I really like soft bonnet dryers, but I am NOT pleased with my Carel dryer. It takes super long to dry and even with my braid outs, I have to let my hair dry first. My rollersets are almost double timed to get right. I used my friends Gold N Hot and I loved it!! My hair dried in 45 minutes and I'm going to invest in this one when I save some money. I'm thinking of selling my Carel on Ebay.

Ladies with thick hair, save your money on this dryer.

I have a Carel from Sally's also. It was pretty good for about 4 washes, then the thing started to fall apart. The hood will not stay attached to the hose and I had to rig it with a rubber band and my rollersets don't come out as nice with it. I'm thinking of purchasing another brand soon and throwing this one out.

I have two old school soft bonnet dryers and when I say old school I mean OLD SCHOOL!! They are from like the 1950's or 60's...I got them off of ebay and they work great.

I use ION's Soft Bonnet Dryer, it's awesome! I've had it for years... if I need to set my curls in the morning, I just put it on while getting dressed for my day. It works very fast and the "high" heat setting really is high, unlike those other soft bonnet dryers that only blow cold air :ohwell:.

Looks like this, but it's grey and made by ION: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31ZBF257XSL._AA220_.jpg

Ladies, I was in Sally's today and I noticed they sell the bonnett attachment (just the head piece and hose) and you attach a blow dryer to the hose. Has anyone tried this method?

I'm sure it will give you less mobility, because in this case you will have to keep within the length of the cord.

It seems to me that this would burn out your blowdryer...it's not made to be on for hours at a time...

I also have the Gold n' Hot Soft Bonnett. I've had it for years and it's seen me through several hair stages. I've used it for wraps, rollersets and basic airdrying. It gets very hot without burning your ears to death (you can lift the bonnet over your ears). No matter what style I'm setting, I'm usually dry within 45-1 hour. I actually prefer it over the hard sit under portable dryers because the heat is more concentrated and like others have said, it allows ease of mobility.

I too use the Ion one (from Sally's), my bonnet is silver. I love it, it dries superfast. I mainly use it for deep conditioning, but when I rollerset or use flexirods, I use it too.

Nope not true, I have a ION hand held dryer and I use the large conairpro bonnet attachment and it works great!!! I perfer bonnet dryers to table tops or rollabouts and I have found that the attachment works best for me. I just make sure my dryer vent is clean and Im good to go. It normally takes a little over an hour for my hair to dry.

Before this I was using the Carel dryer from sally's and I had sooo many issues with this dryer.

You have about the same mobility with the bonnet attachment that you would have with the bonnet dryers.

Dang! What brand was that?! Did the melted plastic burn you?

I usually use it for an hour to deep condition a few times a week. I also use it a few times a week on my dh for an hour and my dd for 30-40 minutes. It's a sturdy little dryer :yep:

I cant remember the brand now. I will if I see it again. I wasn't hurt, there was just a hole in the plastic tubing that led to the box. I noticed because my dome deflated and I could smell the plastic. :nono: I will look into this one. I will be be going away on a trip and looking for something portable. Thanks for the Info!

ETA: IT WAS A CAREL!!! I TRIED ORDERING THE SELECT GOLD PRO ONLINE FROM WALMART AND THEY DON'T SELL IT ANY MORE. DANG, THOSE LHCF HEFFAS STRIKE AGAIN. LOL NO HARD FEELINGS I'LL CHECK OTHER SITES.

Today I purchased the Carel soft bonnet dryer from Sally's, but I'm going to take it back and get the Gold n Hot because the reviews sound better.

Thanks ladies for the recommendations. I recently had to send my Hot Tools standing dryer back to Helen of Troy because it wasn't working properly (it was still under warranty), and they're back ordered, so I'm getting a refund, which is fab, because I really didnt like that dryer anyway...:perplexed

OK, so I'm tired of dragging that thing in and out of the closet for my rollersets, and after reading this thread, I think I'm going to try out the soft bonnet dryer before investing again in a standing dryer!!

But now I'm torn between the Gold N Hot soft bonnet and the "silver spaceman" looking ION brand soft bonnet... Can anyone recommend one over the other?? :look:

Personally, I would prefer the cap over the "space man" helmet because you can move around (sleep, read watch TV) more comfortably.

