Not too long ago, I was walking around in the BSS story picking up my Mango butter. There I was, walking around minding my business. Then I heard this convo.

Lady 1: Yeah, my head was burning. I didn't know I was suppose to wash it out.

Lady 2: The directions tell you to wash it out!

Lady 1: Well, I didn't read the directions, I just put it on my head and just went about my business.

Lady 2: Girl, I would not put any chemical on my head without reading the directions. Why would you do that?

Then Lady 1 saw me coming and changed the subject, which was to purchas some hair weave. She hardly had any hair and based on this convo it is obvious why she didn't.

Please, please ladies, it is essential that you read the directions of these chemicals. Sit down, read through it, practice...do not put a chemical on your head and then go about your business.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what chemical it was. I wish I heard the rest. It really caught my attention when the lady said it was burning her head, sounded more like a relaxer. But I don't know.

Hi ladies,
I'm a newbie and  didn't really introduce myself to the whole board. But I must second this OP. Not just read directions but also follow. We may find yourself very embarrased at the end.

I learned it the bad way almost 2 weeks ago. It's been about 3 weeks that I tested Redken products :lick: and I'm totally in love with it, especially Smooth Down line (I'm 4b or z, don't know and relaxed). So I decided to strenghten my hair 1 week prior my relaxer. I mixed Redken Deep Fuel with my DC+coconut oil and let it sit in. As usual I left it for at least 1 hour while being busy on something else. I condition as usual but from that sunday, my scalp was itching like heel and really sored; from scratching, I even get big bumps on the back and sides of my hair. That never happened to me before. I CON on wednesday, clarify....but:wallbash: it was still damn itching. Farewell relaxer on saturday!!!

But the worst part was last Friday, my face started itching also; As hours passed, I realised that small bumps were covering my face. At the end of the day it was just horrible and unbearable. On saturday, OMG scratching like a monkey and my whole face was covered. I went to the doctor and and of course it was an allergy. I don't think it has something to do with food for I ate nothing special. the only think I suspect is using the Deep Fuel for more than an hour :nono:while instructions say to use it 5 to 15 minutes max.

I'm recovering slowly but my face is still no more like before this happened. Even with drugs, my face and my scalp are still itching. I'm trying not to scratch, my scalp still sores a bit and ther is still 2 or 3 bumps at the back of my hair. I think I will still delay me relaxer, Redken is handling my new growth.

Oh excuse me for being so long (and so-so english, I'm a francophon) but I need to let it come out so that other shouldbe careful. So sorry for the extra long post...It is my first steps and I still need some ajustments

I don't think leaving it on longer than the directions indicated caused your allergic reaction. I think maybe you were allergic to the product itself.

Wow! Glad that you are doing and sought medical attention.

Reading is essential, it really is. Welcome to the forum too.

I agree, it may be that as well. Can you see if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients?

Thanks you so much for your warm welcome Ladies. It makes my night (it's about 10 pm here).

I also think I'm reacting to a component of the product but I just blame myself for not respecting indications. I almost forgot that I mixed it with my DC, did'nt intend to stay that long. As I'm reacting to something in, I'm just assuming that it would have not gone so far if I just had it for the recommanded 10mn on my scalp.

....on my way to investigate and detect the "bad" element
