Anyone Wash Their Hair This Way?

I noticed several Indian women (observeation via watching several YT vids) wash their hair bending forward and pour water with a jug...and then some "dunk" their hair into a big tub.

This is an example: (FFWD to 6:58)

(BTW this woman uses onion on her scalp regularly :yep:)

Some could say its because of their standard of living maybe they don't have shower. Many of them do this IN the shower.
As a no comber and ayurvedic powder user im thinking this will help get powders out easier and help with tanlges: I get most of my tangles at the nape. Bending over makes it easier to get at the back of the head. Not to mention waste less water AND help with circulation :burn::burn:

What do you guys think? :headspin:

I have a problem with the water just running like that it's such a waste

I use to wash my hair leaning forward until LHCF but I guess whatever works for you

I see what you mean. I was thinking of filling up a tub and pouring from that.

What made you change from leaning forwards to wash?

when I first started out all of 3-4 hair boards that I was a member of recommend turning away from the shower head, I found this method easier for detangling especially when my hair hit BSL also less product in the eyes, the lady in the video hair is 4 times my length and seems to have no problem at all leaning forward so to each their own.

There were several people just talking about this method on the Zero Waste subreddit. Common in eastern countries and I've seen videos of people with super long dreads do it this way. I haven't tried it yet though. You could also certainly do the method without leaving the water running the whole time. I suppose it's not all that different than getting my hair washed at the kitchen sink as a child. My mom used a cup while I leaned forward.

Seems more environmentally friendly than standing under a steady stream of water(if that gray bucket is not draining) and more comfortable than being naked in the shower with the water off. I’ll try this next time.

Yes and yes to the bolded :yep: exactly what I was thinking. What really attracted me to this is that its seems less wasteful than just standing in the shower for 30+ mins

Most of my tangles seem to be at the nape of my neck nowadays and because I do fingers only this seems an easier way to get at them

I don't think the gray tub drains, I think its definitely less wasteful too. And yes I dont always want to shower when I wash my hair. I mean a lot of us grew up washing hair in the sink and this is pretty much that, except that movement seems a lot less restricted here. When I used to sink wash I would always bump my head on the faucet

I'm trying this next wash as well :yep:

I usually wash my hair when I'm taking a shower anyway, so I don't know how much water it would save doing it this way. I find it hard to really clean my scalp and make sure all the product is out this way, too. And it strains my back. Though honestly on rare occasion I do wash like this when I don't feel like getting in the shower. I stand outside the shower and bend over it and use the hand held shower wand. I've also washed my hair like this when in situations where I didn't have access to running water

Tried it today. I like it :yep: It seems as if I used less water than showering. I liked pouring water over my head with a jug because there is more force of water I find things were rinsing out of my hair faster. I also found I manipulated my hair less while rinsing. No tangles.

Plus because I use so much oil and butter it was nice not to have a greasy back

I'll keep doing this..let's see how it goes, so far so good

I used to wash my hair this way in the shower sometimes, but I’d always do it that way if I washed in the sink. Great for stimulation and blood flow, but I get MASSIVE tangles.

Everryyyyyy single time. I like her method, and I’m sure it works for her and many others. Seeing as how her hair texture can allow for that, I would say this method is beneficial for those who have hair textures that don’t tangle when doing this.

not knocking this method at all, but for me I just get massive tangles. I prefer just washing up right in the shower. My hair has to be going all in one direction, and the down flowing water helps with that a TON.

This is how I mostly wash my hair. I collect the water using a basin from the tap in my bathtub and I scoop the water using a bowl. I do it bending over from the edge of my bathtub. I like it this way but I find that my hair tangles less if I do it standing while I shower but I hate going in and out of of the shower for deep conditioners.

I wash out my relaxer this way too but I'm thinking of changing that because I worry about relaxer getting into my eyes. I don't know what effect that will have long term. But I also don't know if washing the relaxer out in the shower is a good idea since the relaxer will get all over my body. I will appreciate any tip.

@PlanetCybertron and @abioni maybe I had beginners luck  because my hair can get quite tangled. But I agree that this is not suitable for everyone.

I personally found I had less tangles this way. I just poured the water over my head and squeezed my hair, repeating that over and over until my hair felt clean and the water ran clear. I didnt try to manipulate it at all until I was "right side up".

With the relaxer rinsing I would think the shower is better because theres more risk with relaxer getting in your eyes vs. running down your body.