Thank you Taytay... that seals the deal for me!! I'll be hitting the BSS after work tonight looking for that Gold N Hot! :yep: It will be nice not to be stuck sitting straight up in a chair to dry my hair! :drunk:

Can I get a recommendation for one like the one at Walmart? One big enough to hold a head full of flexirods. Sometimes I wash my hair at night and want to rollerset to dry but I can't sleep in those things. I need something to dry my hair on the rollers quickly. But the one everyone likes from Walmart seems to not be available anymore, and no one else has them. I can't even figure out what brand they were:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6023380

see, not sold online and not sold in stores. which sounds to me simply like not sold anywhere.

It must be sold out. I ordered this 2 weeks ago and I have it now. You can get the same one on Amazon:

I ordered 2 vintage soft bonnets off Ebay because the people on this board raved about vintage dryers. I lucked up and got 2 never been used soft bonnets from the 60s, I will just be alternating among the 3 since I hate how hot I get under the hard bonnet dryers.

You're right, it's the exact same dryer just sold under a different name. Have I mentioned how much I love this dryer??:grin:

I think peggyfair is right, they are sold out right now. They may get more. I just ordered that one 2 weeks ago and recieved it thurs or friday. My mom has a vintage baby blue sunbeam that I use to use. She still has it duct taped in all. A few yrs ago I bought a pink sunbeam soft bonnet on ebay. It is now duct taped too. I will never get rid of it. (both sunbeams still work!)

I too bought a Carel and wouldn't recommend it. After only three uses the entire seam around the bonnet that holds the elastic in place came loose. It also took a very long time to dry my hair. I'm now seeing reviews all over the place that indicate that this dryer isn't sturdy (the hose melting, bonnet coming apart, etc.). To add insult to injury, the manufacturer doesn't offer replacement soft bonnets. You have to purchase a whole new dryer to get a new bonnet! ... :wallbash:

Okay, thanks. I will wait until Walmart has it back in stock, I think. That'll give me some more time anyway to decide if I really need to spend more money on hair stuff right now.

Tiffers, What's the longest you've used your dryer? I'm asking b/c I had a soft bonnet and about an hour into drying my rollerset the hose melted. :nono: I want another but haven't put forth the effort so this thread is helpful to me. Thanks!

Mine too and the cap always falls apart. I'm on my second Carel dryer.

Yeah, that Carel dryer is a piece of junk. I ended up sewing the piece for the hose to go into back on the bonnet, I was so pissed. :lachen: We'll see how long it lasts!:perplexed I remember having that Gold & Hot dryer and I loved it. I'll have to try out that newer model.

UPDATE LADIES!!!!!
I FOUND THE SELECT GOLD PRO (THE RED ONE) AT MY LOCAL WALMART!!!! YEAH!! Hallelujiah!!!!

Please excuse my over excitement but I was seriously bummed out that I had waited too long to order it off line and it was discontinued; but... I went to my local WalMart this morning just to see what soft bonnets they carried and saw them-lots of them. I got goose bumps. (Seriously becoming a hair fiend!) Maybe its not offered online because it will be a regular at stores. I remember the store didn't have a big selection of hair dryers but there has recently been a big renovation and hair appliances are actually sold near the hair products instead of by household appliances. What a concept! Also nicer/upscaled products are being sold. Anyways, I haven't had the chance to use it yet but good luck to the rest of you. I'll post a review once I've tried it out.

I bought the Lava version of the gold pro today. I wasn't going to buy another soft bonnet b/c I thought they were garbage. Now I realize that the Carel is a certified piece of junk...grade A.

The lava dryer is a MUCH better quality.

Ladies, I'm interested in purchasing a soft bonnett for rollersets. Are they safe for our hair? Meaning they won't add too much heat like hand held dryers?

Which brands to you use?

I have a conair soft bonnet dryer that I love! I used to rollerset when I had a relaxer and it took forever to dry the front of my hair...:wallbash::wallbash:

I bought this one off of Amazon in December. I love it. :yep:
