Lava Soft Bonnet Dryer with Tourmaline

I bought a new soft bonnet dryer off of Amazon. I've been having constant issues trying to find a new soft bonnet dryer that works well. Its been very hit and miss miss miss with the brands sold at Sally's. (I'm on my 4th Carel Soft Bonnet because they're so cheaply made! The one I'm using now has duct tape on the bonnet-to-hose connector!)

Anyway, last week I found a new dryer on Amazon, and decided to take a chance and order it. I was a little hesitant because I couldn't find any info on the wattage. I even emailed the company and got no response. But I ordered it anyway.

This is it: http://www.amazon.com/Lava-Soft-Bonnet-Dryer-Tourmaline/dp/B000X2DR1O/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_title_15

UPS delivered late last night. I'm planning on trying it out today. So far I can see that the bonnet is of MUCH better construction than the Carel. Its a heavier weight plastic, with good gathering and a extra long drawstring. I've had a Carel bonnet rip before. It would be hard to tear this one. Its very large too. I don't anticipate any problems getting all of my rollers in there.

It seems to heat up very quickly too.

So far what I don't like is that you have to leave the top up when you're using the dryer. The hose and the cord are attached inside the compartment. I can anticipate that lid getting in the way during use. We'll see.

It's been a few weeks and so far so good. The bonnet is a heavy weight material and very large. I don't have to worry about it tearing or ripping as I did with previous bonnet dryers.

The temp/speed settings are great. Low and High with Hot and Cool.

The case does get in the way when I'm using it. You have to leave the lid open (dumb design!). So I have to set it on a side table or some similar surface when I'm drying. Not horrible but still...

Definite keeper. 4.5 out of 5 stars!

I'm going to try this. I have a soft bonnet that has given up drying my hair. I hope I can fit my big head in there with no problem.

I'm so glad you posted this. My umpteenth Carel one from Sally's died on me a few weeks ago & I love soft bonnets but I know that the Carel one is a bunch of junk. :ohwell:

This is the exact same dryer that I use but it's called Select Pro Gold Ionic/Tourmaline. Got it from Wal-Mart for $26.00. It's excellent and it has the same dumb design with the lid. Don't know what's up with the different names on this b/c this obviously the same dryer. I havn't had any problems with this yet. The cap is huge and sturdy, it gets your hair dry so fast, I love it. I can just kick back, put my feet up, lie down whatever I want to do while my hair is drying. Super convenient.

The same company (LAVA) also has a tourmaline pressing comb that I have been eyeing at my local Beauty Max for $40. When I tried to do a search on it for reviews (didn't find any), it came up as available for $14.99 at Walmart just like the hair dryer and was way cheaper. It had a different name, but all the features and the color were exactly the same.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!

I was just whining in another thread that my hair takes 3 hours to dry with my stupid Carel dryer... Probably because that ridiculous bonnet leaks air and the hose connection won't stay put!! I had a Gold n' Hot that caught fire, so I'll never buy one of those again. I'm off to buy one of these. THANKS LAG!!!

Silkii Locks, I bought this exact dryer from Walmart over the weekend.

I'm excited to use it in place of my hard hood dryer. It was old, loud, a pain to store, and most of all a serious fire hazard (the cord melted) + I got sick of being confined to one area in order to use it.

I'm looking forward to kicking back in my bed relaxing, watching TV...all while drying my hair! You can't beat that!
Plus, the price is great!

The bolded is the last reason I'm holding onto for why I haven't purchased a Pibbs dryer! I've been lusting on a Pibbs for many moons now... but I can't get past not wanting to be stuck in one place while my hair dries!

I know its a fully dumb issue...but oh well!

ITA! I have been stuck under my hood dryer for years, not being able to hear sh*t and heating up a whole room :nono:

I'm just tired of it. At least with the bonnet you can sit anywhere (even in bed), your ears aren't covered so you can watch TV and have a conversation with out screaming ....HUH... WHAT?!... :wallbash: :lachen:

i have the select pro walmart bonnet dryer, too!
i had to duct-tape the hose onto the part that connects to the bonnet.
and it seems like just about every 3rd tuesday the thing wants to shut off for no dang reason...
AND it burns the back of my neck up something serious...

but it works! i can dry a full macherie-style roller set with the purple rollers in about 2.5 hours on cool :perplexed but i'm usually on my bed asleep while i'm drying :drunk:

I just ordered this and then read the previous post. LOL! But I had a Carel a while ago and the hose separated also....I just think the soft bonnets are this way by design but I never thought of the duct tape...which is a wonderful invention, maybe I should duct tape it as soon as I take it out of the box?!

I've been looking everywhere for this and the Select Pro. I think I might just go with one of Lava's hard bonnet dryers. :ohwell:

I have the exact same dryer! I loooove it! If anything happens to it I'll die! I missed and tore a hole in the cap. Air started coming out. Girl! I put some super glue on that and kept it moving! I paid $50 for it at my local BSS.

This is the exact same dryer that Gold N Hot put out... not the one with the clear plastic cap, but this same, black, heavy duty vinyl bonnet... I don't know what I'll do if it tears ,because it was one of the only 2 the local bss had there... and I can't find them anywhere else. I gave up on looking for the select pro one, because it says that there aren't any within 100 miles of my walmart, but they are in limited stores... I wonder if I can get the site to store feature to bring one to me? Lawd, I prolly shouldn't have said that, cuz now all of Y'ALL are gonna go scoop up the last ones...

Oh well, I guess I'll call walmart now and see if I can't get this done...

HA! - I called them first and had it done BEFORE I hit the submit button! I know how y'all are!!!:lachen::lachen:

My select pro is still going strong. The bonnet did tear up but nothing a little duct tape couldn't fix. It still gets hot as ever and has never shut off once in the nearly 2 years that I've had it. If something happens to it I honestly don't know what I will do, because Wal-mart.com says it's not available anymore. Guess I need to start researching places to buy another right now.

I have a Select Pro and I love it so much. If anyone finds it or a Lava one please post. I have stalked Walmart and the internet and can't find either! I will be sad when mine dies. OHHHH!

the select pro. Some have claimed to have called the company and ordered it directly from them for $20 + $12 shipping but no one has updated on whether they received it. I'll call them tomorrow and see.
