Does anyone have a recommendation for a Brooklyn Salon that does good relaxers under $40? Can be Dominican or other? I see all these posts for Dominican salons that do wash and sets but everyone seems to advise to stay clear of them for relaxers b/c they tend to overprocess..Anywho, need to get a relaxer tomorrow. Thanks!

Try Sisters Unisex on Lawrence St. downtown or Hair Express salon on Bridge st downtown, ask for Mildred she is the owner/operator. Both dominican salons

Go to Miriams on Marcus Garvey (bed stuy) and ask for BELKY. She does perms really well and fast and she doesnt force anything that you dont want her to do. She does great clips and cuts too. Try her!!

Thanks for all responses y'all. Just an update. I ended up going to Sister's Unisex this morning. I opted for the ORS relaxer and was seated immediately. I asked her to do the front and back last because I am thin around there, she didnt' understand me and proceeded to go straight to the back..after I corrected her we we were ok. She sure smoothed the ish out of my new growth. I tried to explain that I wanted to be done under 20 minutes, but she didn't understand that either. But she was in fact done under 20. When I got to the wash bowl, I had one of the washers explain to my wash girl that I wanted my protein condish (2 minute aphogee)before the shampoo, yet she went for the shampoo neway after rinsing out the relaxer, she was like "after, after" and I'm like no..now! lol. Because I was looking at the big jug of shampoo that was on the shelf and nowhere did I see "neutralizing" on there, unless I missed something they were using the same shampoo on those that had just received a relaxer and the girls that were just getting a reg. wash. luckily I had my own neut. shampoo. Anywho, I left with wet hair b/c my hair is too short for a smooth rollerset (it would have been curly instead of straigt at the ends ya feel me?) so I am under the dryer now with condish cuz you know they be leaving there's on for oh about 6 seconds. Hope this helps someone out!

cocoagirl,

Next time I would also recommend Expression Salon on Bridge St, Downtown BK. 718-403-0031 ask for Mildred. The shampoo ladies to a mean shampoo!I am not sure how much the relaxers are but I don't think they are over $40. I really like this salon a lot. I tried the Sister's Unisex but stopped going. I felt they didn't really want to deal with natural hair and always gave me a hard time and was very rude.

I too use to be natural now texlax and thinking of what to do next. I am also a south side Chicago girl now living in Bedstuy BK lol. How long have you been in nyc?

I'm just sitting here shocked and amazed that you guys in NYC can get a relaxer for $40 that is the price of a wash/condition at most Dominican salon here in DC, and they are what I would have called reasonably priced!:lachen:

Carry on...

I have been there for a W&S many times but I have never seen anyone at Sister's Unisex apply a relaxer that made me want to allow them to do mine.

That's the reason I stopped going to sisters unisex. If I can't see what you are using in my hair I'm not coming back!
