Hey guys, I know you will give it to me straight. I am holding on to these ends for dear life, but should I trim now or can I wait for another 3 months?? I haven't trimmed my hair since last Nov. I never wear it down, always in a bun, clip, or good hair day pins. Thanks in advance ladies!

If you are talking about the first picture, I'm not sure whether you should trim. If you are getting breakage or split ends from the thin ends then I would trim. If you wear your hair down regularly and want it to look healthy and even, I would trim. If you pretty much wear your hair in protective styles and you aren't having any issues, I wouldn't trim the ends away. I HAD to trim mine. They were causing me more harm than good.

I say don't trim until all your hair gets past your shoulder blade and starts to hang a bit more. Even at that point I would trim only a little.

I think they're just look like that becasue your hair is growing sothe ends maybe naturally thining due to the growth. I wouldn't trim just yet.

Thanks ladies, I just relaxed it about 2 weeks ago after a 15 week stretch. These ends just look so much thinner than they did in June. Maybe I need to henna again... Please keep the advice coming!!! I love you guys!

Since you wear your hair mainly in protective styles I would definitely trim it. Plus your hair will not only look healthier, but it'll be even and longer once you've relaxed it again in another 15 weeks.

My hair looked a bit worse than this after not trimming from November - August. I got 1/2 an inch trimmed off my ends and it feels much better. I was trying to hold on too...:ohwell:

Catina, what troubles me is that in the June 2007 picture, your ends do not look frayed at all. I wouldn't expect your ends to look the way they do after just three months.

Can you tell us more about your routine and your products?

Hi Catina72...I think with a good moisturizing shampoo & conditioner along with you trimming the ends a little that will help a great deal. Also moisturize your hair & especially the ends and they will be healthy again. Other than that you hair does not look bad at all, you have a good length too...:yep:

Don't do it just yet! Try clarifying then using a reconstructor (like Terax Crema)1st!...u WILL see a BIG difference in your hair afterwards ;)...btw,your ends may just be thin not damaged...remember it is the oldest part of your hair, and depending when u started your journey, this may be the over relaxed portion...just thinkin' :)...HHG

I just re-read your OP where you say your last haircut was in November. For some reason I imagined it was June 2007. Since you wear your hair up all the time, why not wait another couple of months for your next trim. There's no rush.

I would trim just a little. Maybe about half an inch. Let it grow out and trim again in about 8 weeks if needed.

When was your last relaxer? If these pics are not with a fresh relax, then don't trim until after your relaxer. My ends look ragged if my roots are not straight.

I would do a trim if I were in your shoes but it would be very teeny tiny. From what I can see the ends don't look to bad. Maybe a 1/4 of an inch trim should suffice :)

Your hair does look like it grows in a V...I would trim it a little but I'm scissor happy so trimming is a must for me ... I love freshly cut ends

Thanks for all the responses!! I got caught up in the wack VMA's on Mtv but anywayz.... I really think I will cut sometime soon, I just got a relaxer on Aug 25th so it is still pretty fresh although the crown did not get straight at all:nono:. It looks to me like all the growth I gained I need to cut but I will start with about an inch, my DH said he will go with me to make sure they don't cut too much. I have gotten lazy with my routine since its been well over a year since I started my hair care journey. I only wash once a week, prepoo with a protein or moisturizing conditioner, cold water rinse and airdry in ponytail. I was using EndAll for my ends but oh well. Thanks again!

I tried to hold on to my ends for awhile and I had to let them go; I got an inch cut off a few weeks ago and I am so glad that I did; they may do more harm than good to keep. I doesn't look like you need a whole lot cut off, though.

HTH!

Some strands may grow faster than others. If your ends are healthy (and since you're a protective-styler, I assume they are), the unevenness may just be due to this discrepancy. If you trim your ends, it's likely they'll end up looking the same way they do now in a few months. It's really up to you, but I say if you're wearing your hair up all the time and you're keeping your splits under control, I wouldn't bother trimming your healthy progress just yet.
