Joico Is Reformulating Its Moisture Recovery Line....why, Why, Why!?!?!?

Thanks for your investigative reporting! My natural hair loves MRB. Do you feel the new one has the same slip as the old one?
Update - I finally tried the new Moisture Recovery Balm and I'm relieved to report that it worked just as well as the old formulation. The new ingredients are almost identical to the old formula....besides Joico adding their new technology.

It looks the same, smells the same, and performs the same so I no longer feel pressure to stock up. The only thing that sucks is...the new packaging for the 16.9 fl oz size is in a long bottle (with a pump), which will make it hard to get every drop of product out when it gets low.

Guys... I went back to TJMaxx .... they only have the new formula for $9.99 ... I grabbed them anyway cos they are half the price of Ulta ... but :cry3::cry3::cry3:

Wow, Joico planned the distribution of their new formula/packaging so well. TJMaxx is usually the last to get the new stuff...sheesh!

Come back after you try it...I'm curious to know what you think

Please, let us know your thoughts on the new formula. Half price is better than full price:).

Will keep you guys posted! Ive used this baby exclusively for years and they just couldnt leave a good thing alone.... I pray it works the same because I dont even the mental energy to find another staple DC..

I haven't seen the MRB in a while and I haven't found anything to replace it. Since there may not be much of a difference I'll try out the new formula.

There was a thread around here a long time ago about why companies change their ingredients over time. I can't remember the reason but even though it sounded logical and made sense I was still mad.

I've been reading up on Joico's reasoning for changing their ingredients over time.

Apparently for Joico, they try to stay true to their original formula, but they update their technology to improve the delivery of their active ingredients to the hair cuticle and cortex. At least that's how I understand it

Here's a 35 year timeline of their hair ingredients/technology advancements: https://www.joico.com/about/

I'm sure they'll update it again soon to include their most recent SmartRelease technology.

I’m sorry y’all I lied ... I actually got the old formula from TJMaxx not the new one. The tube was slightly slimmer, and it just felt “new” ... also it was more expensive ($9.99 be $7.99/$6,99) so I just assumed it was the new formula.

Anyway I realized the new formula bottle has a completely different design (unlike mine that is the old blue) so I compared ingredients and it’s the exact same but the tube is actually slightly slimmer ... anyway... these three tubes will carry me for the year but I’ll be keeping my eye on this thread for more reviews of the new formula.

Sigh...so I've been using the Moisture Recovery Shampoo (original formula) consistently with great results for about 4 years. It always left my strands smooth, hydrated, shiny and really clean. That's over with the new formula.

I've been using the new Moisture Recovery Shampoo for 4-5 weeks (I wash my hair 2x a week), and in the beginning, I actually really liked it because it didn't dry my hair out and I couldn't detect any obvious change from the original formula. But, gradually I started noticing that the texture of my hair was changing...and I kept the rest of my regimen the same. It was strange because my hair overall was still soft-ish, but the texture of my strands felt rougher and my hair started splitting all over...not just at the ends. This freaked me out because split ends have never been an issue for me in the 4 years I've been using Joico.

Anyway, last week I decided to go back to the old formula of the shampoo and I swear my hair felt like its old self again! So yeah...I won't be using the new Shampoo anymore, and I've since stocked up on the old formula of the Shampoo.

Another thing...The new formula of the Moisture Recovery Conditioner...Heavy Sigh...not the same either. I won't say much more about this one because I haven't used it consistently enough to form a definite opinion, but my initial impression is: it's different, and not in a good way.

It's the damn silicones. Makes your hair feel smooth and soft, while the hair is literally crying out for help. We need to find an alternative that can be bought in large quantities (16oz and up). I tried Pattern beauty and did not like it.
