Does Anyone Wet the Brush Before Using?

And is this good or bad? My mom has always wet the brush before she used it on my or her hair when combing into a ponytail. I now do the same thing and since I bun daily, I do this daily. I use an 100% boar bristle brush. Do you think wetting the brush causes more or less hair to come out while brushing? I have nothing to compare it to because I've always done this.

I do if I'm on day two of bunning my natural hair.My mother always did this when she re-did my ponytails so I've always done it.I'm not sure if less hair comes out, though.

I remember the old wet brush water and grease from back in the day. also when hard sculptured styles were in I'd see my hairstylist dip the brush in water and then brown gel before styling....:look:...:lachen: that was a bit much. I'll sometimes spay a light mist of leave in or slick on some Mango Butter before brushing but I never use water...cuz when it dries it's just a frizzy mess for me.

So I am not alone .. that's good. I just wonder if it's better or worse for the hair. Don't worry I don't use the dreaded grease. Just my normal Salerm or NTM + castor oil. But I do still wet the brush ...

This sounds so old school, so to speak. My mother used to do this when I was little.

I don't think it's bad. I still do this sometimes where my parts are and on the edges. I will wet the brush and then use a cream on my hair afterwards.

I wet the brush also. I find that wetting the brush first is less harsh on my hair. Also applying products directly to my dry hair doesn't work well, so going over it with a wet brush first works better.

I wet my brush too, with warm water. My Grandma and Mom would do this for my hair back in the day, and it helps me slick all this new growth down into a bun.
