworker stop me today and tell me she tried to do her mini twist like mine but it didn't work out for her. She then asked how much would I charge her to do her mini twists for her. I was at a lost for words and didn't know what to say at first. I said it would be gas money and about 3 hours to do, we can figure out the cost when you are ready.
