What's a good heat protectant for flat ironing?

Hi everyone!

It's been 16 weeks since I last used ANY heat on my hair, and this weekend to check my progress, I'm going to *gulp* flat iron.

16 weeks doesn't seem terribly long, but it's been long enough that I've forgotten what products are best to use with heat...

I know that a lot of you ladies use Chi silk infusion on your hair before you flat iron, do you use anything else?

Any product recommendations are welcome..I'm a PJ like no one's business!! :nono:

Fantasia IC heat protector serum!!!!!!

It's cheap and makes my hair really straigt, shiny, flowy and soft. And I love the light watermelon scent :grin:

No other heat protectant has made my hair look so good

For me it's Chi silk infusion all the way!! It leaves me with weightless hair and a nice shine. Smells good too.

i use pantene heat protection cream, ion silk drops or ion straightening iron spray--the pantene leaves my hair soft and straight :blush:

, ion silk drops makes my hair really shiney and soft, still on d fence with d ion straighteninig :ohwell:

Most protectants contain cones. I am scurred of cones - don't want my hair to break off.

Is it true that cones "melt" on hair when you flat iron rendering them pretty much non-damaging. I heard that somewhere

i dunno; it's possible.
i thought that theory is true of any heat protectant? the stuff in the heat protectant melts to protect your hair?

yes that's true. If you're in an experimenting kind of mood, you can put a little bit of serum mixed with water (like a drop each) on an ironing board and iron it. You'll see the serum spread out into a plasticky layer. Don't ask me how I discovered this....it was an unfortunate accident :wallbash:

I've used CHI and IC.

The jury is still out on CHI, but I like IC. The only thing is, I use the IC serum in the bottle and the spray, but for different things. I use the serum (the one you pour out of the bottle) when I flat iron my hair and use the spray when I rollerset. Even though they say it's the same thing, the spray (in my opinion) is is a little lighter.

I agree!

I used to use Chi Silk Infusion, but I prefer the Fantasia (in the pink bottle)

I am not a big cone-head either.

Nothing I use contains cones EXCEPT my heat protectant. That seems to work better for me. But only in retaining moisture and also in the fact that I can use less shampoo.

But really they never really gave me any problems. I just notice that my moisture lasts longer since I have cut out the cones for the most part.

this is a good question. I always wanted to know what others are using. I had a hard time because i want to find a heat protectant the works well on dry hair. Most of the time heat protectant is used on slightly damp hair i think ( i maybe wrong) but will those same heat protectants work on dry hair.

On dry hair is the only way I've used Fantasia, and it's fantastic :yep:

that's neat! i'd rather experiment on an ironing board first than on my hair!!!

Chi silk infusion! I bought this product last week and used it with my flat iron. all i can say is wow. this product really made my hair more shiny and silky than ever. my hair doesn't revert as quickly either.

What's a good heat protectant for flat ironing?
